Total meltdown of Greens and Te Pati Mฤori make it impossible for the Left to win.

The leadership challenge to Luxon is over.

Greens take a hit because they have had little media oxygen.

Maori Party at 1% is thanks to Doc, Mariameno and Doc.

After 2 years of hard right Government, the Left still hasn’t connected to voters in a meaningful way.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, soย if you value having an independent voice โ€“ please donate here.

  1. Kiwi’s love the established neoliberal orthodoxy. 69% back the two main neoliberal gatekeepers and add ACT and NZF and its even higher.

Maybe Luxon will have the last laugh when he is reelected in a years time and will use the mandate to finally finish the job Ruth started in 1991 but got interrupted.

I have always believed New Zealanders are economic and social masochists.

The reality is clear. There will be no revolution and no return ever to our egalitarian past while there is no effective opposition offering an alternative.

Luxon Willis and Seymour haven’t even begun with finishing the neoliberal revoloution.

  2. It is one poll and perhaps the coalition are having a Christmas poll bump (a real pattern observed in many countries).

Also, if the pessimists are right about the economy, I expect polling will continue to trend toward the current government being single term.

  3. The Greens haven’t dropped from 11% to 7% because they had no ‘media oxygen’, but because they increasingly lack a clear universalist message that distinguishes them from National-lite Labour.
For weeks we have had all manner of people talking up KiwiSaver, which is good only for those able to save.
Why haven’t the Greens been clearly and loudly defending NZ Superannuation, the retirement scheme for everyone, and the legacy of the last defender of universalism, Robert Muldoon?

  4. The young voters are leaving in droves ,they are the ones that can change NZ but they are voting with their feet .The 40 – 60 year olds are the ones that will keep this shit hate filled government in power .They think they are sorted but are in for a shock as the equity in their over priced houses drops as the economy tanks because the next wave of buyers has left to buy else where .We are still an economy that is based on buying and selling houses .I have noticed a lot of the squashed ,sorted ,middle are trying to sell and many are taking a massive hit on what they paid when they went crazy last time interest rates were stupidly low .Now they are wanting to buy the 2 million dollar place to keep up with the new wave of off shore buyers who are buying residency for 5 million and paying way too much for a house to get it .

  5. The answer for the left is UNIVERSAL FREE DENTAL CARE. Any influential lefties listening? UNIVERSAL FREE DENTAL CARE. The incremental stuff isn’t working. A dodgy CGT isn’t enough. Free dental care for the underv30s? Getting warmer but yuu need somethind that makes a MEANINGFUL difference to MOST peoples lives. Let me say it again UNIVERSAL FREE DENTAL CARE.

  6. “Let me say it again UNIVERSAL FREE DENTAL CARE”

Yeah, but we don’t have enough dentists. It will take years to train sufficient, there is only a single dental school in the country. And kids are being encouraged away from science and maths
