‘A bit tired, a bit ratty’: Heated exchange between Willis and Labour MPs at Parliament
Finance Minister Nicola Willis has labelled the conduct of Labour MPs “unbecoming” after a fiery Scrutiny Week appearance which saw accusations of name-calling and conspiracy-thinking.
Nothing is more condescending to women than other women, here’s Tova’s take on scrutiny of the Finance Minister…
Labour finance MPs risk looking more crack-pot than crack-team
Unrepentant, Labour’s finance team should at least consider being embarrassed by their boorish heckling of the Finance Minister.
…’Sisters are doing it for themselves’ was a 1985 feminist anthem sung by Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin.
The new version could be ‘sisters are doing it to themselves’.
I don’t give a shit what Tova thinks about how women questioned Nicola Willis, and think describing it as ‘ratty’ by RNZ seems childish as well.
Nicola Willis has overseen one of the worst self mutilation of our economy that this country has seen!
Put aside the bullshit cheerleaders for capitalism who populate our media with optimistic fairy tales aimed at boosting the animal spirits of the free market…
Pop the bubbly, the economic recovery is here (finally) – Liam Dann
…and look at how bad the economy really is…
RBNZ says job-finding rate is worst in 30 years but businesses are hesitant to fire staff
…we have the worst economic growth since Ruth Richardson!

…Bernard Hickey points out new funding is just personal loans…

…look at how Business Credit demands are still at 2023 levels…

…because of liquidations…

…despite all the Free Market Capitalism Cheerleaders crying the recession is over and green shoots are here to stay, the economy is very fucked, and you can see that in retail spending…
Black Friday spending down in 2025 in blow to retail recovery
…this is all on Nicola Willis and her policies and Tova wants to waste time criticising Labour Women for how they asked questions???
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

Bear in mind …there’s room for dancing upstairs with Willis…
Combine that with a Trumpesque like ignorant/arrogant/hubristic naivety disorder… born out of a priviliged upbringing and a won’t be told bully big sister knows best attitude and you have a recipe for disaster….
Unfortunately for N.Z. , this most unsuitable, unqualified, poor excuse as a Finance Minister, is backed by an equally hubristic, naive, god- bothering anti-abortionist Prime Minister.
What’s the saying…birds of a feather flock together..
Tova O’brien is yet another lightweight trying to make a comeback and a name for herself as an ‘edgy’ political journalist…
Unfortunately there seems to be an abundance of this personality type in this space.
Maybe she’s seen one to many Mean Girls movies whilst on leave and thought she’d ‘give it a go’!
Tova who? she is an idiot as is our incompetent finance Minister who is the one that is ratty and catty and isn’t the whole point of scrutiny week to be scrutinised. The problem with this COC government is they don’t like being challenged or questioned and they continue to blame others and make lame excuses for their own inadequacies. Nicola is one of the worst she has little tantrums and starts getting personal instead of answering the questions and Stanford scowls.
I didn’t read the Tova article as the headline told us what she thought. Seems like it’s free speech if the COC have an opinion but any examination of their opinion is not allowed.
The economy already showing many signs of recovery which will accelerate next year, election year.
Yes there are media fabricated signs of a faint heartbeat but its just a buggered pace maker spinning out
In other words, bullshit Bob.
Can you flesh out what you mean by the word “many”…
However…having said that…i do see that there has been a significant upswing in the ram raid industry and Meth sales …so you may have a point!
Where Bob
Excellent article. 2026 will be the year the economic cake comes out of the oven and it is not going to a lot of fun.
Tova is ratty and Nicola is both ratty and catty
Tova is redundant and makes up shit about leadership takeovers or Winston joining Labour .If she came out from her paywall she may be relevant and understand that most kiwis dont want to hear made up bull shit
Catty and Waspish.
She tries the type of put down some males try, thinking that because she’s a woman, it’s ok.
If she doesn’t want to be confronted by very annoyed people, she knows what to do.
There are 2 options. Either fix the economy as she guaranteed she would, she knows best after all, or resign.
I hope this new Reserve Bank Governor isn’t intimidated by Willis.
Willis is the proverbial lipstick on a pig.
How vulgar a journalist can you get to join in with the name calling and pettiness of the personal politics of this government?
Tova proves once again, why people distrust the media. What the bet – no self reflection on Tova ‘s part, as to why people have lost trust either. Unable to understand she and others like her are actually a major part of the problem when they write shit like this.
I’d take the reserve banks forecast over Tovas opinion . Reserve bank say 2nd worse growth in past 40 years, that is evidence there is no signs of an improving economy no matter how hard the rightards try to spin it.
Tova actually is a bit ratty, sharp teeth and all.
The Notafact phalanx of pulchritude and pomposity
Funny how these remarks emulate, almost to the words used, the hatred shown by “the man on the Clapham Omnibus” towards the female MPs who fell from grace.
Having said that it is a pity that right wing Tova has reached almost cult status, helped along by Jacinda’s “Tova next” at daily press briefings.
I agree, who gives a brass razoo what Tova has to say. When she returns to being a ‘real journalist’, who reports in an unbiased, fair manner, we will read her ‘blab’ again. So if Willis considers some Labour MPs’ conduct is “unbecoming” then how come she hasn’t twigged as to why they are so sick of her lack of financial acumen and are “ratty” with her for destroying NZ’s economy? Willis needs to suck it up. She is the author of her own demise, sanctioned by the most inept, weakest, dishonest PM NZ has ever had! Why is she feigning such surprise? Is she truly that dim-witted?

Ratty was a good fellow and a fine boatman – Tova is more like Toad – unreliable and subject to strange enthusiasms.
I yearn for some light moments in this place of dead hopes as we look at what the Natafacts are doing to the NZ spirit and economy and national wealth. So picked up some froth from commercial performances of Wind in the Willows.
Toad: [singing] Oh, the clever men at Oxford/ knows all there is to be knowed/
but nobody knows as half as much as clever old Mr. Toad! The world’s held greatest heroes/ as history books have showed/ but never a name, went down to fame/ compared to that of Toad! Oh, the army all saluted/ as he marched along the road…
The Sun: …Was it the king or the president?…
Toad: …No, it was Mr. Toad!
You’all can be the agents who pick the star to be Mr Toad and those for minor parts.
And a light-hearted version of our parliamentary question and answer sessions or something:
The Judge: Before I pass sentence, will the jury care to find him guilty?
Rat: Wait. One of those wabbits is a weasel.
Chief Weasel: No I’m not. I’m a rabbit!
The Judge: [to the jury] Is he a rabbit?
Chief Weasel: [whispers] Say I’m a rabbit.
[Rabbits all nod, say “Rabbit” and stroke their long ears]
Rat: That weasel is never a wabbit!
The Judge: Would the prosecution like add something?
The Prosecution Counsel: No, Your Honour. But I would like to wag my finger at the accused a few times.
The Judge: Go ahead.
[Prosecution walks over importantly and tut-tuts Toad]
[How newbie pollies learn to roll with the punches after a long enough spell.]

Who has the highest points to be “witchy poo” of the year there’s not really much in it is there for ratty and batty
The Entire Coalition is Riddled with Incompetence. Willis is one excellent example of Incompetence. Seymour is another one and lets not forget the former bank teller now Minister of Health.
I have said this elsewhere but it does across clearly that the mainstream NZ media is so deep into the NZ National Party pocket perhaps financially to no longer see daylight. That includes those so-called ‘journalists’ in the tabloid NZ herald rag and Stuff. Add the so-called DJs on the radio to the mixture and it seems amazing that anyone can take the media seriously.
Both this government with its Overload of Incompetent MPs and Weakling, Cowardly and Gutless leader and the Ridiculous Excuse of a mainstream NZ Media has resulted in hardly anyone can take them seriously.
