Ummmm, what?

Mike’s Minute: Britain’s COVID enquiry highlights Labour’s mistakes

The overarching view of the British Covid inquiry is that lockdown did not need to happen.

…that’s not what it says at all, it says the government acted too slowly, and that if stricter measures had been introduced earlier, then later national lockdowns might have been shorter or even avoided!

‘Chaotic and indecisive’: key findings of report on UK’s Covid response under Tories

“Too little too late” is the key finding of Heather Hallett’s second report from the Covid public inquiry, which focused on politicians and the decisions they made at important points during the pandemic.

…so Mike’s initial position is totally false, but that doesn’t stop him from ploughing on…

Their inquiry is different to our two For a start, the key players turned up. Boris Johnson and co got grilled.

Ardern and Hipkins and co never did because they refused.

It still seems to me an astonishing act of arrogance that the same people who made such profound decisions on our lives refused to participate in a public way at the official look into the way they acted.

It’s a version of moral bankruptcy.

…again, not true.

All the key players answered all questions put to them, the only difference was they returned the questions in private, not the public shaming that Mike seems to fantasise about.

The UK needed a far more aggressive investigation because they fucked it up so badly where as Jacinda produced some of the best economic and public health results on the planet.

Mike is part of the death cult capitalism clique who are forever hateful at Jacinda for putting public health above profit, for him this is the worst sin that demands never ending demonisation.

He is more a mental illness than a broadcaster at this stage.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

  1. Now it’s Hosking’s turn, again, to be a total lying AH! What a bitter and twisted old f/wit he is showing himself up to be. It is well known, both here and overseas, that NZ’s handling of Covid was exemplary and revered while Boris’ was appalling. Hosking is not only showing his complete ignorance and spiteful bias, he is sprouting garbage – yet another who puts their gob into gear before engaging their brain. How come NZ has so many of these weirdo’s and how are they in the positions they are in? I know, their enablers/followers are tarred and feathered with the same brush, hence the same abnormal sick personality disorder. Enjoy your spite-fest and narcissistic views, Hosking, they match your face.

  2. Mike has small man syndrome and in the grand scale of the world, a speck of dust. Has had multiple failures but that hasn’t stopped his ignorance or arrogance. Ignore him and he goes away.

  3. Someone showed that Hosking piece to me (I would never look at it voluntarily) and it was so obviously a flagrant and deliberate misinterpretation of what the UK enquiry says. The amount of intellectual dishonesty these market-worshipping libertarians will engage in to keep their myths alive is stunning.

  4. Sometime ago and after the 2nd COVID Inquiry here in NZ I was driving along and listening to the radio.

The station wasn’t News-Squark ZB but one of the other Music radio stations. In the mornings there are 3 DJs and there was mention about Jacinda Ardern saying that people need to Own Up for their actions etc.

One of the DJs made the snide and nasty comment that she herself didn’t own up to the 2nd Covid Inquiry.

It made me angry hearing him make such an ill-informed claim and it completely turned me off wanting to listen to That Particular Radio station. He is so obviously so anti-Jacinda that he was all too eager to judge her.

It seems to be the habit of many in the mainstream NZ media and I get the impression they have been deliberately Mis-informed by most likely those politicians in this government.

I am tempted to name the radio station concerned other than it’s popular in Auckland.

A long time ago Mike Hosking said he was going to leave NZ for Australia. I am sure there have been numerous flights to various parts of Aussie that he could have gone on!!!!

  5. If anyone knows anything about “astonishing acts of arrogance”, it’s Michael Hosking. It’s been the foundation of his career since the dawn of time. How Toni Street was able to sit next to him for so long on Breakfast without vomiting into his lap, I’ll never understand.

I genuinely believe if Mike’s preferred politicians had been in charge during the pandemic, the number of fatalities would have been far larger. Mostly due to their stubborn insistence that returns to shareholders are of more importance than the lives of ordinary human beings. They hate Jacinda because she exhibited basic humanity, and there’s nothing that repulses them more ferociously than someone who dares to prioritise people over profit.

  6. In hindsight, cus that’s a game we all enjoy, I’d say the government of the time 1) took it all too seriously 2) acted about as responsively as they should have 3) missed the signs of reality, got caught up in everything but the science, refused to adjust and retained the lockdown option for too long. Hindsight is easy. The unhinged gasping greed that got unleashed after the lockdowns must’ve killed or damaged many more people than covid ever did. The pointless noise of covid is still echoing. It happened, some people who didn’t deserve it got badly screwed. Some people who resist knowing better made everything worse. yep. That’s Life.

  7. Mike the Karen Hosking is really starting to have difficulty walking and chewing gum.

Must be nice to let your ideology do all your thinking for you…

  8. Yes, ZB is mostly listened to and supported by a lot of dopey white men who are thick and naive as planks, who hold racist and patriarchal outdated views, no wonder our countries in the doldrums with all these stupid dick heads we have.

  9. Polly Toynbee has something to say about all this in the Guardian:

“There is nothing wrong with questioning the mighty cost of the lockdowns, but we can’t let hardline libertarians rewrite Britain’s pandemic history…
That number will stay fixed for ever in public memory: 23,000 people died because Boris Johnson resisted locking the country down in time…
But this is not just about one narcissistic politician. It’s about his entire rightwing coterie of libertarians and their lethally dominant creed in the UK media.
They have a long history of rejecting things that save lives – seatbelts, speed limits, smoking restrictions, sugar taxes, vaccination, benefits, sewers, clean air, the NHS itself and, of course, stopping climate breakdown”.

Polly’s not holding back here – and she’s tight not to. Similarly, NZ’s pandemic history must not be re-written by libertarian sociopaths like Hosking.

  10. One RW follower I know told me the other night that Jacinda made so much money that she bough 2 farms and had more hoses than Luxon .What a crock of shit ,you only have to google and you will find she only ever owned 1 house no farms ,just one house .

  11. Typical response from I’m Right. The fact that Hoskings is absolutely full of shit doesn’t matter. He’s popular. The right never let the truth get in the way, is that the takeaway?

  12. Well listened too but mostly wrong in everything Hosking says, probably why you adore him but as I said he is but a speck of dust in the grand scale of things. In your little eco bubble he is may be legend( if there is enough room to fit his ego as well as yours) but no one and I mean no one cares what Hosking says because he has been wrong so many times including having to donate to the Maori party because of defamation.

  13. And yet look at the crap your lot have got us in and we don’t even have Covid, floods or earthquakes.
The sad thing to prove the Luxonistas wrong would require an ever-revolving circular argument……. one that starts with how could this government fuck things up so badly?

  14. You sound hysterical Frank, you are a reminder of the Trump types who believe in alternative facts.
You believe in the myth of let the market decide of who lives and dies. Sadly Ardern, Robertson and Orr kept you alive and the economy stimulated. One of those was a good result, hint, a stimulated economy.

  15. On the subject of myths Frank. The one that claims National are better at managing the economy has been completely blown out of the water. More debt, more unemployment in a self induced downturn with absolutely nothing to show for it. They are a disgrace
