Ngāpuhi ‘insulted’ Te Pāti Māori leadership refusing to participate in hui
Ngāpuhi’s general manager says they are insulted Te Pāti Māori leadership is refusing to participate in a hui after expelling its local MP.
A hui is taking place in Kaikohe on Sunday with Te Tai Tokerau MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi after she and Te Tai Tonga MP Tākutai Ferris were expelled from Te Pāti Māori last week.
Te Pāti Māori said they had been advised by “multiple rangatira of Te Tai Tokerau” not to attend “at this time”.
TDB understands that one reason the te Pati Māori Leadership didn’t go to the hui was the large amount of violent threats made on social media towards them.
A threat to hang Rawiri and drag Debbie behind a car were made.
The anger this schism is generating is starting to mutate into something very ugly.
The issue here is who started the leadership coup against Debbie and Rawiri?
It wasn’t JT and yet he seems to be the one getting blamed!
I’m not sure how else he was supposed to respond to an attempted leadership challenge against Debbie and Rawiri – the CIA always described Saddam Hussein as ‘a son of a bitch, but he’s our son of a bitch’ – which is how I think fondly of JT – he is one of the best political strategists in the game and has been an architect of te Pati Māori’s success.
This is about a clique who radically think Debbie and Rawiri aren’t ‘Tikanga Enough’.
The reset matters because it was Te Pati Māori’s chance to show they had evolved from being an opposition party of activists and step up to be a credible supply and confidence partner to ending this Government.
Doc, Eru and Mariameno have put their egos before the waka, the enemy isn’t JT, Kiri, Debbie or Rawiri, IT’S THE NATIONAL, ACT AND NZFIRST PARTIES!

Doc, Eru and Mariameno had their chance and they blew it. Instead choosing the kingdom behind their eyes. It’s supposed to be the Maori Paati vs the crown not Maori vs Maori choosing the leadership already has a well worn “process” which is if you lose then make way for the new. Even Nania Mahuta understood this.
Rather than pawning what’s left of their political capital on the “process” of tikanga the electorates have discovered the words behind the eyes of Doc, Eru and Mariameno <<< amateurs.
Why would the TPM leaders risk their safety attending a hui belately hosted by two renegade MP’s? Why oh why didn’t F&K choose this path in the beginning – it would have alleviated much of the ensuing angst and bitterness. Instead they “chose to grand-stand” in an aggressive and antagonistic manner – such arrogance! This could all have been avoided had they put their brains into gear before their gobs, but too late it has all been blown way out of proportion. Our huge collective AIM was to destroy this current obnoxious, bullying CoC scourge. F&K if you love your people and your country you will stop this nonsense now and either rejoin or leave TPM. But please no more cr&p. Surely you can see this?! As an aside, it’s time for social media sites and their controllers to ban threatening behaviour, prosecute, name and shame the perpetrators as they do with porn. Don’t tell me you can’t find out who they are in this day and age! Clean it up NOW and vet what comes in from overseas sites.
100% Patrice and Sam. And exactly why are the leadership getting blamed and JT vilified when the disrupters are Ferris and Kapa-kingi. If there really is rot at the top then why oh why couldn’t the renegade politicians have waited until after the election. This is so dumb and crazy. It does not help that Hone etc are supporting the renegade elements and suggesting some weeks long conciliatory tour. They should be in Parliament stopping all the terrible stuff that is happening.
