I have been fortunate enough to work around many Māori organisations in my time, and I have witnessed first hand the power and beauty of Tikanga.
At its best it is an amazing bond of solidarity that lifts a group of people to do extraordinary things, but I have also witnessed people weaponise Tikanga as a means of controlling group dynamics purely for their own purposes.
That is what is happing inside te Pati Māori right now and is the reason why this entire fiasco has blown up.
It is a pure temple tactic used by schisms to exclude, and it’s one we have seen erupt most recently inside the Greens.
When the uber woke clique inside the Greens gerrymandered the voting process to advance identity candidates to challenge the leadership, they did so because Marama wasn’t ‘woke enough’!
I know, I know, I know – how could anyone believe that?
It’s an ideological schism based on purity tests and we are seeing that inside te Pati Māori right now.
The justification Doc and Mariameno were organising a leadership coup against Rawiri and Debbie was because they weren’t tikanga enough.
John Tamihere has many sins, but sweet Jesus, he has built te Pati Māori into a true political force that could have a serious role in the next Government, the Doc/Kapa-Kingi clique are prepared to risk all that based on the leadership not being tikanga enough???
While this hard right Government prosecute an anti-Māori, anti-Treaty, anti-Worker, anti-Renter, anti-Beneficiary, anti-Disabled and anti-Environment agenda for their donors, the Doc/Kapa-Kingi clique believe they have the luxury to start a destabilisation campaign against the leadership on points if tikanga that they have decided they are the sole arbitrators of!
This isn’t just a Māori issue, to defeat this terrible hard right Government, we need Labour + Greens + Māori Party – that the Doc/Kapa-Kingi clique would put their own personal ambitions for leadership ahead of the common good is about as far from Tikanga as I can imagine!
Don Brash, David Seymour, Sean Plunkett and Mike Hosking are laughing and laughing and laughing with glee.
Putting your ego before the waka is unforgivable, te Pati Māori leadership must move ruthlessly to ensure solidarity.

I am a Pakeha and from I have noticed when it comes to political parties and their Occupants(or rather MPs) is whether they be White, Brown etc that sadly enough Ego plays a Major part in their existence.
Once the votes have been counted and in favour of whomever is the preferred MP and supposedly ‘representative of their respective electorates’ Ego is paramount. The responsibility to being an MP once the pay packet and perks of the job are within their grasp goes “Out The Door”.
Promises are made in each electorate, on the telly at Leaders Debates, at the local Village Market etc in the lead up to an election but once the votes are counted any need to keep pre-election promises is consigned to the Rubbish Bin.
Now if TPM wants to be in existence by election 2026 they need to now learn to work in a cohesive. Put aside and consign to the past animosity because all that does is create derision that this mainstream NZ Media Feeds Upon and like piranhas will attack because it Under-mines all that matters especially to Maori in 2025 and leading into 2026. It is indicates that the Opposition are in Dis-Array. That is Exactly what a Divisive government like this wants.
At the Behest of this government their puppets in the media will focus on All that is Wrong in the Opposition instead of ALL THAT IS WRONG IN THIS GOVERNMENT.
After all the minor parties in this government CONTROL 99.9999999% of the government Despite ONLY getting Single Digit numbers of votes in the last election.
And so lets us Praise Luxon for his Ineptness, Spineless, Cowardice whilst he has two ‘sidekicks’ Kicking him to the Ground and making him look Useless.
Luxon is the best thing that can happen for Labour and the Greens.
