Proposed government water reforms will cost ratepayers more – report
News this week that:
“Global ratings agency S&P Global’s latest report on the ever-changing policies on water reform said the latest water service models known as “Local Water Done Well” would not alleviate the agency’s negative outlook bias on some local governments.
S&P said the reforms promised flexibility but also created uncertainty, compared with the “Three Waters” proposal offered by the former Labour Government.
Labour embarked upon 3 Waters to lower the rates costs they knew were coming for our desperately underfunded water infrastructure alongside answering the legal requirements to recognise Māori interests in water.
Dark Ag money funnelled through right wing astroturf influencers convinced Kiwis this was an existential race war and that da Māori was stealing da water, so 3 Waters got scrapped, National’s piss poor version adopted and now you are going to pay more in rates for water.
Your rates are going up because Right Wing Astroturf Influencers used Dark Ag money to trick you into believing ‘da Maaaaaaareeees is stealing da water’.

Meanwhile Māori interests are taking the Government to court again for trashing their legal interests in fresh water, and guess what chumps, they are VERY likely to win that court case…

Yes my local councilor agrees that rates will still rise as will the water bill .The current scheme allows creative accounting by allowing councils to move water debt to another entity .My local council delayed a 11 million project till after the recent elections so they could move that cost to the new waikato water entity and make it look as though they have reduced rates .In fact all they have done is moved that cost to the water bill we will now get from the water company .I doubt council rates will decrease by the 2k they charge for 2 waters now .
Once again we have been fucked over by National who have now allowed pakeha to steal the water .
Too much scaremongering and to many dumb dumbs listened to the lairs who continue to lie and spin.
Many rate payers are struggling to pay their rates add in water costs and we are in big trouble.
