Te Pāti Māori email to members alleges Eru Kapa-Kingi threatened Parliament staff at protest

Documents released by Te Pāti Māori accuse a high-profile activist and son of one its MPs of making “threats of physical violence” and “inappropriate and vulgar” remarks to parliamentary staffers.

Some of the comments Eru Kapa-Kingi is alleged to have made include: “You aren’t s***”, “Get f***ed” and “I will f***ing knock you out”.

The allegations were contained in a series of documents Te Pāti Māori emailed its members about 10pm Monday in what the party claims is a response to calls for transparency after it faced accusations of a dictatorial leadership style by Eru Kapa-Kingi. (In separate documents sent by Te Pāti Māori to members, officials raised concerns that Mariameno Kapa-Kingi was in danger of overspending her office’s budget by up to $133,000).

When Eru decided to put his ego before the waka and air his dirty laundry in front of the Marae with his allegations against te Pati Māori leadership, there was always going to be a response.

This is Sparta.

This is the bear pit of Politics.

Eru’s criticisms against te Pāti Māori now look very hollow aft6er hearing the other side of the story and the other side of the story is overspending by his MP mother on him!

The threats of violence to one side, the issue here is Mariameno Kapa-Kingi overspending and the fact Eru was involved in that, how can he lash out at the leadership when he is deeply involved in the spending issues of his mother?

Look.

Every party has internal issues, just this year Mihi Forbes exclusively highlighted ACT Party candidate Leo Foley discussing David Seymour’s alarming warning during their interview about starting a civil war with his Treaty Principles Referendum!

That story evaporated in 24 hours yet with te Pati Māori it’s the end of the Westminster system of democracy!

Rawiri is right! Is there a double standard when it comes to Māori politics!

The yawning chasm of trust issues between the leadership and Mariameno is simply too wide to be tenable now, the leadership desperately attempted to work with her to solve her spending issues with her son, she seems to have utterly ignored them and they’ve been left with this enormous overspending issue, I don’t think it’s realistic that she stay on.

I think the chances of a by-election in Te Tai Tokerau is now on the cards and if te Pati Māori can do in there whet they did in Tamaki Makaurau, they will solidify their strength going into next years election, not weaken it!

The Māori Party reset is maybe the most important political event this year as te pati Māori makes it clear they want to work constructively with the Greens and Labour to get rid of this Government.

Look.

I don’t care about Labour’s incrementalism.

I don’t care about the Greens middle class wokeness.

And I don’t care that the Māori Party’s bloshie defiance scares the bejesus out of some white people.

I just don’t care any more.

Labour, Greens and te Pati Māori on their worst days are 10 000 times better than this hateful, spiteful, hard right Government with their anti-Māori, anti-Treaty, anti-worker, anti-beneficiary, anti-disabled, anti-environment agenda where they strangle the common good for their donors interests.

The cruelty with which National, ACT and NZF use the power of Government to punish their enemies while benefiting their donors should be a screaming scandal!

The next election will be Old Zealand vs New Zealand.

Te Pati Māori is part of New Zealand.

  1. Just scratch the surface and pretty clear what Eru Kapa-Kingi and a lot of the Maori Party really think of NZ Europeans: “f***ing white baldhead c***”.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

    • The “f***ing white baldhead c***” isn’t representative of all pakeha kiwis, so your comment is a logical fallacy.

        • Just because you Mr Brown use sweet words does not logically follow that those words smell sweet or is not intended to be fucken annoying.

With such contempt for The Maori Party they must select MPs from what’s on offer and that contempt is held by a majority of Maori themselves it’s no wonder we are seeing radicals bubble up and bubble up it will again and again.

          Get used to it.

  2. Pretty clear if Eru’s racist comments were known to the Maori Party over a year ago and they are only airing them now it is because of the issues they now have with him rather than any issues with his behaviour / views at the time.

    • ACT right up there in advocating violence to change society Trevor as per Seymour’s views and the Poll released yesterday.
Are they any better than the few radical Maori. I suggest they are worse because they are underground silently poisoning minds and probably arming themselves with weapons. Ready for the day.

  3. agent provocateur
a person who induces others to be violent or commit an illegal act in order to incriminate them or discredit a cause.
“you people will start fighting amongst yourselves, not realizing that some agent provocateur is behind this”
Therefore my question is how much was/is he being paid?
” Some of the comments Eru Kapa-Kingi is alleged to have made include: “You aren’t s***”, “Get f***ed” and “I will f***ing knock you out”.
Yeah, that’ll work. That, right there, is elegance and refinement. Not. Another narcissistic bully is all we need.

    • He was also purported to have said to a security guard at parliament gates “don’t you know who I am, don’t you know who my family is” in regard to not taking out his security pass.
Now where have I heard that before, oh yes right, Gerry Brownlee rushing through an airport and a drunk National ex MP Aaron “Don’t you know who I am” Gilmore. To use Trevor’s analogy the thought of any of these National members representing this country is a worry .They are not a credible power

  4. I had this inkling feeling drama queen Eru Kapa Kingi was fake news. Going straight to the MS media that thrive on drama especially Maori issues he effectively opened “TPM & Toi Tu Tiriti” to dilemma something he was personally involved

  5. It is the “crazy bal’heads” that will be most exercised about TPM’s situation, the ones that voted against Māori Wards and deny the post colonial fallout we all live with.

Mariameno, if the reports are true needs to go and bring on a by election.

  6. My initial thought as I started reading your article to explain the news coverage was that people believe what they want to believe and no amount of evidence will change their mind. The first few comments from JB & T just reinforce this view. While I don’t deny that there are radical and racist Maori you can’t convince me that there are many decent people in the current government although their selfishness is shared by most of the media and self righteous community so their faults get ignored. We have Luxon, Seymour & Peters claiming to represent our country which is a disgrace when the kindest thing you could say about them is that they are a slow moving train crash.

  7. Would NZ be in a deep deep recession and losing 200 whanau members a day to oz if it had retained a government at the last election that understood austerity doesn’t work. Did austerity work for Trusk? Has it worked for Milei? It hasn’t worked for coc. TPM may be as rascist as Act but at least they don’t believe in austerity economic mismanagement.

    • If we had returned a government that was spending borrowed money on an over blown public service and pie in the sky vanity projects inflation would still be through the roof and the country facing ruin. This government has carried out a rest not austerity and the uptick is starting to happen.

      • You have returned that government Trevor you idiot. And the economy continues to tank because of it. The next election will take care of them as they will be ousted and known as the worst Government in history with their failed austerity program. The list of their failures are too many.
Well said Joseph you are spot on.

      • “pie in the sky vanity projects”

You mean the cancelled engineering and construction pipeline of the peoples money being spent on national assets, state houses, transport and water infrastructure, good jobs and national wealth.

Instead we now have a government that has borrowed to give landlords tax breaks and accomodation supplements. Economic mismanagement and a recession worse than the gfc.

      • Do not fear for my well-being I have faced far angrier and obnoxious people than the left leaning supporters on this site. G

        • Not worried about you either Trevor, as your comments are ludicrous.
Your attack on public servants an example best summarised by whats happening in America and Jack Smiths response…

“I think the attacks on public servants, particularly nonpartisan public servants — I think it has a cost for our country that is incalculable, and I think that we — it’s hard to communicate to folks how much that is going to cost us,”

Where the right see savings the reality is it will cost us all dearly.

  8. Why a by-election? The Maori Party cannot kick her out of Parliament, only her Electorate can.

If Mariameno Kapa-Kingi has the courage (or should that be gall) she could leave the Maori Party and sit in Parliament as an Independent or even start a new party. If it is the latter then the question becomes whether the activists like Ferris, Maipi-Clark and the new MP would leave the Maori Party and join her leaving the two leaders on their own.

Interesting times for the Maori Party.

    • if an electorate MP leaves the party they represented in the general election there is a bi-election. This happened with hone, hell even Winston when he left national and during the previous govt when labour Hamilton mp jumped ship.

If a list MP leaves their party, the party invites the waka jumping bill (unless it’s the greens who will then spend six months in an internal civil war, spending valuable party funds taking itself to court instead of just using the waka jumping bill)

If you leave your party , you need a new mandate from your electorate.

    • Exactly – TPM can’t kick her out. The chances of a by-election in Te Tai Tokerau are not on the cards. She doesn’t have to take any notice of what others think she should do…

  9. I think TPM are also worried about retaining Te Tai Tokerau next election. Mariameno only won over Kelvin Davis by around 500 votes. I don’t think it’s a good time for a by-election. The North is not urban like Tamaki Makaurau. A by-election would mean Mariameno has resigned or been sacked, which was not the circumstances of the TM by-election. It would only deepen the rift imho. Also don’t write off people like Labour’s Willow-Jean Prime, who is very grounded in the North and has a lot of support. Shane dig baby dig would be tempted as well, and the last thing we need is NZF getting even more traction than they are in the polls atm. I just think we need to let TPM sort it through and concentrate on our job, which is to see this CoC out of power next year.

  10. Hmm yes that is interesting. It’s a big shame all this is happening and also what seems to be more corruption and graft is really at the heart of it, and as JT pointed out, this cannot stand. It’s shocking to read today that if there was an election right now CoC would get back in. Wake up stupid Labour stop pointing fingers Chippy-“that’s not how I would do it”- useless bugger and start really addressing the issues like Greens and TPM have with their policies. That fucker is going to lose again. Why is he still leader????? As Willy said TPM internal issues are not Labour’s problem. There is no government for Labour without TPM so Chippy better stop the self righteous bullshit comments and be more diplomatic. It often happens that things in families and groups -the established order, falls apart when someone dies and it seems this has happened after Tarsh, the peacemaker, passed away. TPM are struggling to deal with this right now but it seems that is exactly what they are doing, dealing with it. All the best to them. New Zealand needs them.

  11. She (Kapa Kingi) can sit as an independent, but I believe she will be voted out at the next election because the majority of us Māori voters on the Māori roll want Kotahitanga. We also want Labour, Greens and TPM to work together for Māori, our environment and for the betterment of all New Zealanders, not just the rich and sorted ones.

  12. I am a Pakeha and a Voter.

I am wondering as to why this Sudden and Ongoing Interest by the mainstream NZ media still continues to this day???!!!

Is it because Luxon especially is now Floundering in the Polls and making National look All The More Stupid and so their need to Grasp for Straws aka Scare-mongering and wanting to Cast Doubt of TPM???!! And so an Orchestrated Litany of Bullshit and Lies to Distract what Luxon etc are doing to this country????!!

Surely a credible media with no links to Biased towards National would concentrate on What This Government is Doing That is So Wrong instead of resorting to diversion and divisionary tactics????!!!! Out of all this I am so fed up with the mainstream NZ media. Their Leanings towards National shows them up on a daily basis as to what is Wrong with both the Government and the Media. They are both Ideal Bed Partners that No-one can ever Trust or Believe.

I have no faith nor trust in this government let alone the media.

One time and some decades ago NZ had a credit-worthy media. Sadly enough that is now in the past. We now have a media that bends over, spreads its buttocks and allows National especially to Do What It Wants to do. Though this may sound crude but that is how much the media here in NZ has demeaned itself to.

And so publicity is given to the son of an MP in the Opposition but very little publicity is given to the antics of this CoC. That action seems rather misplaced and deliberately so.

Surely more attention should be given about those National MPs that have multiple properties but FAILED to declare them???!! Surely Publicity should be given to the probably ongoing problem of Inadequate School Lunches from Compass???!!! Surely alot of attention needs to be given matters that concern ALL NZers??????!!!!

But looking at our mainstream NZ media I somehow get the feeling that like Luxon they Don’t Have a Spine as over decades of a National Party control the very thing that should matter for people has been ripped Out of Them.

One time in the late 70s I wanted to be a Journalist. But my now late mother told me because I have a speech impediment that remains with me to this day I would be No Good at the job. And yet in the 90s there was a weather presenter on TVNZ who had the same speech impediment as I did. I pointed that out to my mother and she didn’t have a response.

If the journalists today “Grew a Spine or a Pair” then it’s time they started speaking on Behalf of NZers and NOT on Behalf of the NZ National Party or this current Circus ACT of a government.
