National – 31.5
Labour – 28.5
Green – 13.5
ACT – 9
NZF – 8
MP – 5.5
A Hung Parliament.
This is why it is so essential that the Left use MMP strategically to ensure we win.
Chloe has stated her desire to lead the largest progressive movement to take power and do something meaningful with it.
To date the Greens have been perpetually played like chumps.
Labour didn’t need them in 2020, were played by them in 2017 and get played again by Helen Clark.
The Greens always get used for the numbers to get to 51% but rarely ever get any of the power with that.
The country needs an opposition who can fight as hard at negotiation time as you are having to fight just to get through the week.
There is a MMP strategy that Chloe should take a long hard look at – the Kākāriki Alliance.
Kākāriki Alliance
If Labour are forced to rule the Māori Party out of Cabinet because of Doc’s sectarianism, then there is a means to still use MMP to kick this Government out.
If Hone Harawira called for a Māori Party and Green Party hui at Waitangi 1st February next year to discuss a Political Alliance between te Parti Māori and the Greens, they could agree on a unified strategy in the Māori electorates.
Candidate vote Māori Party in the Māori electorates and Party vote Green in the Māori Electorates.
The wasted Māori Party vote gets picked up by the Greens, a Māori Party clean sweep of the electorates produces an overhang, but the most important part of the alliance would be the agreement of a united negotiating front with Labour.
This means even if Labour rule out the Māori Party in Cabinet, they still have to negotiate with them as a collective of the Greens which ensures NZF can’t play the Greens like they do every election.
Chance of The Kākāriki Alliance happening?
Chloe needs a strategy that is radical and can propel the Greens into a negotiating force. Cutting a deal with the Māori Party over the Māori Electorates would pick up wasted Māori Party vote while lifting the overhang and brings the negotiating muscle of John Tamihere.
For the Greens it is a radical strategy that is win win win.
The Greens won’t be as burnt by the association with Doc as Labour would.
This allows Labour to hold the centre, Greens and te Parti Māori work together to create a Government with a truly progressive economic transformation policy with Māori Party Ministers outside of Cabinet.
This anti-Treaty, anti-Māori, anti-worker, anti-renter, anti-disabled, anti-beneficiary, anti-environment Government must be stopped.
They are implementing voter suppression powers around special votes and are pushing an agenda that is ripping our communities to pieces.
Now is the time for radical strategies and alliances to beat the Right.
There are means and ways to use MMP that will win, we need leaders with the vision to do that.
Let’s not forget how gender based this has now become…
A majority of 58% of men favour the National/ ACT/ NZ First coalition government compared to 37.5% supporting the opposition Labour/ Greens/ Maori Party.
A large majority of men aged over 50 support the National/ ACT/ NZ First governing coalition (64%) compared to only 33% supporting the opposition Labour/ Greens/ Māori Party. Support for National (43%) is higher among this demographic than any other gender and age group analysed.
Younger men aged 18-49 favour the National-led governing coalition on 50.5% compared to 43.5% that support the Labour-led Parliamentary Opposition. Support for ACT (17.5%) is higher among this demographic than any other gender and age group analysed.
…thanks to our middle class woke activists and their toxic masculinity cancel culture accusations, we have driven young men into the arms of the reactionary right and if we want to beat this hateful Government, we need to reach out to men and tell them there is a place for them on the Left.
Comrades.
I know that many of you are working your fingers to the bone and many of you feel that you are going backwards.
I know crime is real and the fear of it in some neighborhoods as the cost of living crisis makes desperate people more dangerous opens us to tough of crime rhetoric and I know that many feel alienated by liberal concepts of identity that seem imposing or scary.
But my dear fellow comrades.
Your enemy is not a Māori wanting the Treaty honoured, it’s not a kid transitioning, it’s not the exploited migrant worker and it’s not the environmentalist or the feminist.
Your enemy is who your enemy has always been – the greedy venal banks, the big polluters who lie about their pollution, the billionaire class with their alt-right culture war bullshit!
Your enemy is the social media hate algorithms that pit us against each other, your enemy is the politician that strangles the common good for their donors interests – your enemy is who it has always been, the 1% richest plus their 9% enablers – and the millisecond the 90% rest of us realise that – their rule of cruelty ends at the ballot box.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

Great plan now the next plan is to get Maori to vote because from my experience (generalizing) a lot don’t, nor do they believe they have skin in the game but will moan and groan it’s sad and frustrating
Martyn, I still find it hard to believe these ‘same old-same old’ Morgan polls, are anything but BS and brain-washing – but whose brain? Are they appeasing their “regulars” into believing all will be well? Of course they should serve as a wake-up shout to the Left to get on with implementing serious, meaningful and tough policies to bring NZ back from the brink of collapse. I just find it difficult to comprehend that there are still so many self-entitled, selfish, cruel and uncaring voters supporting this current madness and corruption. Time for the Left to get real, offer solutions and be prepared! However they must also regularly encourage their voters to check they are STILL ON THE ROLL RIGHT UP UNTIL VOTING DAY. I have no faith in the honesty of this current unscrupulous, bumbling bunch.
I reckon the left has probably lost men for the next couple of generations to be honest.
luckily men don’t usually vote
Not going to happen as Labour still operate as if we are in a FPP system. They have no policy’s that will make fundamental change for the working poor. High power charges should see the industry being nationalized with a view to making power cheaper for every one. Imagine profits being used to support all NZers and not go to the corporate dogs and their associated flees.
Is Labour electable with the Greens and Te Pati Māori? I hope so as Labour won’t change until it is forced too if it wants to govern.
Be prepared to be underwhelmed when the Chip announces their policies after Xmas.
How is the coalition government holding up so well in the polls? I don’t get it? The economy has contracted for 2 years and there is still no sign of recovery. The total polling numbers have not changed for months.
Might have touched a nerve here Martyn.
Voters will be too frightened of another 3 years of the current hopeless coalition
Yep, that’s what usually happens Clive. Incumbent governments are voted out and the new lot win by default. But who knows? The headwinds could abate, the books turned around and Luxton’s arse could be saved – enough to keep all the swing voters on the ship.
It was nice to see Chloe appearing with Gary Stephenson, who is an economist that notices the housing crisis, reads Picketty, and may be capable of formulating policies to let us escape neoliberal slavery – for slaves are all we are to the Coalition.
But the self-styled ‘Left’ need to be Left to bring men back.
And don’t be blaming social media algorithms – it’s a self-serving argument that excuses failure. ‘These stupid gullible men’, the argument runs, ‘just need to get in line for further doses of unrelenting failure and toxic misandry.’ Actually, we need nothing of the sort. We need economic policy that serves all of our society. We need urgent reforms to claw back public wealth from the corrupt scumbags that continue to fuck over our country as we speak, and a shit-ton less performative assholes trying to insert their special interests into public policies in which they don’t belong.
Mmm … the same Gary Stevenson that wrote The Trading Game? The same Gary Stevenson who became very, very rich in the wake of the 2008 recession by betting on a large increase in economic inequality? The same Gary Stevenson who has since built an entire public persona on his origin story as the man who beat capitalism at its own game?
I wouldn’t trust the guy. But perhaps his lived experience does provide some valuable insight and does now qualify him to educate folk around wealth inequality, a kind of Robin Hood of the new millennium fighting against the Sheriff of Nottingham.
Yes. I know of young men who support the left, white, heterosexual males. They have had good educations and can see the holes in the left’s position but know that the right is definitely not the place for them.
The left might be weak-kneed and disappointing with the leadership it has at present, but the right is a dangerous place full of people they would rather not know.
I suppose these young men are secure in knowing what they want for themselves and their families, their communities and their country. They see the examples of disaster in play in places like the US and want no part of that. They would like to see a Bernie Sanders type emerge on the left. Someone who may have got their hands dirty in some job, at some stage in their lives, like them.
p.s. Young men who have embraced the right in the US are finding that women are deserting in droves. Women no longer want them with their stupid hats, guns and selfish, immature attitudes. The thing is that these young women are educated and independent. They don’t need just any man. If those men thought the left had rejected them, they are now finding that half the population is rejecting them. They have nothing that young women want.
