National is tinkering around the edges of supermarkets with yet another policy announcement that wonโt do anything to immediately ease the cost of living.
โNicola Willis has had almost two years, yet she is still dithering over options to improve competition in the grocery sector. A fast-track regime for supermarkets makes sense, but it wonโt make any immediate difference for New Zealanders who will keep paying high prices at the checkout today,โ Labour finance spokesperson Barbara Edmonds said.
โSoundbites donโt put food on the table, shoes on feet or petrol in cars. New Zealanders are tired of hearing the same old phrase from the Government โ that things are tough โ with little action to help.
โKiwis still wonโt see their grocery bills coming down for years under National. Nicola Willis still doesnโt have a timeline for when a new player could come into the market.
โLabour was serious about more competition in the grocery sector and laid the groundwork for this.
โNational talked a big game on cost of living and havenโt delivered. They have no idea what most people and small businesses are really going through and no plan to turn things around,โ Barbara Edmonds said.

Just like Nationals promise of lower power costs through more competition promised by Max Bradford, it will never happen. In the meantime, retrospective laws and clawing back of banks capital requirements Nicoliar is helping the Aussie banks who are creaming it to make more money. At the same time health and safety procedures are being eroded with less funding for WorkSafe all to save businesses costs equals more kiwis killed on the job. Seems we haven’t learnt form the Pike River Mine disaster.
