Data released today by Stats NZ shows food prices have shot up five percent, as the cost of living keeps getting worse under National.

“Christopher Luxon promised to make the cost of living better, instead he’s making it worse,” Labour finance and economy spokesperson Barbara Edmonds said.

“Food prices are up five percent under National. Everyday necessities like milk and butter are up 16 and 42 percent respectively. Fruit and vegetables are up more than 7 percent, with lettuce and cabbage up 38 and 61 percent respectively. Beef is up nearly 25 percent.

“National has found a way to help property speculators and tobacco companies, but is failing to bring down costs for everyday New Zealanders.

“Luxon is so out of touch he has no idea what life is like for most New Zealanders. New Zealand cannot afford another three years of National.

“Labour’s priorities are clear: jobs, health, homes, and real action on the cost of living,” Barbara Edmonds said.
