The Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa says New Zealand’s signature on a joint statement of 25 countries on Gaza is meaningless without concrete action.
PSNA Co-Chair John Minto says Peters’ statements in the media this morning, fall well short of the condemnation in the joint statement, and are what Minto calls the usual ducking the issue of Israeli culpability.
“Peters still can’t bring himself to criticise Israel in Gaza – even after 21 months of mass killing and mass starvation of Palestinians. He condemns a suffering situation, but carefully avoids stating who it causing it.”
Minto says there is an extensive list of actions the government must take if it’s serious.
“I’m sure the Israeli ambassador in Wellington is happily reporting to his ministry in Tel Aviv that the New Zealand government is still tolerating mass starvation, bombing civilians and ethnic cleansing.” Minto says.
“If the New Zealand government was serious, it would implement this list”:
- Back the call from UN Special Rapporteur for the OPT, Francesca Albanese for military protection for aid convoys to enter Gaza.
- Close the Israeli embassy in Wellington
- End trade and investment ties with Israel
- Deny entry visas for all Israeli Defence Forces personnel
- Introduce legislation to sanction Israel the same as the Russia Sanctions Act
- Cease approval for Rakon to export crystal oscillators which may be used by the Israeli military for targeting Gaza and other Israeli assault zones
- Ban all Rocket Lab launches of satellites used for Israeli reconnaissance over Gaza
- Suspend all bilateral agreements with Israel; movie co-production, overflight agreement and technological cooperation
- Stop remittances going to Israel, such as funds for the racist Jewish National Fund
- Cut scientific, academic, sport and cultural ties with the State of Israel
- Sell all New Zealand’s Superfund investments in Israeli companies
- Vote to suspend Israeli membership of the United Nations for not withdrawing from all the Occupied Palestinian Territory
- Cease approving Israeli munitions transporter ZIM Shipping using our ports
- Join the case against Israeli genocide in the International Court of Justice
- Sign onto the Hague Group of countries working to ensure Israel complies with International Law https://thehaguegroup.org/home/

The Luxon regime is more concerned with getting Muslim traitors to break bread with genocide supporter Juliet Moses, despite near unanimous Muslim opposition to any such collaboration with this disgusting Gaza Holocaust supporter and her fellow zionist genocide denialist Deborah Hart.

Once again Peters and his mates are just full of shit .25 countries signed this bull shit and took no action .They could have closed all 25 embassies yesterday and implemented massive sanctions against Israel .But no ,they just put out a meaningless bull shit statement which said we are not too keen on what you are doing but carry on and finish te job quickly before the hobbits wake up and sack us all .
And recognise a Palestinian state
The government won’t do even one of these 15 things listed here by John Minto.. Because they are not bound by law to do so. They are genocide deniers.
And they are genocide deniers for a reason, only under the Genocide Convention is the government legally mandated to act to prevent and punish it.
The Genocide Convention mandates that signatory countries must act to prevent and punish the crime of genocide. No ifs, no buts, no maybes.
New Zealand became a signatory to the United Nations convention on the prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide, the Genocide Convention, in 1948, but did not ratify the Genocide Convention into New Zealand law until 1978 and then, only after the UN announced that there would be a cut off date for nations to ratify the treaty, or make special application to the UN.
Why the hesitation?
By ratifying the genocide convention in 1978, New Zealand became legally bound by international, and New Zealand law to act to prevent and punish the crime of genocide. No ifs, no buts, no maybes.
But you will never hear the New Zealand government or the New Zealand opposition Labour party officially admit that a genocide is being committed in Gaza.
They will on occasion admit that Israel is committing terrible atrocities against the civilian population of Gaza, they will even, in an occasional sound bite for radio and TV, admit that Israel is committing war crimes in Gaza, they will even say that crimes against humanity are being committed by Israel in Gaza, but what they will never admit to, is that Israel is committng genocide in Gaza, because if the government and oppostion Labour Party admitted that Israel was committing genocidt, they are legally bound to take all reasonable measures to prevent it.
The Genocide Convention is unique in that none of the other categories of criminal acts and war crimes that can be committed by states and nations, are other nations legally bound by a UN convention to prevent and punish.
As long as our political leaders don’t admit that genocide is being committed in Gaza they can get away with doing nothing to prevent it.

It’s genocide
For decades Amnesty International has documented human rights abuses in both the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel. We have called for an end to Israel’s illegal occupation and annexation of Palestinian territory. In 2022 we released a landmark report that found Israel is committing the crime of apartheid. In January 2024 we warned of the risk of genocide.
Now, after an in-depth investigation, has found sufficient basis to conclude that Israel has committed, and is continuing to commit, genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip.
Take Action:
Join us in calling on the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to:
Publicly recognise that Israeli authorities are committing the crime of genocide
Ban imports from illegal settlements as well as investment in companies connected to maintaining the occupation
Help Palestinian people seeking refuge to come to Aotearoa New Zealand and receive support
We recognise other organisations and people have been calling it genocide for some time now. What has taken time in producing this report is the collation of stories and evidence and compiling detailed forensic documentation into what is happening. Documenting evidence, especially in places where horrific violence and destruction is occurring, is difficult and takes time.
By releasing this report, we wish to support these wider ongoing efforts to end the horrendous human rights atrocities.
Genocide is “the commission of one or more acts prohibited by the Genocide Convention, committed with the specific intent to destroy a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, in whole or in part.”
Over a period of nine months, Amnesty International interviewed hundreds of people, analysed photos and video of the devastation and the remains of weaponry, corroborated it with satellite photography, and reviewed a huge range of datasets, reports and statements by UN agencies, humanitarian organisations, human rights groups and senior Israeli Government and military officials.
Now it’s time for all of us to show that we value a world where everyone can live with dignity.
Call on Christopher Luxon and Winston Peters to take action.
Your voice can help ensure that Aotearoa New Zealand publicly recognises that Israel is committing genocide and commits to sustained action to help end it.
Good stuff, but we can’t afford to upset the USA, this is what all this boils down to. Aim for small victories, goals that won’t or shouldn’t upset the USA is the best we can hope for – “Help Palestinian people seeking refuge to come to Aotearoa New Zealand and receive support” for example. The UN and Genocide Convention, this seems to only work when the US wants it to work.
If we want the government to do something about the genocide in Gaza, we need to break it down into smaller achievable tasks.
Of the parliamentary parties only the Green Party and the Maori Party call Israel’s actions in Gaza genocide.
To get the government to change their position, we first have to get the biggest opposition party in parliament, the Labour party, to change their position.
Why is this important?
In Ireland the biggest parliamentary opposition party Sinn Féin, against a reluctant governmen, tabeled a motion in the Irish parliament for the government to officially recogniset that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. When the vote was tabled many Irish government MPs made sure that they weren’t in the house for the vote, which allowed the motion to pass. These government MPs probably realised that one day everyone will want to claim that they were always against this. Hard to do if were on the record for voting to deny genocide.
Labour’s Damien O’Connor goes against party policy in calling Israel’s actions in Gaza ‘genocide’
5:33 am on 8 December 2023
……While the Greens and Te Pāti Māori have been calling it genocide for weeks, O’Connor’s colleague Phil Twyford – whose amendment calling for a two-state solution was adopted – said his comments did not reflect Labour’s position.
“There is a lot of views on that and certainly a lot of people who believe it is. But there is a big body of international law that has very strict definitions and qualifications about the use of the word genocide. That’s the reason by-and-large most governments are very cautious about using the word.”
In a statement Chris Hipkins said: “Damien O’Connor is incredibly passionate about this issue and that was evident during his contribution today. I respect the emotion and feeling he showed during the debate.
“However the Labour Party’s position remains that it is for the relevant international bodies to determine whether actions by Israel are within the constraints of international law.”….

Its moments like these we need Keys our CoC needs to get some guts and gets some nuts
One State with Christians, Jews, Moslems, Atheists and all. It was like this before the Brits and the rest of Europe felt such immense guilt about their turning their eyes away from what happened to 6m Jews, disabled, homosexuals, gypsies etc. they gave Palestine away to the Zionists to bring their people from far and wide.
Seems like a good opportunity for Chippie to stand up as leader of the opposition and offer a definitive position on this
He needs a backbone transplant first.

One day everyone will have allways been against this.
As that day rapidly approaches, 25 Western nations including NZ that have supported and backed this genocide the whole way, are now engaged in nothing more than a massive global arse covering exercise, as the world witnesses scenes reminiscent of the Holocaust.

When you see starving people turn up in what is effectively a fenced off cattle pen, dehumanizing Palestinians to the point where they’re being regarded as animals.
They’re being herded like animals into a human abattoire. For the last 6 weeks about a thousand of them have literally been slaughtered, and this is all being done in the name of humanitarianism.
So to be absolutely clear, an army that has put a fence around a people, blockaded it for 17 years, has starved people to death, builds these agricultural pens, forces these starving people to come and get food aid from them. When they get there, they’re targeted and shot, and then they’re carried off to hospitals where there are no pharmaceuticals……

What did Starmer say?
“I’ve always said we will recognise a Palestinian state as a contribution to a proper peace process, at the moment of maximum impact for the two-state solution,” Starmer said.
“With that solution now under threat, this is the moment to act.”
He added: “So today, as part of this process towards peace, I can confirm that the UK will recognise the state of Palestine by the United Nations General Assembly in September, unless the Israeli government takes substantive steps to end the appalling situation in Gaza.”
The UK government has armed and supported Israel to commit Genocide in Gaza, and even now continues to do so.
No amount of arse covering before the assembled nations represented at the UN General Assembly can hide that fact.
