Four Labour MPs suspended for breaking party discipline following a revolt over welfare cuts
Labour suspended four of its Members of Parliament in Britain for breaking party discipline following a large-scale rebellion over welfare cuts this month.
Neil Duncan-Jordan, Brian Leishman and Rachael Maskell confirmed their suspensions, arguing they were representing their constituents in opposing cuts to disability benefits.
A person familiar with the matter named Chris Hinchliff as the final MP suspended and said all four had the whip suspended for repeated breaches of party discipline.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer is trying to reassert control over the parliamentary Labour Party after rebellious MPs forced the Government into expensive reversals on cuts to disability benefits and winter fuel payments for pensioners in recent weeks.
The move by whips, who enforce party discipline, comes after 49 MPs with the ruling party voted against the Government’s welfare bill, even after ministers backed down on the main cost-saving measures to stave off a bigger revolt.

This has always been so. Even the rise of the so-called “true” socialists could never have happened if not allowed by the ruling classes. If there is a class that controls governments and dictates policy, nationalising and/or socialising an economy just concentrates the power in the ruling elite more absolutely. This is a much better approaching than leaving anything in the hands of the “ordinary” man who isn’t a member of the ruling class. This “collectivisation” is then sold to the huddled-masses as if its good for them.
It appears to be so, granted they did need to create neoliberal economic policy because their ‘rule’ had gotten a little too loose. Too much sharing of the economic pie for their liking. They have only ever tightened their noose around us since.
The illusion of democracy – the choice we get to vote upon from the politicians they get to put up for election – this illusion that is managed by their mainstream media machine – it shows no signs of weakening. Most of us still believe in it, most of us still believe in democracy, in politics, despite the chaotic, uncertain, world rising up around us today.
The ruling class know how to speak to us, know how to push our buttons, know how to nudge us into accepting their politicians, their polices, their choices, typically these days, at our very own expense, they know how to ‘guide’ us better than any working class voice has been able to do….thus far…

There are no big industry’s anymore,no big unions. When people get jobs they class themselves above Labour . They think Farage is Father Christmas just like our own David Seymour. Labour doesn’t stand a chance with right wing msm hence the last 14 years of Tory rule and how did that go. The British are wet and whiny just like New Zealanders are becoming.
As soon as they turned against Corbyn after the 2019 UK election I knew it was over. JC was it – the only adult socialist left in the room. It was obvious from day one what Starmer was about and the election campaign should have made it crystal clear.
They have not changed a single economic policy put in place by their predecessors – they are an austerity continuation government.
