Wow – this is the most racist thing Winston Peters has ever said in Parliament

Māori voters who support Winston have to take a long hard look in the mirror.

Jesus wept, Winston’s insult towards Rawiri in Parliament during the debate on the Māori Party MP punishment was the most racist thing I’ve ever heard him say in Parliament:

“The Maori Party are a bunch of extremists. The one in the cowboy hat.. The one with the scribbles on his face..’

WTF?

“The one with the scribbles on his face” that’s a direct quote, he said it and the term was so racist and offensive the Speaker forced Winston to stand and withdraw but sweet Jesus, “The one with the scribbles on his face”?

Even for cross burning, redneck, dog whistling Winston, “The one with the scribbles on his face”, is jaw dropping!

I’m not sure the conservative Māori electorate he likes to appeal to will look at those words with any pride.

“The one with the scribbles on his face”?

If any whjiote person had said something so racist, they would face an immediate demand to stand down, Winston plays his favourite game of being the Māori basher that old white Volk love and he gets away with it.

“The one with the scribbles on his face”?

Even for Winston this is a new low.

To mock his own people that way?

Wow.

Just, wow.

I thought the anti-vax, climate denial, anti-trans malaise was bad enough, but “The one with the scribbles on his face”?

Wow.

Māori voters who support Winston have to take a long hard look in the mirror.

“The one with the scribbles on his face”?

That’s on Māori who vote NZF.

  1. Stop the white pearl clutching, Māori vigorously debate issues in a way that can be confronting for pākeha. We wouldn’t say what Peters said but it’s quite different for him to say it.

    • Don’t be such an ass Ennius. We don’t want parliament to descend into what your dinner table might be like. And pakeha must control their put-downs, and shouldn’t have leeway to say ‘ Well, Winnie neighed it’. He should have more horse sense but has been regarded as a teddy bear who can get away with too many things.

      • Greywarbler, you have misunderstood. I am saying that people can mock their own culture and it isn’t racist.

        • OK Ennius but isn’t it so hard to talk about things without being misunderstood and jumped on these days? Sorry.

    • “Stop the white pearl clutching, Māori vigorously debate issues in a way that can be confronting for pākeha”.

That’s true – and in fact it’s a perfect explanation of why the Government’s over-reaction to TPM’s haka, and the excessive punishment handed out is so absurd. In excusing Winston’s insult of Waititi, you are making TPM’s argument for them. (Probably not what you intended.)

      • TPM were not vigorously debating; Packer was apparently making a gun gesture during the disruption. Willie Jackson debates like Peters.

  2. Seems he and his cohorts can get away with anything….remember ” send the Mexican home” comments..never any punishment from Gerry.

  3. The sad thing about Peters is that he has been reduced to parroting the catch phrases used by white supremacists on social media. His speech was appalling and aimed completely at reassuring his new followers that he was one of them. He got correctly called out a while ago in Parliament “what a waste of maori blood”

  4. Willy shot the whole show to bits with his speech, he is quite the orator on steroids!

  5. It was, of course, crudely offensive, but it was not racism.
Winston Peters is Maori, and he is of that generation of Maori that decided that the moko should not be socially acceptable. He can make that choice for himself. However it was a singular error of judgement for him to use such language in reference to another’s decision to wear the moko.
Peters is giving us a fine demonstration of what happens to Maori who embrace colonialism. They lose respect, dignity and mana. The very qualities which they believed would come their way as a result of working within the colonialist order.

    • Winston Peters is Maori, and he is of that generation of Maori that was smacked at school because the Maori language would not be tolerated in English run schools. That is why Peter’s responds the way he does to Maori, he is simply jealous of the Maori language and it’s culture.

  6. Winstone is inciting racism and being extremely divisive and any Māori person that votes for him and his party is either demented or needs to be decolonised. Winstone is also as cunning as a fox, and he is playing to his voter base by Maori bashing, and he is appealing to his red neck voter base and has to compete with his CoC mates for the same pool of voters. Also winstones interview on RNZ was apalling and bullying.

  7. For far too many decades now Winston Peters has been nothing short of an Attention Seeking for Himself Trouble-maker.
He has Lied Consistently and Constantly to so many in lead up to Election even once he established NZ First.
In one election in the 90s he swore “Black and Blue”(such ironic political colours when all things and history since is considered)to NEVER Enter into a Coalition government with National and at the time Bolger.
But once the votes were counted that is exactly what Peters did because he Deliberately LIED to the voters. My late parents and I were taken in by his Blatant and Deliberate Lie and voted for NZ First. What a Idiotic Mistake that was because we were fooled by the Prolific Liar that is Winston Peters.
I am a Pakeha and since Peters Lied to NZ Voters when it has Suited Him and HIS EGO I wouldn’t trust nor touch him with a Barge-Pole/Poll.
He now comes across as a Angry, Bitter Old Man Who has Lost his Marbles but thinks he is a Big Fish in a Little Pond that is NZ.
Lets face it about Winston Peters is Winston Peters ONLY cares about Winston Peters even whilst he demeans himself into the realms of insanity, greed, ego and eventually His OWN self destruction.
