Andrew Little to run for Wellington mayoralty

Former Labour Party leader and Minister Andrew Little has confirmed he will run for Wellington mayor.

Little had been sought after by Labour to run on the party ticket for mayor – up against incumbent Tory Whanau, who is running on the endorsement of the Green Party.

Six other contenders, including Whanau, have already announced they plan to run for the capital’s top job.

The other five consist of current councillor Ray Chung, former councillor Rob Goulden, conservationist Kelvin Hastie, businessman Karl Tiefenbacher, and Wellington Live’s Graham Bloxham.

Good.

I’m glad Andrew Little is running for Wellington mayor.

Wellington council is a dysfunctional joke  made far worse than it ever needs by the terrible flawed, failing and flailing Tory Whanau.

Tory has shat on almost every value on the Left with her position on the Air Port and the manner in which the Wellington Unions were treated when they met her was just jaw dropping in its woke victim pandering.

Tory Whanau’s chief of staff is Nadine Walker.

She’s a former Green Party press secretary and partner of party co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick.

In an insanely heated argument between Union Wellington representatives critical of Tory’s airport sale, Nadine dropped the greatest political quote of 2024 to truly help identify what top shelf woke wank truly looks like.

The Spinoff coverage is glorious of the exchange:

The two sides went back and forth but made no progress. Ninety minutes after the meeting began, the Unions Wellington crew stumbled out onto the Terrace bewildered. Rizos-Shaw was nearly in tears. An hour late for work, she texted her boss: “just got yelled at by the mayor, sorry!”

“It was a bad atmosphere,” says Jacob. “Tory has done a lot of yelling, accusing us of sabotaging her personally, having an attitude problem, refusing to come to the forum. It couldn’t have gone worse.” Two days out from the public forum – a crucial moment in the campaign – their confidence was shaken.

…read this and weep…

Sixteen minutes later, Walker replied, “Tory is still going to decline going to this meeting, and I have to say, unfortunately, even with your commitment to a safe environment to discuss, I found this agenda item framed up in a way that is disconcerting.” Walker was referring to the agenda item described as “Pinning Councillors/Mayor down”. Rizos-Shaw was confused. “‘Pinning’ is merely community organizing slang for asking candidates yes or no questions,” she replied.

…here is the Nadine Walker quote that you have to read to believe…

“OK, thanks for clarifying,” said Walker. “I am used to Greens language/kaupapa, where metaphors that invoke violence are avoided, so perhaps that is why I was shocked to read that!”

…WOW!

Just. WOW!

“I am used to Greens language/kaupapa, where metaphors that invoke violence are avoided, so perhaps that is why I was shocked to read that!”

The only thing more passive-aggressive than that statement is slapping your own face during orgasm!

Tory’s Chief of Staff attempted to twist ‘pinning down the Mayor’ into some sexual assault safety issue and was triggered by the mere use of the word!

“I am used to Greens language/kaupapa, where metaphors that invoke violence are avoided”

I’m assuming the word ‘bussy’ isn’t in that kaupapa?

Way too much woke, not enough toke.

The Greens need a smoke.

The Greens supporting Tory is the inevitable outcome of identity politics uber Alles. Only the pure who have been anointed by the woke conclave are allowed leadership no matter how weak and meaningless that leadership is.

For the middle class woke with a first step on the property ladder, identity aesthetics trumps economic universalism.

As for this

Former Green MP Golriz Ghahraman, who resigned as an MP at the start of 2024 after shoplifting allegations emerged, criticised Little’s decision.

“So Labour are leaving the Super City to a rightwing puppet mayor but they’re going after the only Green mayor and wāhine Māori?” Ghahraman posted on Instagram.

“What’s going on guys, did you learn nothing from that election you just lost?”

..Cough.

I’m not sure Golriz is in any position to lecture anyone on anything.

Little will smash this nonsense and should easily take Wellington.

The question now is Auckland.

With Desley Simpson likely to challenge Wayne Brown and split the vote on the Right, Phil Goff could have a free run for the job now he is back in Auckland. I asked David Parker if he was interested in standing and he laughed and said for me to shoot him if I ever see him standing for the Auckland Mayoralty.

If Andrew Little takes Wellington and Phil Goff takes Auckland, Labour would have a real chance of a political comeback in the next election.

The Greens have damaged their political brand with Tory, it’s just them who don’t see it.

  1. Oh G*d! The Dynamic Duo! Toss in Stuart Nash and you could have a Terrific Trifecta Tag Team! Go Labour!

  2. Glad to see another wedge between Labour and Greens .
Wellington is in is an example of how bad things could get if Greens get government power.

  3. Trevor 100%. Add the Mad Hatter’s Te Party to the government potage and all New Zealand would be the dystopian nightmare which constitutes Wellington today.

  4. If Andrew Little takes Wellington and Phil Goff takes Auckland, the concern for Labour is (come next general election) there is a good chance they’ll both remind voters how useless Labour are.

  5. Career gas bag meets career wind bag. Welllington goes whaaaaa….? then heads back to the free lunch.

  6. The Greens have damaged their brand so many times in the last two years, nothing like Jeanette and Rod’s leadership. However I have huge faith in Chloe.

  7. Out of idle curiosity, when Mister Hipkins leaves national politics in 2026, which city will be lucky enough to get him in 2028?

  8. So many trolls out today, we should get one of Nationals serial sex offenders to run the cities.

” So, having teased it last week, Andrew Little has announced he will run for mayor of Wellington. On RNZ, he’s saying its all about services – “fixing the pipes, making public transport cheaper, investing in parks, swimming pools and libraries, and developing more housing”. Meanwhile, to the readers of the reactionary Post, he’s making a rather different pitch:

Little, who is working as a lawyer after serving as an MP for 12 years, said his priorities in office would be fiscal responsibility, affordable housing and better project management, such as reconsidering the controversial Golden Mile project.
    […]

As mayor, he would pursue a regional deal to build new infrastructure, put an end to front-loading costs on ratepayers, and run a ruler over-spending.

“Fiscal responsibility”, “an end to front-loading costs on ratepayers”, “run a ruler over-spending” – yes, it’s the same “Keep Rates Low” platform which is responsible for the underinvestment in infrastructure which has seen perpetually leaky pipes and shit on the streets. With a side order of empty promises of “better management” and some wishful thinking about getting someone else to pay for it all. Oh, and some “questions” about cycleways and urbanism, just to ensure wealthy urban-villa-owners and ute-drivers are on-side. And that’s apparently what Labour stands for now: the classic stale, pale, male agenda which has wrecked local government in Aotearoa. The last gasp of the greedy generation which looted everything while stealing from the future.
The good news is that Wellington has STV, so Little running won’t split the vote and allow some right-wing, Keep Rates Low candidate to win. But we may get one under Labour colours instead. Vote accordingly.

  10. I can’t see a bother. Cities are for techno-politicals. And Andrew remembers the neediest. Just no use to man nor beast for NZ in the national sphere.

  11. Why does every Labour leader seem aimed at a mayorship ultimately these days? Their CVs over the terrible reality. Over the neediest neglected into the 40th year since ’84 and climate change. Greens, identitarian, Labour, for the rich first. Most of all, the vile Robertson and Ardern.

How should we have done it — fkn talking.

  12. All the negative, game-playing trolls come out and play when they have a chance to spew on party and politicians they don’t like. Thank goodness there are a few reasoned comments. Michal good hope for Chloe. Perhaps she can keep her head while others are bewildered and confused when they actually get what they have been campaigning for so long,

  13. Are they the best that the Left can offer. Two washed up oldsters who never rocked the neolib Douglasite set up. Chardonnay socialists. God preserve us.
