The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog, 3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.
All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.
EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird Bullshit about the UN taking over the world and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

Sounds interesting.
…More than 300 people have signed up so far to participate in Whanganui city’s first citizens’ assembly.
Whanganui District Council is expecting more registrations over the next week before the cutoff at midnight on Sunday, 16 March.
Council promos are urging residents: ‘Get paid to join our citizens’ assembly!’.
“A group of local people will be paid to discuss and debate the future of outdoor swimming in our district,” an online promo says.
The council initiative – first proposed by the mayor – will bring together 40 residents randomly selected from those who register…
My comment is that it is a good pilot. But people need to take courses in decision making and enabling discussion on feasiblity, design and cost and level of charge so they can apply their minds to realistic present and future situations. Also cost and level of charge as it shouldn’t be free; people don’t appreciate things needing high maintenance if they don’t pay anything for their use. But also need to think how to offer its use to everybody, to some extent, at low cost.

Day Two in Gaza of no mains electricity for water desalination. Water production operating on standby generators, at 70% until fuel runs out.

Gaza’s natural water source, the Wadi Gaza, was dammed and diverted to Israel long ago. Leaving the population of Gaza dependent on desalination and bore water.
Sooo 1990’s film Total Recall from 1990 – was it a training video for getting to accept the reality of Gaza today?
Turbinium is the main plot driver in the 1990 movie Total Recall, as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character Douglas Quaid tries to bring down a a tyrannical dictator who is keeping the planet Mars in a uninhabitable state so he can make millions off the mining of the valuable ore [or whatever!].. 24 Jun 2024

Time for us to pull finger while we still have some.

Charles III music playlist includes Dame Kiri Te Kanawa who sang at his wedding. But also there could be that great NZAO bass-baritone Inia Te Wiata who had a scholarship to study music in England, People were interested in helping talented NZrs aiming for excellence in more than sport on in those days.
Thanks to fundraising and a government grant, in 1947 Te Wiata left for London for three years’ study at the Trinity College of Music. …To gain more experience with opera…he [successfully undertook] Sarastro from Mozart’s The Magic Flute…As the end of the three-year study grant was approaching, the Prime Minister of New Zealand Peter Fraser, [Labour Party] visited England and Te Wiata took the opportunity to successfully apply for a grant for a fourth year. !!
He was very successful in a number of productions and roles.
But also there was his carving. ,,,Te Wiata carved a fine waka huia for Sir Thomas Macdonald, [National Party] New Zealand’s High Commissioner, to present to the Worshipful Company of Butchers on Macdonald’s departure from London. Te Wiata also had a long-term project carving five large tōtara logs. He continued working on this project in between his professional obligations, but was unable to complete the work (Pouihi) before his death in 1971.
Inia Te Wiata died. NZ House was partly occupied by commercial tenants.
He carved a huge pou that was left in NZ House, It should have been brought home in his honour and ours, but was left behind for others to enjoy.
Giant carving ‘needs NZ home’ – New Zealand News

13 Aug 2004 — Inia Te Wiata carved the pou, made from a giant totara shipped from the central North Island and incorporating traditional Maori and European …
Auckland Museum chairman David Hill, who backed the pou’s repatriation in a letter to Prime Minister Helen Clark late last year, said the the museum’s iwi consultant group Taumata a-iwi, the wider Te Wiata whanau and the Maori Queen, Dame Te Atairangikaahu, were in support.
“The board is aware of the Government’s programme to repatriate notable New Zealand artworks owned by the Government and held abroad,” he said, adding that the museum would be an ideal place to house the pouihi.
However, Government officials have been less than enthusiastic.
Ms [Beryl] Te Wiata’s request prompted a flurry of responses from officials, including letters from Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Phil Goff and Associate Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Judith Tizard.
“The Government had the cheek to say we need a lot of people to agree to the move,” said Ms Te Wiata. “We got everybody and they still say no. I think they have put it in the too hard basket.”
Mr Goff said there were no immediate plans to move from the building, leased from the British Government until 2050.
“The Government is looking at options, but we are nowhere near the point at the moment where a final decision has been taken.”
Mr Goff conceded the building was not what it was at the time of carving.
“What Beryl is saying is it is not the cultural icon that it once was in the 60s and 70s. I think that’s true.
“When I was a young traveller there you used to pick your mail up at New Zealand House. It was a hive of activity for New Zealanders. It is not that now, but it is still the trademark building for New Zealand’s presence in London and as such the pouihi is the focal point.”…

Now it is time to remodel this valuable property in London. And it is time to bring the pouihu home to celebrate our unique culture and achievements. Not to have jumped up little pakeha with a teaspoon of Maori blood trying to upturn our national relationship and laws with a pinchbar!
