Meet your new Musk, same as the old Musk

Canadian billionaire makes move to take over board of NZME

  • Canadian billionaire makes bid to dump media company NZME board
  • Jim Grenon emerged as near 10 pct shareholder this week
  • Says he has support of big shareholders for his move
  • Earlier said no intention at this stage to make takeover offer

Don’t we have enough alt-right billionaire arseholes manipulating our media as it is?

Grenon joins the ranks of Musk overseas and the Christian Conservative Wright Family here in NZ as just another miserable rich prick who has a gross disgust of poor people and the common good wanting to have their voice heard.

The Centrist is a culture war alt-right news platform that hates poor people, vaccines, Māori and the Trans community with a frisson that would make your average ZB Troll blush.

The Centrist is hate speech merchant disinformation garbage attempting to appear moderate.

Like a burning cross in an Epsom garden, or Cameron Slater in a tuxedo.

Grenon’s seizing of an almost 10% holding in NZME should be deeply concerning and is the latest move by Alt-right astroturfers and wealthy right wingers feeling emboldened by Trump’s victory and ACT’s race baiting to ‘go there’.

The last thing our media needs is another foaming billionaire taking over our Fourth Estate.

The New Zealand Herald was always a right wing rag, it’s first editorial was calling on white Kiwis to start a war with Māori, but under this new Canadian Billionaire, he’s about to make Fox News look reasonable.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

  1. How ironic…
I’ve just finished watching this on Netflix. Scary, classy and a bit good.
    ‘The Madness. ‘
“On a solo trip to the Poconos, writer and pundit Muncie Daniels meets a mysterious new neighbour. However, Muncie soon finds him dead under shocking circumstances.”
We need unity in the workforce to offset the tyranny of rich loopies.

  2. Which Atlas aligned rat/s in NZ invited the Canadian to initially buy into an NZ media channel and then possibly take it over I wonder?

Could be end of the Herald really if they do go full Fox. NZME has closed most of its regional papers and sacked scores of experienced journalists–a rotten organisation already.

    • @ Tiger Mountain.
Hmmm… good point. Why does seymour come to mind? He IS an atlas aligned rat in public denial while in-waiting for PM-ship after all.
David the rogergnome. And how about ol’ Roger douglas aye? The grand pappy of wee seymour, aw bless… Roger destroyed our agricultural infrastructure by over-parasitisation, then he enabled crooks who stole our state paid for and built thus publicly assessable infrastructure and has handed us down to private enterprise AKA private piracy including now foreign owned banksters and a cadre of Kiwi-As multi-billionaires and multi-millionaires.
      David Seymour’s perfect Canadian accent

When I first watched the above my toes curled so much that I had to go and see a professional toe uncurler.
The above is a simplified explanation for why we AO/NZ’ers are on the bones of our arses on a rich country.
The space below is for you to fill with ideas of what to do about that.
      Go for it……
      Rope? Yes. Branch? Yes.
      Carry on…

  3. I hope he fires half the editorial staff to bring in some balance and intellect. Starting with Simon Wilson. Oh and they desperately need a decent cartoonist.

    • So Wilson telling you the truth is too much for you .I guess you think Ukraine invaded Russia and Palastine never had Palastinians living there for hundreds of years .I suppose Japan bombed its self with atomic bombs and Germany was invaded by Poland .

    • Balance, yep it would be good to get balance instead of the right wing paid for crap we have to put up with now Handy Andy.

  4. This is a good news story….another where the lefty journalists are being sacked/resigned.
NZ Herald board needs to be cleaned out, replaced by actual neutral board members who are not just parroting Labour/Green/maori party press releases and statements with no counter viewpoint.
Hopefully Stuff is next in line to fail, be sold ($1 is too much this time round though, perhaps Stuff pay the buyer this time)

  5. Dont personaly like the herald due to its already right wing bias which clearly will be taken down the rabbit hole the whole way now .Winston and river of filth will become the main reporters and it will be full of hate for all minorities in NZ which will suit the rich and people who farm stolen land .

  6. If the NZ Herald turns centre-right, I will miss terribly the articles about how now is a great time to buy real estate and about how using dehumidifiers and ice cream are anti-Maori and against the Tiriti!

    • Or you could read Audrey Young, Fran Osulivan and Barry Sopers anything but Labour articles and how National are wonderful for the economy and it’s all the Maori’s fault.
You see Ada that’s the balance supposedly.

    • White couches,  walls of shades of alabaster, framed dull prints of masters overlook the unread coffe table books and there sits Ada with her Herald

” ‘Tis said the one eyed man is king in the Land Of The Blind.”

So many people are conservative they never embrace change
And they look on people who are different to them as untrustworthy and strange
They hang on to their own beliefs and to the past they cling
And they feel challenged by different views and to them change is a fearful thing.

Though people like the Seasons come and go and nothing seems to last
They hang on to their old beliefs the beliefs of the past
Their ancestors still rule their lives though they have been dead for years
They resist change and hang on to their old phobias and fears.

They vote for politicians like themselves on National Election day
Each to their own that’s how it is and it’s
      always been that way
They give support to the men of war who ravage and destroy
When they send the young to a far Land for to kill for them or die.

They do not grow any wiser they just grow old and gray
And their children turn out like them in almost every way
To them the word inclusive means stick by your own beliefs and kind
Tis said the one eyed man is king in the Land Of The Blind.

Due to irrigation for crops the waters of the mighty river no longer reach the sea
But the dire consequences of this they do not seem to see
And due to human created salinization the salt pans grow and grow
Yet little about Nature they wish to learn
      and know.

If you do not believe in their God and their ways they push you to the side
And leave you stranded like the driftwood that is washed in by the tide
Their greatest fear is difference and they place their trust in same
Yet they seem such boring people for want of a better name.
They worry for their own children and they justify a lie
When in their so called just war other parents children die
Like wolves they pack together and their communion bond is strong
And they go to their prayer meetings and worship their God in song.
In the Government of any Nation the majority of the Nation’s people one can see

Our leaders reflect our image though many with that may not agree
Their views of life are narrow and their own small worlds are small
They believe in a fair go for their own kind but not in a fair go for all.

    • Hah. The Herald has been centre-right to far right since 1863. The thing I loathe most about Roger Douglas is that he jumped so far to the right so quickly that he completely distorted Kiwis’ perception of the political spectrum. It’s so distorted now that most of us don’t realise that we’ve been living inside a radically right wing status quo for 40 years and don’t see that Mike Hosking, Barry Soper, HdPA, Richard Prebble, Steven Joyce and many others are laughable, righty fruit cakes and historically unprecedented.

  7. I’m Right you just keep repeating the same bullshit in the hope one day you might be correct!
Are you one of a million monkeys, randomly hitting keyboards, to try and rewrite world history?
    Here is the lesson again.
Commercial media depends for its revenue on advertising which comes from capitalists.
Commercial media cannot afford to piss off capitalist advertisers.
Commercial Media never has been, and never will be, and cannot be anti-capitalist.
The above is called logic and it is used by sane people in their reasoning.

  8. If he seizes total control, he needs to ban the use of Aotearoa, which is the first thing I would do if I had enough money to purchase TVNZ.

  9. The only real, true, free and open media available is here. The Daily Blog. And sometimes I have my doubts about even about The Daily Blog. ( For example why hate on farmers? ” White cracker racist” primary industry people doomed to ignorance because of physical isolation and why not begin a discussion on a united Farmer / @ Maori co-production? Why not? Everything to gain, nothing to lose surely? Money + Treaty? Yes? No? )
Which brings me to write and to paraphrase:
The price of [media] freedom is eternal [discussion and] vigilance [in readiness for direct action.]
Ooo look? A little red dot…!

    • Long excluded from Labour’s The Standard but I remember, and so assume still, good discussions there. Lyn Prentice, the owner, and his minions, could be quite vicious. I spoke my truth and was cut out. The fuckhead was radicalized by the lack of a freemarket in the 70s and 80s, so a Rogernome from then to here. Entirely ridiculous, but not incongruous to the Labour Party from then to here.

I’m sure you’d be allowed on The Standard where there is much more discussion. Just don’t get down on the managers.

  10. After Trumps victory in November last year John Key said – ‘this is part of a global movement’ – and I felt a shiver run down the back of my spine. The only way the coalition can win the NZ election in 2026 is by owning and controlling the narrative. And that is exactly what they are doing now in real-time. They have arrived in NZ and started operating – the movement is here. I have no idea what we can do TBH.

  11. WHO CARES? The mainstream media in NZ is so bad nobody watches it, unless this billionaire literally ties us up and forces us to watch it or literally comes here and attempts to charge us for TV and internet rights (which is the only way they will even make a dime) it will fail

  12. A Canuck is a first cousin, Yanks are our Appalachian second cousins. But the unspoken rule for billionaires buying into our country is stf up or fuck off. Theil understands that.

Our Left blogs are horrible. More small businesses than the expansive rhetoric necessary for overthrowing this wrong establishment. They’re more a negative, ever retreating. Better a non-commercial site. Nil solidarity when Prentice chucked me off his site — solidarity is the only thing the people have.
