Last week we had economic data that showed unemployment up to 5.1% while the Government expands benefit sanctions!
The Government is trying to force 350 000 job seekers into work when there is less than 11000 jobs on trademe and 5000 on Seek while the Government have sacked 9520 public sector workers!
Where are the jobs?
Unemployment is 5.1% for the general population, but it’s 9.7% for Māori and 10.7% for our Pacifica whanau, are Māori and Pacifica collateral damage for National’s growth agenda?
The revamped Public Housing policy Chris Bishop promised and cost us $500 000 from Emergency Housing for Bill English to write a plan over text message that amounts to selling off public housing in posh suburbs and pushing poor people into ghettos in poorer suburbs.
Chris Bishop argues that Kāinga Ora’s construction costs are 12 percent above market rate while ignoring the fact 70% of State Tenants have disabilities and the extra cost is to make them functional!
Stats NZ reported last week that building consents fell 9.8% to 33,600 after the Government suspended Kāinga Ora’s new building work – the Government is floundering over a mistake they made!!!
The Ferry debacle caused all because Nicolas Willis needed virtue signal to show she was going to cut budgets and has ended up costing us over a billion!

Remember, Nicola Willis was was a director of the New Zealand Initiative, a pro-free-market public-policy Atlas Network linked think tank, from May 2016 until February 2017.

Take a look at the example of public health.
In the Budget, National allocated just 2.9% increase to health services but inflation was 3.3% and population growth 2.6% while an ageing population adds more to costs.
National gave 2.9% for health but we needed 8% to stand still, is the electorate dumb enough to fall for National’s latest manufactured public service crisis to introduce more failed free market reforms?
The Minister says we can’t afford $1.4billion for health but we could borrow $14billion for tax cuts, again is the electorate dumb enough to believe this?
We have progressively decreased taxing the richest to fund out public services until the public services fall over and the public scream ‘something must be done’ and the Right ‘here’s something’ and they privatise a little more and you get even less.
There is an old saying in NZ politics, Labour is good for Capitalism, National is good for Capitalists.
Welcome to Crony Capitalism and as our public services get eroded by cheap tricks and numbers, this Government enrich their mates at the collective cost of us all.
The ease with which the sleepy hobbits of muddle NuZilind are led to give the rich more while hurting the poor is a Kiwi super power.
At some point as the economy tanks because of this Government’s deeply flawed policies, you are going to have to personally challenge your post covid bitterness and ask yourself hard questions over how you had that bitterness manipulated by the Right.

If there is no election called this year we will limp into 2026 with a stuffed economy, a broken health system, rising unemployment, ingrained racial and social tensions coupled with a general malaise of negativity throughout the electorate. I am usually positive but this is the worst govt with the worst PM I have witnessed since the Norm Kirk years. This country deserves better.
Willis is a classic example of how a financially privileged upbringing, a private school education and an early introduction to old boy/girl networks, via her lawyer father and her political journalist mother, equates in any way shape or form to intelligence….she’s as basic , as thick, and still as privileged, as they come.
What that kind of upbringing has created, is someone who thinks that they are way better at what they do, than they actually are…legends in their own minds, if you will.
Unfortunately … what we currently have, in the case of Willis, is someone, whose narcissism, hubris, and lack of financial intelligence / ability, sending N.Z. into an ever steeper nosedive tailspin… with a surplus hopelessly out of sight until at least 2031/32 and unemployment sky rocketing, when Grant Robertson had us on the right track to achieve that financial milestone by mid 2027…as verified by treasury …. without decimating the workforce.
There is no way out for her now….and she managed to do all that in just 15months..
She was warned and warned and warned by economists of all stripes prior to the election not enact her self -vaunted stupid ideas… but no!! …the unwarranted ego is massive and wouldn’t be told .

Maybe I am naive but a question that I have is all this right economics the rich will benefit short term but even they will lose in the long run because they will no longer have the workers to run the economy and so they will lose too – do they ever consider the long term consequences of their actions?
