Bashing beneficiaries, burning the environment and more deregulation for donor interests: Luxon’s State of the Nation highlights National have zero answers

Luxon is a terrible politician at the best of times, but his KPI robotic CEO routine as the economy melts down BECAUSE OF HIS AUSTERITY AGENDA is so charmless this time around it’s now at the point of not actually helping.

Chris, you ain’t helping.

His policy platform as 1000s leave the country each week, as the planet burns, as the economy contracts because he has cut Government spending and borrowed for tax cuts we can’t afford, his comeback to all of this is bashing beneficiaries, burning more of our environmental capital and demanding ‘growth’.

If things weren’t so tough for so many Kiwi, this would be a farce,

He has addressed none of his own culpability when pushing for austerity budgets, when giving the richest landlord tax loop holes and punishing anyone needing welfare – he has addressed none of those like an alcoholic refusing to look at their own behaviour.

Luxon is in denial at how his Austerity has caused so much of the current problems and this desire to open NZ up to be exploited even further as some sort of economic response to the cost cutting his Government has led to is like an arsonist who refuses to acknowledge  his lighter has caused a fire!

Whoring off our natural resources to overseas investors while deregulating law so donor mates can get s sweet deal is not a fucking economic solution, it’s a continuation with the very same failed neoliberal policies of the last 40 years!

This is garbage and every Kiwi has to see through how hollow Luxon’s so called vision actually is, the reality is National have zero answers because they are the problem!

If this is the State of our Nation, we are so much more fucked than we appreciate!

  1. ‘Chris, you ain’t helping.’
    Well he is helping.
He is helping a select band of people with wealth, power and influence who finance his government.
    This is history repeating.
The austerity of Ruth Richardson is seen as a failure UNLESS you count the wealth it created for bankers, businesspeople and pedophiles(Brierly).
“Ruthenasia’ caused more unemployment and slowed economic growth in almost exactly the same way as now( going through a mall yesterday and seeing all the empty cafes, bars and small shops I felt I was in a time machine return to the 1990s).
Instead of exchanging business friendly National for business friendly Labour we need to break out of the pit of that Hayek and Friedman have planned and their obscenely rich followers have dug for us.
Either the Labour Party has to return to a genuine policy for the majority of the people( some might call it state socialism) or we need a new political movement(some might call it a revolution).

    • This from Yes Minister trying to find a footing in the bog of excuses about wasting 75,000 pounds on a roof garden. It’s just an example of the difficulties involved in political change and accountability, not necessarily in that combination.. (Peter Sellers et al did a similar one on large spending on blind people’s dogs I think.)

Sorry to be a dripping wet blanket.

As for Wellington perhaps the creatives could take advantage of the depression to use the empty public places as a setting for Part 2, remake of The Quiet Earth. (Lemonade from lemons sort of thing.)
The Quiet Earth is a 1985 New Zealand post-apocalyptic science fiction film directed by Geoff Murphy and starring Bruno Lawrence, Alison Routledge and Peter Smith as three survivors of a cataclysmic disaster. It is loosely based on the 1981 science fiction novel of the same name by Craig Harrison….

Zac Hobson, a scientist employed by Delenco, part of a United States-led international consortium working on “Project Flashlight” – an experiment to create a wireless global energy grid, awakens abruptly; when he turns on his radio, Zac is unable to receive any transmissions. Zac drives into the city, which he finds completely deserted. …

    • It would be great if the Labour party discovered the need to look after the majority of the people but it also seems unlikely. I’m putting my faith in a much higher power as our political system only provides the best government that money can buy.

      • But Bonnie thats exactly what Labour was doing for 6 years ,putting people first hence such things as social housing and emergency housing during covid and the covid response itself was about protecting all kiwis wether they joined in or not they were still protected from the virus way better than any other country in the world .Then we had well being budgets which were there to help all kiwis not just the wealthy .Look at all the wind backs Lucon has done and you will see they are aimed at the less well off .So now the help that those people were getting has been cut or all gone completly.I know the mind becomes clouded with all the bull shit we are fed by the PM and his team of incompetents and we forget which way labour was trying to steer NZ in the longer term .

        • Sorry GW I should have made it clearer that I wanted a Labour government as like you say they did good things with building state houses, minimum wage, COVID response and responding to the terrorism in Christchurch etc but they just lost their way in the second term so I went TMP for party vote and Labour electoral vote. My first real political memories are of Norm Kirk and what the party is now is hardly fit to live in his shadow.
Thankfully I know that a better world is coming so while I support efforts to make life better for people now and especially for those suffering true salvation is free as only faith is required which will transform our character.

  2. De regulation for Donor interests seems a good bet to me.

    Far better than.

Ever increasing regulation and strangulation to appease Union interests.

    • what about the strangulation of unions to appease the business interests? Hows that going with low wages and expensive houses and living costs then the need for the government forced to introduce rent subsidies, working for families ,family boost and the like because the government wont make employers pay more or allow house prices to fall where they should be .NZ could cut taxes if the government stopped all the subsidizing business with the above payments .Houses would fall 50% so workers would be able to buy their own house again .

  3. Indeed we were royally f***ed the last election when greed overthrew need . Luxon comes with the phrase
“ an empty vessel makes the most noise”. Voters were so enamored by the Key wannabe but in reality he was just plain old thick Luxon who ruined an airline. But hey look who just got made president in the good old US of A. MY prediction is that we will soon enough be selling our souls and our country to the devil aka the likes of Trumps sycophantic Eon Musk. Maybe instead of wanting Greenland he can have New Zealand instead

    • The NZ voter was just too dumb to see the reality because they were too blinded by their two year spending spree and thought they would carry on doing the same .They were also too dumb to realise the lies they were being fed were just that lies .So now they are getting what they voted for and are having to face the reality they are not from the sorted group this government courts ,but are fast becoming bottom feeders .

  4. The whole clusterfuck of a cliched speech was a comlete schmozzle…

Growth at any cost …the last politician that went for that rhetoric was Liz Truss…
…Luxon is N.Z.’s Liz Tuss and his media stand up performances are just as bad…He looks all at sea and can’t answer anything.

He has no answers to the mess they have created in just 12 short months,
and the very people that he would need by his side….the scientists.. to help get any meaningful ‘growth,’ he has fired…

14 months ago N.Z. was conned…this is the result.

  5. I don’t like Luxon and I don’t want to see the silver ware sold off to foreigners but I do agree if we want to continue living in a first world country we have to use our abundant natural resources. I see no point in wandering around in sack cloth and ashes to appease the U.N for the infinitesimal amount of polution we put out. Meanwhile India and China are building new coal fired power stations at record rates. Seriously what is the point in committing economic suicide? We have to start drilling and mining now, just do it carefully and properly.

    • You are right about using the raw material we have in the best way possible to give us a good standard of living. Poor people do not have the privilege of choice to buy the expensive free range eggs and organic vegetables. The same can be said about countries like Norrway who are using tye wealth oil created to improve their green economy and allow their citizens a good life.

    • The Statutory Regulations are being ‘modified’ so that drilling and mining doesn’t have to be done carefully and properly. That’s the whole idea. Open Slather.

      • If we end up in anything like the shape Alaska is in from the mining those idiot companies do there for TV series entertainment…then it is all over for us.
They seem to devastate the landscape and allow huge amounts of contaminated water and fill to then run back and seep everywhere.
Then they have to abandon the season due to frozen land and they leave it all there for next season. Then they all go and count their takings which are in the millions.
This is no doubt what Luxon and Jones want here…

        • Yes, they are revolting. I’m surprised it’s allowed but it is and that’s what we’ll face too.
We aren’t as big as Alaska and it will show. So much for your million-dollar views if there’s a useful mineral in the way.

    • A quick Google search would show that China is building less new coal power generation and is likely to burn less coal overall as it’s renewable generation has substantially increased. Obviously they want backup to cover when the sun is not shining or the wind blowing although it is also difficult for coal plants to make a profit in China now with renewable generation being so cheap. Not like our corrupt electricity supply system where all generators get the price of the highest cost power available at that time since our politicians obviously thought that it was more important to enable generator profits than allow the people to have affordable power.
You can be sure that any new economic activity from mining will be reflected in increased profit for the top end of town and increased cost for society as the environment is destroyed.

  6. The idiocy of merging AgResearch with the Forest Research Institute and DSIR is right up there with the rest of their nonsense. Not only are they traitors to this country, they’re deliberately sabotaging it at the same time they sell it out.

  7. Yes, Marco Luxon said his party would help the squeezed middle, but they are the one doing the squeezing at the moment and they have moved from squeezing us to suffocating us through austerity cause people aren’t spending and why would you when you could lose your job next week.

  8. The beneficiary bashing is a form of perversion and mental sickness. Just imagine if one of us had the power to push someone out of work, and onto a benefit you’d say that was perhaps at best making a hard decision. But to follow that up by blaming the person you pushed out of work, and harassing them, well that’s plain sick and evil.

    • If every worker was paid properly the welfare bill would be smashed over night .Why the fuck does a person whom is working full time have to have their income topped up by government subsidies so they can pay rent to a greedy landlord who also gets futher tax cuts from government as well .It is an insult to every working person that they have to line up for a handout after working all week .

    • I agree. They all suffer from a sadistic mental illness of some sort. Personality disorder or something.
How else to explain such deliberate nastiness?

  9. They are as bad as is possible to be. The fact that they have any support (if they do) is a tragedy for NZ.

  10. The $50billion handed out by the covid response to save banks, landlords and corprate shareholders when is a govt going recoup that money from banks and landlords and corporate shareholders.

    • Correct ,but NZ believes the right wing lie that all that money was wasted on the working class when infact it was vaccuumed up by the top 10% .So they hated Labour because they believed the lye that your neighbour got something you did not and voted for the skin head gang leader .Now they are being punished they are not happy .You all voted for it now live the lie .
