…I’ve never understood dog racing or the terrible injuries that occur to them.
It really says so thing about the people involved in the ‘industry’ that the Government has to ram through legislation to stop them from mass killing the dogs doesn’t it?
I disagree with Winston A LOT but in this he has acted with genuine leadership.

Lots of politicians talked about banning Greyhound racing, Winston actually did it.
Well done Winston.
Let’s hope Winstone can show some genuine leadership with our environmental issues as he has with the greyhounds.

The school curriculum captured by transgender extremists has confused and unnecessarily damaged and confused children by peddling non-scientific ideology, while kids drop behind in basics like numeracy and literacy.
Primary school children being told that they can choose their own gender is throughly reprehensible, and some of the secondary curriculum could be viewed as grooming. If the Education Dept zealots think that they can jettison parents, and biology, and social and moral responsibility, they’ll have Mr Peters to contend with. Nice to see a politician who thinks that children matter.

This is not about Animal Welfare.
It is purely Winston looking after his mates in the thoroughbred and trotting industry.
He will ensure that the Greyhound share of betting taxes will go to thoroughbred and trotting.
He will know that people will continue to bet on other events.
Coupled with the proposed crackdown on overseas companies being able to take bets from NZ it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out who the beneficiaries are and it’s not the dogs.
Can anyone tell me how many horses die or are badly injured while racing or being trained in NZ each year.
Winston is also showing little regard for the people who will lose their livelihood or what will happen to the assets that have been built up over the years.
It will be like his reform of racing in 2018, a complete cockup with unsalvageable assets left to rot as they have become worthless.
Here again we see a Minister making decisions based on personal benefit or ideology as opposed to the benefit for NZ.
It was also a bit of a smokescreen to hide that he has lost the battle to have rail enabled ferries.

Yes, I agree with ya Uncle toby I thought the same he is going to pump the money into horse racing he is very devious, and they have done fuck all on the Ferry debacle just putting it off till the next financial year as the books are in a mess and they haven’t done their due diligence.
As a former race horse owner and trainer I would say that horse racing is no safer than dog racing from experience .Only 10% of horses that race win one race and 10% of them win another race .Over the years we had one horse that won seven times .But we had a lot more that never one or even got to the races .One had only one lung ,one had a heart defect ,two broke bones in their knees ,another won one race and another never had the will to win .
Check out the big money players and see if they have more success and the answer will be no .Some are buying 100 a year so they may get 10 or so winners out of that number .
Winston must look after his big doners like cambridge stud velas and te akau .Check out how much the donated to NZ FIRST ,ACT AND NATIONAL you might find it was close to 1.5 million .
Hmm interesting comments from those wiser in the industry. Obviously horse racing will be next, but is it too ingrained in the cycle.
As for banning dog racking. This is good. People I know who have homed these dogs that survive say they have little to no social skills, as they are reared in cages, like poor hens, from the get go. Humans are so cruel to animals. It must stop. But it won’t even tho we increasingly understand how all creatures including insects, bees etc have emotions and thoughts and can think and plan.
Hopefully the discontinued industry will be supported, dogs and humans, to transition to better homes and money making operations.
My first question to these dozzy people that want greyhound racing banned is have you ever patted a greyhound and none of them never have. I have a pet one with 5 acres to run in , so much for the cage . the SPCA having so much to say now, a city I lived in for a couple of years had a member who did there dirty work for them as a 10 cent bullet was the much cheaper option than a Vet’s bill. Forbury Park in Dunedin had a greyhound track and in its last 2 years of operation no injuries and along came Daddy Big Bucks and said I’ve bought the place you’ve got 2 weeks to get out and do know who Daddy Big Bucks was , The Dunedin City Council , paid 13million for it and now it’s making a loverly swamp when it’s not a pond , could have still been a trotting track and a greyhound track,never mind those Dunedin Ratepayers have got plenty of money. As far as the greyhounds go we have heard it all before and it happened yet. BOOT HILL
