Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

All in all, TDB gives punters a very, very, very wide space to comment in but we won’t bother with out right lies or gleeful malice. We leave that to the Herald comment section.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist abuse, homophobic abuse, racist abuse, anti-muslim abuse, transphobic abuse, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

  1. I’m repairing my bathroom and have to pay the government GST, over $200 tax, for bringing the conditions up to standard. Ba….ds. GST at 15% was what Switzerland used to pay. Key had this idea of us being another Switzerland, being a safe place for the wealthy to park money etc; a happy place for the rich who would pay solid taxes on everything.

We all were supposed to be gliding along along, though not as in the public service tv show that accentuated rumoured cute ways of government workers. But no, the hills aren’t alive to the sound of glad music, or even with the glow of sanctity of religion as in the idealistic film of The Sound of Music.

We cannot afford this impost of 15% on everything we use for everybody? carried on though the economic system results in pay which is less than the living wage needed. My pensioner neighbour is has started borrowing from me but I guess that suits all the toffee-nosed who have hoisted themselves to positions of prominence. What rubbish these people in charge think and talk – their heads should be recycled and may be, not in a way approved by the rubbish tip rules. Give me back my New Zealand with added Aotearoa, you sods, damn you.

On The Standard to find comment on the general post Open Mike about the proposed paper mill closures NI-nz , you have to go through a spirited interchange about self-service in supermarkets and the China sea lane access. The problem with Labour people as a rule seems that their heads are too scattered and are full of opinions about other things. Similar to those connected with gender and trans affairs. Let us please stick around the issue of the homeless workless and true social welfare-absence in this country.

But at No. 10 is Bearded Git who generally has something useful to say. https://thestandard.org.nz/open-mike-11-09-2024/#comment-2010812

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The closure of the two Winstone Pulp mills has almost NOTHING to do with power prices.

In a company such as this…remembering that there are hundreds of employees….power costs would be a small part of overall costs…probably less than 10 per cent.
Even if power prices have on average gone up 20 per cent this year (the major price spikes tend to be very short term) this would mean that power price increases have added TWO PER CENT to the operating costs.

The real reason is now emerging why they are closing …it is the fall in price of wood pulp.
The MSM needs to stop quoting “the mills closed due to rocketing power prices” bollocks. This meme seems to be all about helping Simeon Brown justify his ridiculous LNG import proposal.

I think it is time for government to step in and take up this business on public national basis. And this could very possibly be done without interfering with business interests involved in our international trade agreements. Why not step up and try you cowardly creepers in government.
