Finance Minister Nicola Willis, mayors share experiences of gendered online abuse
Female politicians fear a normalised “toxic environment” of gendered abuse is stopping women from wanting a seat at the decision-making table.
Now, National Party deputy leader and Finance Minister Nicola Willis is calling for people to join her in “belittling the trolls”.
Willis spoke at a gathering for women in local government, ahead of the LGNZ SuperLocal conference on Wednesday.
She announced the Ministry for Women was working with Netsafe on a toolkit for workplaces supporting women in leadership positions, including for local council candidates.
No, no, no, no.
There seems to be some confusion here.
Firstly, I think you’ll find Jacinda received the worst gendered attacks and I don’t remember Nicola Willis having a problem then.
Secondly, People don’t hate Nicola Willis because she’s a woman, they hate her because she’s the Nazgul Architect of a hard right, racist, climate denying, beneficiary bashing, disabled abusing Government that is unleashing an anti-Māori, anti-Treaty, anti-worker, anti-renter, anti-disabled, anti-environment agenda that demands contempt.
Rolling up to the Local Government conference and lambasting them for rate rises that National’s own policy has generated by scrapping 3 Waters and then wanting to talk about gendered violence is eye rolling.

Well she did have to detract from Luxie hypocritically ticking off Councils for spending crimes and her own slash and burn magic maths.
The trick is to deflect blame, create fear , distract on record failures in unemployment, rising food prices, lowest
productivity and boast when 10 months into your job they’re a f#k up.
Willis was a hard right advocate for informing us all that her tax cuts were for NZer’s to decide how best to use their money. Yet here is this dictatorship government dictating to councils how and what to do with their money..

Luxon dictating to all ministries and to kiwis to tighten their belts all the while taking a healthy salary increase.
“Firstly, I think you’ll find Jacinda received the worst gendered attacks and I don’t remember Nicola Willis having a problem then.” Hypocrisy is Willis and Nationals number one policy.
She’s just an ugly capitalist lol
No.
You’re wrong. Politics has given you a blind spot.
Women get a really shitty time of it simply because they’re women.
That needs to stop.
Let’s play identity politics with Nicola. What a joke. Fair enough that criticisms should be restricted to her policies and rather regular dishonesty, but that’s the root of the feedback surely. It’s not because of her gender
Two catastrophic policies by Willis stand out, tax cuts and ferry cancelations. Insular and costly. The modern era Ruth Richardson.
She isn’t really qualified for the job. There again Muldoon was and that was no help.
Muldoon built infrastructure. Willis is a destroyer, paid for by alien foreigners.
and sent the country bankrupt .The fuel factory in taranaki was 50% efficient at best .We could have converted every car to LPG and never imported another liter of petrol again .Imagine how much money that would have saved over that 50 years .
I see she has invested in a new suit because she has grown up a bit .Note that it is green ,dose that mean she is jumping into another waka .
Some of the women MPs of the Natzos, NZ First and Act do resemble characters from a 70s Hammer Horror movie–“Dracula’s daughters”…particularly when you see them lined up together.
Martyn is right though, Nicola is criticised for her policies not her sex as far as I can tell. How many scores of death threats logged by security agencies has she had? How many thousands of personally abusive social media comments?…because that is what Jacinda Ardern got.
Mrs Willis is pushing a nasty austerity programme that is basically a war on the poor and shovels the wealth “upstairs” as per NZ National’s usual modus operandi.
It’s interesting your first comment is slagging off women mps appearances.
Exactly the type of people women MPs complain about.
What’ev…do you support the Natzos war on the poor or not?
Fine. When insulting the effortlessly-unlikeable Nicola Willis, we just have to stick to generic insults instead of gendered ones.
Right let’s get the rules sorted out so we can express how much we dislike even abhor her? approach – it is such an important role. The situation shows how unsatisfactory our system of choosing a limited number of people to supposedly represent us. These politicians and would-bes are not graduates of a wide ranging education that taught all that people need to know about humans and our living systems .Despite working for a while when young,..
* …Her first job was as a cashier and server at a Wholly Bagel in Thorndon, Wellington, later working in retail stores selling clothing. ,,,[NZ Uni good degree in English literature,
then post-graduate journalism. Debating interest.] …
After graduation, she worked as a research and policy advisor for Bill English and as a senior advisor to John Key in 2008.
] In 2012, Willis joined dairy co-operative Fonterra in a lobbyist role. She was later a general manager of Fonterra’s nutrient management programme, and sat on the board of Export NZ, a division of lobbyist group Business New Zealand.
Willis was a director of the New Zealand Initiative, a pro-free-market public-policy Atlas Network linked think tank, from May 2016 until February 2017…
Apparently going to university and getting some general degree that has universal appeal and showing prowess, then some time practising business skills with some time at political elbows gives enough opportunity to be assessed as easy to steer. Nicola has done well, with four children to fit in somewhere. If she cuts them off in mid-sentence as she does with us hoi polloi, I think they could have a stunted personality at the end and join us dwarves and trolls. Willis doesn’t know enough to be in charge of more than the Poor Box at her local prosperity church, or other ersatz group!
Those wishing for the occasional light relief amongst dwarves and trolls could start on Terry Pratchett’s Disc World series
The Colour of Magic
The Light Fantastic
Equal Rites …..

At the weekend we will see a fluff article in Herald and Stuff about Ms Willis telling us how much she loves her husband and kids and her desire to see all NZ thriving and being the happiest people in the world.
The poor bugers
I see she is pretending to be tough and spouting at us all .That is a sure sign she is shitting her self .Silence is the best defence in these cases .Just like all the ram raids that were done just to post on tik tok and face book ,as soon as they stopped people posting such shit they stopped ram raiding .However in this case critisisum of her is totaly justified
Threatening someone with rape, death or other harm or intimidation is of course unacceptable, and shows how both right, left and centre have their fair share of knuckle dragging cavemen types and should be fully condemned.
Having a minister of finance that tells hungry people to use it as motivation to get a job, ignoring the plight of children and the sick who can’t, is similarly a toxic position to air publicly and it doesn’t matter to me what sex the fat arse fuck is who says it, ’cause unless they’re also eating the same cheapest, filling, ultra processed bollocks on special that we are while waiting for all the associated long term health consequences that will surely follow, they certainly don’t have the right to just waddle away crying about abuse instead of just fucking all the way off while attempting to fit her tail between her legs in shame.
Willis is just plain thick.
Derek Yep. She has to be thick to be advising women to engage in school yard behaviour. Most women are better than that.
I am sure Willis aspires to be Margaret Thatcher “ the lady is not for turning “ “ get on your bike “ or as Luxon said you can always get a job as a digger driver.
