PSA considering more legal action over Govt job cuts after win

The Public Service Association is considering more legal action over Government job cuts after it won its recent dispute against the Ministry of Education.

…that’s why I doubt the the Health Minister will manage to sack 3000 jobs while hiding behind a Commissioner without the Unions fighting back.

Pay parity legal action has been the main go to for the Union movement in NZ, it’s easier than actually growing Union Membership and going on strike, which is fine and dandy until it’s not.

The sheer scale of the hard Right’s agenda demands a response greater than, ‘we will take you to Court’.

The policy required to win the 2026 election is going to need to be more than, ‘we will roll back all National’s roll backs’.

It must be far more visionary and strong than that.

Meanwhile, shouldn’t Police feel deeply furious over the way their now Union screwed them?

Police officers are accusing the Police Commissioner of “robbing our future”, after a leaked email suggested staff reduce their superannuation contribution to save cash after a disappointing pay offer.

The Police Association understand they are there to further the interests and safety of their members, not make life easier for their National Party mates eh?

  1. It all depends on the wording of the redundancy clauses in the collective. There’s nothing particularly new in that.

  2. Do the unions realize the public aren’t behind them? We want delivery of service and efficiency, not endless karakia in Wellington.

      Unions ARE the public dip shit. You want delivery of service and efficiency do you? So you’ll also want everything for nothing, which is an indication of who and why we need our unions to protect us from.
      You’re the weak link in a chain of weak links. You, or rather your attitude is what gave us roger douglas and his cadre of self legitimising criminals which has sunk us into this quagmire of lies and exploitation. You and your rich exploitative mates have literally run our AO/NZ aground.
      Farmers and @ Maori should be a union then they should strike until we’re deloused of the mafia-like criminal elite exploiting them and us.

  3. Well my stuck record comment for the next couple of years is…
    • Elect a class left leadership for the NZCTU and run regular regional delegates and members meetings–and–invite non members and families as appropriate for a community organising focus, conduct a major organising drive to extend union density
    • Reform a united NZ Communist Party for all those with a marxist world view to become the pointy end of the spear and work with other activists and radicals
    • Support others in your community, whether it be Pātaka Kai (food pantries), childcare, shared transport, working bees etc.

    Legal challenges of the CoC Govt. need to be backed up with direct action. Health sector unions should drop their territorial approach to unite and fight. The PSA needs to discard their “Partnership/Tripartism” political neutrality model–it should be obvious by now this is a union busting Govt. they want nothing less than to destroy organised labour so a strong push back is needed not weasel words.

    • Exactly. Farmers @ 2-3 % of AO/NZ’s population. Maori @ 17 % but no money, mana or unity between the both of you although I must say @ Maori are light years ahead of non Maori in sticking together. 3132 fat rich cunts have vast wealth and they’ll be in a sweaty bed wriggling around with the four now australian owned banks. Did any of the AO/NZ unions enable that unholy coupling? No, is the fucking answer I think.
      3132 is 0.060% of our population. Do you see where I’m going with this?
