National’s Angry Speech vs Green’s Visionary Speech vs Labour’s Incremental Speech

1 weekend, 3 political parties, 4 speeches.

Each give an insight as to how Labour, National and Greens view the world around us and gives glimpses of where they each see votes coming.

National’s Angry Speech

The misplaced anger at Labour to justify his venomous attack sounds desperate from a Leader as weak as Luxon is.

The slump in polling has been caused by voters recoiling in horror at the venal self interest of National taking from the poor to give to the richest.

All National have is a blame game against Labour to justify all the damage they’ve embarked upon, which is fine for angry rednecks but that electorate is limited and being split between Winston and David Seymour.

Luxon is fishing for votes in a crowded reactionary cracker pool.

There are only so many angry crackers to go around for the Right.

The danger of making a speech as angry as this is that it continues to chase away the centre who only see froth and spittle rather than actual solutions to their problems.

Blaming Labour when it’s National Party policy that is turning voters away is a totally missed opportunity.

They are being led by their social media team who are wanting inflammatory rhetoric rather than actual policy because inflammatory rhetoric generates more clickbait.

This was a TikTok speech when the electorate wanted a Statesman.

Green’s Visionary Speech

It really does say something that the youngest leader manages a speech that correctly identifies how the inequalities of late stage capitalism are impacting us now alongside the climate change crisis.

Chloe is the leader we wished Jacinda could have been.

Her speech had vision and connects the immediate while identifying the root cause of neoliberal corruption.

She rams home that poverty is a political choice (which it is) and highlights the manner in which the Right have manipulated the process to ram these changes through with zero oversight.

This quote hammers home why her speech is so powerful…

The reason that the system feels like it’s rigged is because it is

…that line alone sums up the moral and ethical urgency for change and why Chloe is the leader to do it.

Marama gives the best speech of her entire political career. Chloe offered hope while Marama  articulated righteous disdain at the venal interests on the Right. She reiterated the means with which the wealthy bought the last election and the damage this is causing everyone.

This leadership team looked far stronger than anything else in NZ Politics right now. Two leaders able to articulate an authentic vision that actually highlights the real problems confronting us now.

This was the Greens at their best

Chippy’s Incremental Speech

Who ever wrote Chippy’s weak mustard conference speech deserves to be shot in the face so they can’t have an open casket funeral.

We have waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited for Chippy to show some insight into how Labour’s cowardly incrementalism  and spineless acquiescence to the neoliberal economic hegemony over 6 years won no one over!

Instead, we get a 2200 word salad on fluff about how NuZilind will be in 20-fucking-40???

Oh Fuck Right Off!

Labour’s 2040 Utopia is as pointless as James Shaw’s Carbon Neutral by 2050!

By 2050 the Planet will have melted making carbon neutrality a moot point, people are hurting now and all Chippy has is ‘hold on until 2040’ as a solution?

As for the reheated ideas and blah blah value added blah blah bureaucratic reshuffle of the decks blah blah technology blah blah, it’s all just noise with no destination.

It’s such a crap speech with no actual substance and it really does look like Labour are simply going to coast to the next election with no policy, no vision and no plan on how to make that vision real.

It’s the same bullshit incrementalism it always is with Labour.

Conclusion:

No one under 40 will vote Labour again and will vote Green instead, only angry white settler nation will vote National and Chloe managed to sound more engaged and understanding of the issues than 2 men 15 years polders than her.

Social media algorithms aimed at hating Jacinda probably wrote Luxon’s speech.

James Shaw probably wrote Chippy’s speech.

Chloe wrote Chloe’s speech.

Labour urgently need a new speech writer.

National see the future of political engagement as open conflict that they are prepared to flame.

Labour don’t want any political engagement so have put everything off until 2040.

Greens see climate change happening now and that the economic pain demands immediate solutions.

National blames Labour.

Labour says they’ll get back to us in 16 years.

Greens point out the neoliberal system that Labour and National have both benefited from are the problem.

National offer misplaced anger at Labour. Labour offer an answer in 16 years while the Greens offer solutions now.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

  1. That vacuous jerk Luxon doesn’t do angry. He just got the memo, that’s all. He’d invade the girls’ loos if they told him to, or pose in his pyjamas.

  2. National has been angry for years, ever since Muldoon’s day. Angry and dissatisfied. Never consider themselves as part ‘the people’. Just there, aloof from the people, to boss us around and impose their meanness and ‘we know best’ attitude on everything. Their smug superiority became very slimy under Shipley and Key and definitely looks ineffectual weakness with Luxon.
They are cross with ACT and Winny-First mainly although they won’t admit it to themselves.
Luxon thought it would be easy being a prime minister, nothing compared to running a very small airline, with a shiny knighthood at the end of it.
I love seeing him trip over his own slimy tongue, he doesn’t know when to shut up.

But, I too, reserve much of my annoyance for Labour for being so insipid. Wanting a bob each way.
No, Earth can’t wait, things are happening too fast for that.
Otherwise, we are all on the high-jump to oblivion, including the Atlas network. They can’t escape, any more than we can. I hope they are happy to clean their own toilets.

    • Muldoon actually built infrastructure and did positive stuff like getting the gangs into work.

Is it better to be angry and effective like Muldoon than whiny and ineffective like modern Labour? Pretty irrelevant when both parties are following demonic neoliberal policies.

      • Yes, he did but he wasn’t someone you’d really admire.
Hipkins is definitely not worth admiring.

        • Muldoon was personally terrible, except he saw unemployment as his problem to fix by making work. He wasn’t like the post84 brigades and brigands who blamed those without bootstraps as the makers of their lack of fortune.

Trump personally terrible, but he made No War and had the highest US employment rate in a generation.

  3. Me thinks Luxon is getting desperate because he hasn’t met his KPI’s, we know what happens in the real business world for these people they either resign or get sacked. Is Luxon thinks he’s running NZ as a business let him face the consequences .

  4. Luxon clearly unhappy that he is a dick and everyone knows it.Just because a few dumb fucks turn up and give him a clap because he has no policy and they dont want him doing anything so they can continue to fleece the remaining $10 from the corner beggar ,does not mean he is doing a good job .When he passes the good lord will deal to him big time and the kids will squanda his cash if the church has not taken it before then .

  5. Labour are screwed fullstop. National and the right are out the backdoor.

Labour are a party like a flounder flopped on dry land with no where to go.

    Green in 24 or 26.

Labour betrayed the working class in 2020.

    Never to be trusted again.

News hub are going out with a bang and published the Greens speeches which I never expected.

    • Labour betrayed the working class in 1984. And they’ve done it every time they been in government since then.

  6. Correction: Labour urgently need a new LEADER not speech writer. And new policies. Like you said they can fuck right off right now with what they are offering.

    • LC, I agree and not only that, with a new leader and this horrid and corrupt National government, Labour are a shoe in next election. NZ voters won’t make the same mistake twice voting National back in.

  7. Can’t help thinking – honour quick squiz of the national/act/NZ first offerings by way of ministers and what have you – they seem to be mental midgets. Winston is as cunning as a shithouse rat and knows where all the bodies are buried, but that’s about as far as intellect goes with them. Not as bad as Trump of course but that’s a pretty damned low bar.

  8. “No one under 40 will vote Labour again and will vote Green instead…”
Just a matter of time then, on this reckoning.

“… only angry white settler nation will vote National…”
Well … not so sure about this. The assertion discounts the conservatism of many new immigrants (those eligible to vote), and possibly a good many of their children as they reach voting age.

    • “Well … not so sure about this. The assertion discounts the conservatism of many new immigrants (those eligible to vote), and possibly a good many of their children as they reach voting age.” Great point here Bozo.

    • not so sure about that – a lot of kids have a wtf moment at intermediate age and realize their parents are full of shit.

  10. George writes revealing the real essence of Chippy’s speech and labour’s vision:

“…Through the endless promise of jam tomorrow. If we keep working harder, one day we’ll pay for the public services we need; one day we’ll earn the economic security we crave; one day we’ll have more leisure time. Will this magic day ever arrive? Of course not. Strong public services and economic security were never part of the plan. But to have us working ever-longer hours on behalf of capital? That is very much part of the plan…”

“THE DAY THAT NEVER COMES” by George Monboit

    • Like Animal Farm by George Orwell:
      https://www.sparknotes.com/lit/animalfarm/characters/
      Boxer
The cart-horse whose incredible strength, dedication, and loyalty play a key role in the early prosperity of Animal Farm and the later completion of the windmill. Quick to help but rather slow-witted, Boxer shows much devotion to Animal Farm’s ideals but little ability to think about them independently. He naïvely trusts the pigs to make all his decisions for him. His two mottoes are “I will work harder” and “Napoleon is always right.”

  11. Happens every time with National governments. They take us to third world status. – then have the temerity to blame Labour or the Left … vacuous.

  12. Song for Labour:
Inchworm from Danny Kaye (this time not funny) –
    -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CxBX7KwyKI
‘You and your arithmetic you’ll probably go far.’

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inchworm_(song)
The song’s lyrics express a carpe diem [seize the day] sentiment, with the singer noting that the inchworm of the title has a “business-like mind”, and is blind to the beauty of the flowers it encounters:
    Two and two are four
    Four and four are eight
That’s all you have on your business-like mind
    Two and two are four
    Four and four are eight
How can you be so blind?

Subsequent verses include the lines “Measuring the marigolds, you and your arithmetic / You’ll probably go far” and “Seems to me you’d stop and see / How beautiful they are”…
…David Bowie said the song was the inspiration behind his 1980 song “Ashes to Ashes”:
Ashes To Ashes wouldn’t have happened if it hadn’t have been for Inchworm. There’s a nursery rhyme element in it, and there’s something so sad and mournful and poignant about it. It kept bringing me back to the feelings of those pure thoughts of sadness that you have as a child, and how they’re so identifiable even when you’re an adult…

  13. Well well look what we have here John Key being sued for inside a trading.
The right wing have always been financially corrupt.

  14. Did Luxon’s speech incorporate the rebate to property owners and investors…

Most National MPs own several homes. Luxon owns seven, while House Speaker Gerry Brownlee owns five.

Andrew Bayley has a large portfolio with a family home in Bombay, a farm in Auckland, a share of a house in Waikato, a Coromandel apartment, a share of a Wellington apartment, commercial property in Pukekohe and residential property in Onehunga, Auckland, all in a trust. He also has a share of residential property in Queenstown through Paparimu Land Limited.

Barbara Kuriger also registered three dairy farms, two family homes and an apartment.
