Just as TDB predicted! National will flog NZ houses to foreign buyers!

National have now admitted they will remove the foreign buyers ban, their true venal values are exposed.

After receiving millions in donations from the Real Estate Pimps , National will allow foreign millionaires to speculate in NZs domestic market.

Once done, we will never be able to ban foreign speculators again.

There are already huge questions over National’s plan with many saying it will never generate the revenue National are claiming.

This bullshit ‘squeezed middle’ tax cut is really a rich Landlord subsidy!

These tax cuts which for most people will be $10 to $25 per week are being funded by slashing spending on early child education, environmental funding and public transport. It’s like a double punch while being told it’s in your interests!

National (who receive millions in donations from Real Estate Pimps) have done exactly what I argued they would do, remove the foreign buyers ban to generate external demand for the housing market which means the Real Estate Pimps win while first time home buyers here in NZ lose out in a market already fundamentally distorted.

We have the lowest rate of home ownership in 70 years, millions spent each day on kettling beneficiaries into unsafe motels and 100 000 homeless. Renters are being screwed over while the Landlord class grease the political wheels and get their interests sorted above ours.

No wonder Luxon is so keen to borrow Chinese money to build here, he is opening NZ up to economic leverage by a geopolitical threat all so rich landlords can feel rich again?

How the Christ is this a solution to the problems we have?

It’s a fucking blueprint for unrestricted privilege!

This isn’t a Tax Policy, it’s venal selfishness masquerading as the squeezed middle.

  1. The connection between the National party, big real estate donations and policies designed for paybacks to those big donors is simple corruption. Then of course there is the big donor trucking companies and National increasing the tonnage capacity of those trucks, corruption.

      • Rents also follow wage growth. At the end of the day a lot of these landlords put rent up because they can. Full stop.

And it is f’ing ridiculous that there is no CGT. Let’s face it, there kind of always has been but the dishonesty of many means their real reason for buying selling is always for anything but capital gain.BS. Then we have Nicola Willis saying the brightline test is an effective CGT due to the length of it. Great! But no National are completely wed to putting a huge amount of the tax burden on people who actually work. Then they have the gall to say the ev subsidy helps those that don’t need help. Newsflash, multiple property owners don’t need help either.

  2. So Michael Woods was hounded for owning a few shares in Air NZ but “7houses Landlord Luxon” can accept real estate agent bribes and propose policy to directly increase his own wealth. Why am I not actually surprised.

    • A voice of reason .Peter and others seem to forget Luxon gave up a role earning $3 million a year to take on this role as PM in waiting . If money was his only drive he would have stayed where he was .If he fails to win he will go back to a CEO role again earning millions .I wonder what job Hipkins could get if he is voted out .

  3. The foreign buyers ban comes in for property over 2 million. Not sure that this is the main priority anymore for many voters, with the amount of violence going on in NZ.

Seems like plenty of crims don’t have any problems climbing the property ladder in NZ.

No doubt the penalty of home detention or a few years in jail and big reductions in sentencing for cultural reports and drug users and smugglers, is working out really well for the victims so they can get back on the streets! Sarcasm.

    • Yes SaveNZ but how many properties will now be listed at 2mil plus? A whole lot more than there would be if this policy didn’t exist.

      • Do you think astute buyers will pay 2 million for a property that is only actually worth say 1 million or 1.5 million? They will get their own valuation done of course that will be a realistic reflection of the price of the property.

I could list my property for 10 million. Does not mean I will get anywhere near that.

        • You clearly haven’t been to many auctions in Auckland then. I have said in other posts that any property north of say 1.6 mil could very likely be bumped to 2 mil so you reach more buyers. That’s not unrealistic. I am not talking about taking a 1mil valuation and asking for 10mil

    • It’s clear, given all the examples you highlight that Labours extra police numbers have worked. All those convictions. It’s also clear that the under funding of Police during the Rockstar economy had failed us alongside health and education.

  4. Meanwhile with all the violence for the average folks in NZ, James Shaw is worried about racist language to female brown MP’s.

No apparent worries about racist remarks claiming that cis men are responsible for all violence in the world nor is there any condemnation for a man punching out an elderly woman and fracturing her face at Speak UP for Woman protest while others with violent and voiding right to free speech in NZ seem to be allowed to flee the country.

  5. It will be the beginning of end of the remaining skerrick of N.Z we once knew a short 40 years ago, and not only will it not solve anything, but instead, create massive uncertainty as to how future generations will think about having children.

    No affordable nest…no children.
Too hard…..not worth the life of impoverished drudgery.
    It’s a simple equation!

The wealthy Chinese will buy up all available stock and then buy up the cheaper stock to house their children, who will then be able to afford to have families.

It’ll be a shutout for anyone born and bred and earning money under the New Zealand system unless they are the children of the rich and privileged.
Alot of that money coming through intergenerational inheritance and not particularly from any kind of hard work as they often like to pretend to every and anybody.

This election will be a significant defining moment in New Zealand’s history!

  6. It won’t generate ANY revenue for the country unless National crash the market and we get to keep the loses the overseas investors suffer.
Otherwise it will only create a net drain on the economy, investors aren’t doing it out of altruism, they’ll expect to remove the profits back overseas. The NZ citizen financing their gains.
