MEDIAWATCH: TWITTER censorship shuts down Daily Blog account 6 weeks out from election

Our Twitter Account TheDailyBlogNZ has been locked down after a complaint was made and despite numerous attempts to contact Twitter to resolve it, we are still shut down.

It’s ironic because they recently posted their commitment to fair elections…

…whether you agree with TDB or not, shutting his down 6 weeks out from the general election kinda flies in the face of that assertion.

  1. Outrageous. PM Ardern did advocate for global censorship of free speech to the UNO, and every political leader in New Zealand must state their position re freedom of speech pronto if they expect to be taken seriously by the people who they purport to represent.

    • Snow White you really can’t help yourself can you. There is free speech and hate speech. This was after Christchurch as I recall. Twitter has got absolutely nothing to do with Jacinda Ardern. It appears Twitter is supporting free speech from only the right, so even you must realize whose mitts are all over this. Remember free speech is only free speech when David Seymour and his ilk. says it is.

    • Jase kind of like how they accuse Biden of being totally senile if he so much as misspeaks, but Mitch McConnell can literally stop talking for excruciating periods of time in press conferences and it’s no problem. Don’t get me wrong Biden is shaky and yes he is President but the senate minority leader is literally gone.

    Go figure, Free speech for the right and Far Right but not for the Left.

    This right wing bias against the Daily Blog by Twitter, needs to be objected to at the highest levels. This ban is interference in this country’s election coverage and our democratic process.
    I call on all our political aspirants and legacy media journalists and all free speech advocates to demand that Twitter reverse this ban.

    Your silence on this matter will not be forgiven or forgotten.

  13. You probably got automatically blocked/suspended, just give it a day or two for an actual human to review your account.

    Also consider; the review team are based in America and are therefore in a different time zone. I’d suggest checking your account tomorrow morning.

    Twitter have hundreds of millions of users – clam the farm.

  14. Solidarity to TDB, this is gross abuse of Twitter’s power. But unfortunately all these US digital platforms are tools of US Empire. Hoping you are restored soon.

  15. I hope you’ve got a fediverse account, so you can continue posting into a social media network that isn’t controlled by one corporation. I’m pretty sure mastodon.nz or firefish.nz would welcome TBD accounts.

    But the ideal solution would be to host your own server, eg social.thedailyblog.co.nz. That way you could have official accounts for TBD itself (eg @news@social.thedailyblog.co.nz) and for each of the bloggers who write for it (eg @bomber@social.thedailyblog.co.nz). All on one server, and obviously official, because you’re using the same domain name.

  16. Having been banned/blocked from Twitter and facebook years ago, simultaneously on the same day, I have some sympathy for TDB…. I never even made one post/tweet on twitter, and had posted nothing controversial on facebook ,,,, I presume my banning was in retaliation for anti-zionist posts I had made here at TDB ,,,, and similar sentiments posted by Authors here at TDB could have already lead to complaints being made to twitter/X, adding to the case/weight for the present censoring/cancelling that has eventuated.

    The demise or even outlawing of free speech is accelerating ,,,, the tribal left and right finger point at each other but both are more than keen to stomp on speech that challenges their narrative,, some of whom have posted in this thread.

    All I’ll add is that those who claim to be doing so to fight dis-information ,,,, to do so without speaking out for the release and cessation of the persecution of Julian Assange (a teller/revealer of truth) shows them up to be bull-shitters and hypocrites..

    That’s where we are right now.

  17. Censorship is all about protecting the interests of the powerful. Censorship is not a Left or Right thang, although the powerful love the fact that we think it is because of course, we focusing in on ourselves, people of the Left v people on the Right instead of we, as a unified force, focusing in on them, allows them, the powerful to get away with blue murder. It is in our interests to see the forest from the tress.

  18. From the day it was launched I’ve regarded twitter as a platform for the brain dead and ego massagers and have avoided it at all cost.
    Nothing worthwhile can be debated in 140 characters or whatever.
    I’ve been routinely appalled that news organisations and some otherwise serious people direct any traffic toward it at all.

    The sooner that cretin Musk runs it into the ground the better.

  19. Hence why i am voting NZF, they are the only party to promise freedom of speech. NATS and Act have dipped their toes in the water (ACT more so and I believe are somewhat sincere) but I doubt they are committed in any concrete way if push comes to shove.

    Bomber, Lab & Greens will not safeguard your right to Free Speech. Twitter will be the least of your worries if the Left returns to power and I dont trust the Nats/ACT not to keep Labours plans in place for limiting free speech and use them to their advantage if they get in. As I see it, its NZF or nothing if free speech and democracy is a bottom line.

  20. I left Twitter a few days ago. Not for the politics but for the full-on personal abuse they allow, and the tendency for people to show their worst sides. Hardly ever engaged in any discussion on there which was remotely constructive.
