Announce protest actions, general chit chat or give your opinion on issues we haven’t covered for the day.

The Editor doesn’t moderate this blog,  3 volunteers do, they are very lenient to provide you a free speech space but if it’s just deranged abuse or putting words in bloggers mouths to have a pointless argument, we don’t bother publishing.

EDITORS NOTE: – By the way, here’s a list of shit that will get your comment dumped. Sexist language, homophobic language, racist language, anti-muslim hate, transphobic language, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world  and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

“Voters don’t need to wait for a right-leaning government. Hipkins is already running one”

Can Labour not see the problem. Why would voters want to vote for this sad and out of touch Labour lot if there is ‘no difference’?

  2. Socratic method of education for alert, thinking, onto-it, self seekers of knowledge and able to enunciate their ideas and debate them. That would cause a huge change in our country and lead to young people with smarts and overview being able to go forward in what’s left of our society and civilisation.

That’s my thought – hypothesis? Now I’ll get some background to see if there is any thing in it.
The Socratic Method involves a shared dialogue between teacher and students. The teacher leads by posing thought-provoking questions. Students actively engage by asking questions of their own. The discussion goes back and forth.

That’s to get the idea rolling – might get it snowballing by taking it further and finding out more about it and its potential. Wiil be doing this over next weeks. An educationalist whose head isn’t off in flighty ideas might like to put up something. First of course they would be questioning what I mean by flighty ideas – first discussion!

  3. New Zealand’s millionaires pay lower tax rates than cashiers – it’s time to fix the system
    Max Rashbrooke

The report shows that New Zealand’s 311 wealthiest families pay just 8.9% of their income in tax – less than the rate paid by a minimum wage worker (10.5%) and less than half the rate paid by the average Kiwi (19.7%).

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/apr/27/new-zealands-millionaires-pay-lower-tax-rates-than-cashiers-its-time-to-fix-the-system#:~:text=The%20report%20shows%20that%20New,the%20average%20Kiwi%20(19.7%25).

The Hipkins Labour government reverting to its trickle down theory neoliberal (Roger Douglas) past, has refused to address the injustice in our tax system.
When the Public Health system and the Cyclone Gabrielle recovery are being starved of funding, tax injustice is likely to cost the Labour Party the election, handing the country to the most right wing administration in a generation.

  4. 25-year contract
    https://thedailyblog.co.nz/2023/08/17/nationals-ppps-go-overseas-to-roost/
…“The British firm will now be in charge of funding services to Auckland Prison at Paremoremo, five Auckland schools, one in Hamilton, four in Christchurch, one in Queenstown as well as AUT’s North Campus student accommodation on the North Shore. Hobsonville Point Primary School, Hobsonville Point Secondary School, Ormiston Junior College, Te Uho o te Nikau at Flat Bush, north-west Auckland’s Matua Ngaru Primary School, Hamilton’s Te Ao Marama School, Christchurch’s Shirley Boys’ High School and adjoining Avonside Girls’ High School, its Haeata Community Campus, Rolleston College and Queenstown’s Wakatipu High School are the 11 education assets involved”.

“It’s not the land or buildings being sold but rather service provision funding, so the British entity will take over running aspects like cleaning, maintenance and building management, contracted to the Government to provide those services under the public-private partnership model. In turn, that British business will then contract out those services to third-party local providers”.

There are plenty of horror stories from PPPs overseas and plenty of warnings – even from the World Bank. (!!!)

Aside from everything else – here we have private sector parasites hoisted onto our community as a typical leech – bleeding us dry over a 25-year contract. The only “value” is that it keeps the debt off the government’s books…

Line up for the latest fashion in governments – the sleek, body-fitting look, crease-resistant with extra long legs for running away from problems. Comes with a hide-away service cupboard-cooler carrying all the beverages you with, all at your fingertips with no annoying hunting and scraping work required. Why should you do your own work getting hot and tired while you have this opportunity to contract these very experienced rorters with their superior ways from overseas.

  5. The gravy train at the top is about to be drained from the plughole at the bottom before the precious reaches the sink hole and disappears. And this is going to be repeated all over government, so anyone of good moral character had better get out before they join the types whose name is mud. ($40,000 does not sound a lot to those who are talking up million$s and billions also, but it buys a lot of useful things to spread around.)

  6. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/world/496151/rich-men-north-of-richmond-the-hit-song-that-has-divided-the-us
…In the culture wars that continue to divide US politics, the right wing may have found its latest hero in Oliver Anthony, whether he likes it or not. Last week, Anthony’s song ‘Rich Men North of Richmond,’ which criticises Washington and big government, dropped on a West Virginia radio station’s YouTube channel and the unknown singer-songwriter became a viral sensation with more than two million views over two days and more than 20 million so far…

…It wasn’t just the working-class “you” he was addressing who paid attention though. Within days, right-wing politicians were championing the song, which neatly fits some conservative narratives, criticising government overtaxing and those on welfare.
