Sexist language, homophobic language, racist language, anti-muslim hate, transphobic language, Chemtrails, 9/11 truthers, Qanon lunacy, climate deniers, anti-fluoride fanatics, anti-vaxxer lunatics, 5G conspiracy theories, the virus is a bioweapon, some weird bullshit about the UN taking over the world and ANYONE that links to fucking infowar.

Unpaid taxes. The IRritated department could try a new tack. Many of us feel so isolated and misunderstood and appreciated that a grateful tone could pay dividends. A smiley face on the message or envelope and inside a few words of gratitude:
Thank you for this. We depend on people like you who pay regularly as assessed and keep the country running and services provided. We know times are tough and we do try to get everyone to pay their fair tax but appreciate reliable citizens like you who don’t need reminding and keep the country running.
Of course it might have an unexpected outcome. Lonely, ignored people could get such a burst of warmth and positivity – ‘Oh look another message/envelope from the IR Dept with a smiley face, a rata bloom, or a dear little fantail’ – that it would be worth delaying paying just to get another letter and know that someone loves us and wants to know us! But for fast payers why not send out vouchers for something universally NZ that people would generally enjoy with huge discounts or a range of special offers from NZ/AO entrepreneurs. Encourage people to appreciate the government and its systems that serve us?!
Query – can certain people in Far North be turned round from present ways and care – for kiwi and environment and land that is returned to iwi?

Can’t manage any dogs they may have around them?
This part of the country needs more support of a practical nature rather than just money in hand and return of land, and business and finance pakeha training? Has Labour done much for Northland? Has National shown much interest apart from digging for bog kauri and probably disrupting a fuel line from the (now closed) refinery and stopping supply of aviation fuel and flights?

4 Tīhe 2022 — The Kaimaumau fire, also known as the Waiharara fire after a nearby settlement, ripped through 2800ha of a protected wetland and twice

She [Aroha Hughes of the Department of Conservation] told Stuff that the fire is expected to burn beneath the peat for another six months and it is likely to take a 10-year restoration plan to bring new life and health into the area.
There have been several flare-ups over the past month where a slight change in weather has created an environment that the fire has found favourable to reignite, whether it was strong winds or hot weather. What has been promising, is the sign of vibrant new life throughout the wetlands beginning to take shape.
Restoration of wetlands and damaged sites is not the only focus, but the restoration of mauri within Kaimaumau itself.
There are a lot of sacred sites in the area such as burial grounds. In particular, there is a site of significance where mass burials took place during the Spanish Flu epidemic in the 1800s.
Shane Jones, former MP and local Te Tai Tokerau historian, told The Herald that Motutangi is the sacred site where the local hapū experienced a pandemic in the 1830s. Many lives were lost at this site and Motutangi is the site where the survivors retreated from.

and In a case that outraged residents on the north side of Kerikeri Inlet in 2018, a row of pōhutukawa trees was poisoned on a beachside reserve at Opito Bay.
It was found herbicide had been poured into holes drilled into the base of each tree.
It is believed police identified a suspect but did not have enough evidence to prosecute.
The pōhutukawa recovered after a treatment applied by a Kerikeri arborist.
Mayor Brown and the Underground. Good title eh. This looks interesting.

I liked the old ferries myself – Kestrel? Reliable. Big open space middle of deck and you could look down and see all the machinery, there were brass things going up and down and an oily smell and a feeling of reliability and purpose . What we need as symbols for NZ eh!
But why not use ferries for cheap and the bridge for carting stuff and taxis – serving business and if they registered they would get special rates. But would have to be carrying merchantable material – taxis included, others go on buses that cross cheaply and pick up and let down near ends of bridge perhaps. Be flexible and imaginative FGS. Cut down on bridge traffic that is non-business service. Important personnel could pick up a 4-people jet pack transport for fast crossings – no frills, only weather protection. No licensing of private services.

Pathetic effort by RNZ. Not helpful showing pics of Phillips without his beard, his appearance could be completely different now. They can’t be bothered to get updated pics from other source, one of the newspapers has different pics. Or perhaps they just using him and his youngsters as fill-ins on a dull day?
