And it begins.
To date the Right wing vulture punditry (with the exception of Damien Grant who has critiqued Luxon numerous times with all the patience of hungry piranhas), have pulled their punches regarding Luxon, but as the polls stubbornly predict a hung Parliament, the wealthy backers of the Right are putting everything on the table, including a late change of leadership.
Kiri Allen getting $1500 from Meng Foon has eclipsed the far bigger issue of the wealthy attempting to buy this election.
The nightmare scenario within the mega wealthy is that a Labour/Green/Māori Party Government is formed and does something serious about inequality in this country.
Those interests are already looking at yesterdays tax reveal and gulped as their privilege and wealth are exposed to an angry electorate.
The Rights drive to win knows no boundaries.
We are seeing large donors going to NZ First now Shane Jones has announced in Northland and could be offered a cup of Tea Epsom deal that would guarantee NZ First MPs coat tailed in.
We are seeing enormous wealth being donated by NZs richest elites to the right…

…and yesterday we saw King of the Nazgûl’s, Richard Prebble, seeding the path to replacing Luxon…
Until Luxon rejects the counsel of his realpolitik advisers and goes with his instincts, the two Christophers will be Labour’s greatest electoral assets.
…for a right wing vampire like Richard Prebble to start undermining Luxon now means the hard right who are terrified of an actual Left wing Government are ensuring they have every possible option on the table come election day.
Huge donations, deals in Northland and the sudden replacement of Luxon by Nicola Willis.
There is an enormous political class battle happening right now in NZ, and we are missing it because the media want to focus on the Human Rights Commissioner donating $1500 to Kiri Allan that in now way shape or form influenced him or influenced her!
The Right’s backers are prepared to do anything to win, that should wake the Left up.
Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.
If you can’t contribute but want to help, please always feel free to share our blogs on social media

Richard Prebble’s voice isn’t the greatest asset on the political horizon. Last time I heard it in person was with his bad-tempered outburst towards an older woman in a church hall in Willis Street, Wellington. Pity they never sold him off, but I daresay they wouldn’t have got much for him anyway.
Luxon is currently an asset to Labour but nearly 4 months into the Hipkins government tells me National may as well bide their time.
Under the new broom sweeps clean Chippy version that I suspect was to convince us all is forgiven – I ain’t Cindy, what has really changed?
3 Waters Mk2. Worse than before with McAnulty telling us one person one vote formerly known as this crazy thing “democracy” has ended under Labour, for some very specious reasoning that only McNulty can understand.
Tax the shit out of fuel plus double the bus fares. Cost of Living Crisis? Bread and butter issues? Nah, that’s so January 2023. Robertson has never run a car to go to work, has he!
Lower speed limits on 1% of highways? No one told Waka Kotahe.
Lawlessness, same shit, different police minister.
Health reforms are a mess.
The list goes on but in short, Chippy is just like his predecessor, all talk. I admit it was bloody hopeful thinking to think things could really change, it’s the same doofus’s and manipulating back roomers it ever was.
And advertising a Labour, Greens, Te Pati Maori is horrifying. Dysfunction and incompetence all rolled into one.
Actually the opposite to everything you say is true and just to add, no one needs to destabilize Luxons campaign, he’s doing fine all by himself. Even though his whole party is a shambles, the dregs left over after the past two elections.
At this stage Labour are a shoe in.
Advertising an Act, National coalition will send 100s of thousands to Australia if the dumb and dumber Nact coalition win the next election.
Agree with you on your comments on Luxons and the Nats ineptitude but I think the brain drain will increase under Labour.
What will be different is that skilled people will particularly leave under Labour. Those who are conservative and skilled will leave. Most people want to live under a democracy and most want to earn the best they can for their skills and the gap is huge now in earning power.
However, the left wing members of the PMC, especially those working for or attached to the Govt will go under the right (if they can – there are rules in Australia about who can get government work) because there will be much less call for their skills (Consultants, Policy Wonks and Comms people). In addition, we will see the working poor drift across as life IN NZ will get even harder. Probably lose even unskilled workers to Australia.
Who knows what what will happen to beneficiaries? End up getting a job in Australia rather than starve under the Nats? Maybe those that can will get a job in NZ under the Nats? But as always the very poor and those not work capable will basically get starved out.
The man does protest to much .
Luxon is not another John Key or Jacinda but he is a leader with a good team behind him and will make a good PM all going well..To replace him at this stage would be a disaster and National knows it and Labour hope for it to happen .
Winston may despise his Maori side but he practices UTU very well so I cannot see him going with Labour after the last time .
Good team you say Trev who is the good team you are referring to when you reinstate someone like judeath it says you haven’t got much else.
We won’t get a left wing govt in. We will get a woke a f..k govt. they will have a lot of power because they will likely bring in hate speech laws, they will push down hard on gender ideology. Te pati Maori was to abolish prisons ( I mean come on this shows how naive they f…king are).
The rich and clever eg (Drs and nurses) will f..k off in great numbers and make the country even poorer.
Please good no!
Luxon count just say he has been given a corporate job to good to refuse. And hand the reins over to Nicola. With Shane Reti as deputy.
The electroate would be ok with that. Little handed over to Jacinda only a few weeks out from election.
Marco, I agree Reti should be in there but I am somewhat dubious about Nicola Willis’s capabilities. She is a reasonably good orator and has a degree in English and PG Dip in Journalism.
I am not convinced she is all that in Finance and having read a few quotes from her and something she had written, I was very surprised to find that she is a degree qualified English Major (2003). OTOH, she was a policy adviser to English and Key before catapulting into senior management in Fonterra before emerging as an MP.
She may be good as she has clearly been groomed by the Nats but her background is too much Ardern and Chippie for me to have much confidence. Having said that I think Reti’s intellect and potential contribution is significant if they would listen to him although he isnt a leader of men.
There are two ways of choosing whether to vote for this lot or the “next” lot.
The first way is to pick the best team on offer.
The second way is to consider the government of the day, and whether you want to keep giving them a chance to rule. or whether they need a chance to refresh and regroup in opposition.
I roll with choice two, so for me it is always an election for the Government to lose.
This government has bene very kind to me, but I really do worry about how the poor are doing it tough, and how little the government has done to help them. Education standards falling off the cliff, health in a crisis, an additional 31 billion a year spent on average across the last five years, unpopular anti-democratic policies… And still they wish to be aspirational.
Are you a type one or type two decision maker?
This would be a good time for an asteroid.
