Waatea News Column: Latest Polls call for a Māori Party/Green Party Election Summit

The latest TVNZ Poll follows the Roy Morgan and Curia Poll showing the Māori Party and Greens will be needed for Labour to form the next Government.

With food inflation hitting 12% last month and further economic global turmoil from Banks, people will feel their week to week material lives are going backwards.

Chippy has strategically burnt off any policy Labour thinks might trip them up in the race to the election, and while that’s fine strategy for winning, what happens to those who need a progressive Government?

The Māori Party and the Greens should host a Election Summit Hui where they pledge to work together and present Labour with a united front and list of bottom line policies Labour would need to adopt and pass within the first 100 days if they want Green/Māori Party supply and confidence.

If we want Transformative change we are going to have to strategically plan for it ourselves and the Greens and Māori Party as a unified front demanding baseline policy wins that make a material difference in people’s lives within 100 days of a Labour Government being sworn in is a means to ensure the many not the few are represented beyond this year’s election.

  1. The Greens might need to give the Transnational Capital Party its immigration policy back for that to happen. Don’t hold your breath 😉

  2. Yeah, that summit would work — both parties dislike each other for good reason, for example,
Greens: “take that land, it has outstanding conservation value”,
Maori Party: “That’s Maori land, go away”
    Greens: “Tough luck”
    Maori Party: “piss off”

  3. Yes I too like the idea of a Greens/Maaori Party summit. Get them all in the same room, and give Putin the coordinates 🙂

  4. If such a conference happens it will drive voters to the Nat/ACTs. Yes Maori and the Greens could work together. To announce that publicly is political suicide.

  5. standalonecomplex – Let’s see…Te Urewera/Tongariro/ Mt Cook/Fiordland/Westland National Parks – all Maori land taken from them by the Government…the Greens are okay with that.
