This is a media advisory: Please feel free to share with colleagues in your newsrooms.

After a successful Auckland mayoral debate earlier this year, the Taxpayers’ Union and The Working Group podcast are again teaming up to host a candidates’ debate ahead of the Hamilton West by-election.

The debate will be held on Monday, 5th December in the Waikato Rooms 1-2 at SkyCity Hamilton, 346 Victoria Street, Hamilton, 3204.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. with the results of an exclusive Taxpayers’ Union | The Working Group – Curia poll of Hamilton West residents on how they intend to vote and what issues matter most to them.

This will be followed by the debate itself at 7.30 p.m., which will be hosted by The Working Group’s Martyn ‘Bomber’ Bradbury and Damien Grant. The following candidates have been invited and have confirmed their attendance:

  • DANSEY, Georgie (Labour)
  • McDOWALL, James (ACT)
  • POCOCK, Naomi (TOP)
  • POTAKA, Tama (National)
  • SHARMA, Gaurav (Momentum)

The debate will also be streamed live online on The Daily Blog (www.thedailyblog.co.nz) and Taxpayers’ Union website (www.taxpayers.org.nz) as well as being available to watch back after the event.

  1. Sharma will win the by-election. When he WINS, Hamilton West election in the 2023, he’ll bring in several list MP’s and he’ll decide who is allowed to govern. Sharma will have the great pleasure of kicking Witchcinda Labour party to the curve!

  2. Do you think the city centre venue choice on the very outside border of Hamilton West, in the CBD is prohibitive to representation of diverse voters eg. transport , parking and parking fees , family arrangements to attend ?

  3. Haven’t seen or heard from a survey pollster nor a candidate in the heart of Hamilton West in decades ? We’re not the suburbs of the million dollar plus club , rich listers of the surrounding lake, river, Grandview Heights, Rototuna North .We’re the ones falsely stereotyped, ostracized and bagged with class bias phrases, crime ridden and truants but not sure how the interloper candidate from Auckland purports to know us.
