MEDIAWATCH: Soooooooo how compromised was The Spin-Off and NZ on Air in covering the Auckland mayoralty?

Not in a million years champ

Now NZ knows that Matthew Hooton’s purse, Ben Thomas, was secretly part of the brains trust behind Wayne Brown’s ascendence to Mayor, shouldn’t we be asking about The Spin-Offs role in gaining NZ on Air funding to cover the Auckland Elections?

Ben is of course one of the three hosts of the tedious Gone By Lunchtime Podcast funded by NZ on Air.

Worst menage trois ever.

The Spin-Off received $160 000 of taxpayer money from NZ on Air to jaw droopingly cover the Auckland Mayoralty election!

How convoluted is that compromise?

Taxpayer funded media covering an election where one of the candidates advisers then goes onto become officially part of the team?

How is it that the Spin-off get away with this?

Has anyone asked NZ on Air if this level of compromised conflict of interest is what the public broadcasting fund should be funding?

Of course not!

The Spin-off is the preferred pusher of Government Social Engineering propaganda and when they have a conflict of interest it’s only another example of the heteronormative white cis male patriarchy trying to shut down rather than any genuine abuse of public broadcasting by them.

This matters because to date, NZ on Air have given the Spin-off $6million!

This is the real reason The Spin-off have led the attack against the RNZ/TVNZ merger because they stand to lose the most funding!

BTW – The Working Group, NZ’s bestest and greatestest weekly political podcast does NOT receive one cent from NZ on Air.

  1. Initially, I was quite hopeful that there might be an improvement when Tracey Martin was going to lead the charge. Watching this morning’s ‘The Nayshun’, and the panel (especially the wise ole Dita de), we’re about to see the destruction of true PSB in favour of just another trough for the club to feed from.
It’s all trumpeted as the biggest reorganisation since Adam was a boy. It is not in fact.
We’re still going to have one of the most over-managed PSB systems there is, with the managerialists who don’t do much of any use sucking up most of the funding that could go to the useful.

There IS actually adequate money available for people producing content to get a liveable earn, but if we think what is about to happen in March next year, we’re sadly mistook.

Never mind though eh? Just another nail in the coffin and another example for the natives to get even more restless over.

  2. omg that first panelist on the nation saying ‘i dont’ know what it’s for’ jesus christ the lady just told you it’s because you and your mates crappy platforms aren’t publishing things for minorities. ANZPM is never going to get a fair hearing in the press because… duh, none of them want anything to change.
