This is so fucking insane…

Controversial ‘Shed Pati’ at University of Otago’s Arana College sparks backlash

A party in which students were encouraged to wear their “best hori attire” has sparked backlash in the wake of Māori Language Week.

The “Shed Pati” held at the University of Otago’s Arana College on Saturday was organised by Māori students, who have apologised for causing offence with what was simply intended as a fun party.

An advertisement for the party was posted on TikTok by Rangikata Turner O’Carroll, who criticised the event as perpetuating harmful stereotypes.

Turner O’Carroll, who lives in Auckland, said the college should have known better than to let the event go ahead, regardless of the intention behind it.

“It’s especially bad since it was Māori Language Week. It to me shows that they have no cultural sensitivity.”

…wait, what the fuck?

It’s a Māori University Students Association who are putting on a private event for other Māori students at Orago and it’s been cancelled by the woke for being inventive during Māori language week?????????

The Woke would eat their own children if they all weren’t pro abortion vegans!

I have argued that woke middle class identity politics in this country has mutated beyond an alienating feature that will drive voters away from the Left, and is now becoming a mental illness that borders on evangelical belief in magical pixies and invisible flying wizards.

The power the woke get from tone policing tone policing, micro aggressions and cancellations for likes and retweets is becoming a noose with which to garrotte heretics.

Everyone les mentally unwell than the woke are privileged and everyone more mentally unwell than the woke are toxic.

The woke cancelling a Māori University Social organised by the Māori University Students because it’s offensive to Māori in Māori language week.

  1. The woke always try and be the ‘best’ woke, until they eat themselves and outcast everyone else.
It’s more of an elite club where only the purists can be members, but eventually the membership is purged by the actual members! bit by bit by bit.

    • As I’ve said before, it is commonly accepted that the gulags were full of communists, just the wrong type of communists.

And today you may be welcomed only for tomorrow to be cancelled.

Sometimes it’s nice to be a RWNJ, at least most of the time we support each other, the left always seem preoccupied looking for traitors that they can destroy. Please keep it up, we’ll accept these broken people with open arms, once they’ve seen the light that they’ll never be pure nor woke enough.

  2. We have reached our “Latinx” moment, and the conclave prooves that they are every bit as stupid as they look.
The conclave will eventually eat itself, but not before it allows a crypto fascist state to form by its own actions.
Will the sensible adult left please stand up?

  3. Add in the snowflake filled Vic Uni lecturer crying and abusing his entire class because they didn’t watch his propoganda slides, I mean his “academic” seminar. He gets a wet bus ticket of course.

But it all comes back to the same thing every time with Martyn: his refusal to have the Left accept responsibility for their own children, i.e. the crazy woke Progressives. It’s like a bunch of elderly Nazis complaining about neo-Nazis giving Nazism a bad name.

Instead, like everything on this planet, it is neo-Liberalism’s fault. Where the Progressive Left use the words “hetereonormative/patriarchy/racist” insert the word “Neo-liberalism” and you have Martyn’s world view. Pretty similar to the Progressive Wokists, just another all encompassing lazy sleight of hand term to blame for everything.

If the response to Covid-19 and our current fucked up public service delivery shows, more state does NOT automatically equal more better. I’m no minimalist state Libertarian, but the state needs to re-focus on the core services and giving freedom to let the people build their own values instead of ramming down social brainwashing shit every other week.

    • Gordon I don’t think it’s a simple matter of left vs right. Yes woke does owe its origin to a mutation of Marxism, but the prevailing ideology in NZ (as in the Anglosphere in general) can be best described as progressive neoliberalism. Can Grant Robertson be accurately described as a socialist? He’s a progressive neoliberal – he combines neoliberal economics with woke identity politics. And have you noticed how woke business has become? The National Party is the party of business (note – NOT a Conservative party), so there’s no guarantee things would chance much under a National government, unless they’re forced into coalition with Seymour and/or Peters.

I totally agree that “the state needs to re-focus on the core services”, but I note that the previous National government did not do a great job of maintaining those core services. They let class sizes increase in our schools, and they did not build infrastructure to keep pace with population growth due to their permissive immigration policies. So the political right is complicit in our present situation, as they’ve failed to offer Kiwis a sound evidence-based alternative to LINO’s muddleheaded nonsense.

  4. So is it ok to eat Whittaker’s chocolate or not ? Every week of the year ? Should Whittaker’s be cancelled now ? If not, why not ? What about the Beehive endorsing racist chocolate ads? Where’s Trevor when they need him? Practising hosing down Stephen’s Green in Dublin? What about the Greens anyway? Teaching public servants how to make flax flowers during Maori language week ? Is that cultural appropriation ? Is bungling making flax flowers during Maori Language Week in a government department cultural insensitivity or even worse ? How can you tell ? What about those paua shells ? Kia kaha.

    • @Snow White – whatever is politically expedient. Here’s a future senario, Tangata Tiriti learning or speaking Te Reo will become cultural appropriation and working class Maori won’t get the chance to learn with few noticing or caring. Proficiency becomes as a social signifier a status game played by cultural elites, aristocratic Maori and wealthy Pakeha.

      • Tui. It’s a hard one. It looks like the politicisation and weaponisation of a language, might have been going on for a while, pre- social media. In the late 80’s the light-haired daughter of a distinguished Maori professional, was abused in the street by gang members, for wearing a bone carving, which she was entitled to.

In roughly the same time span, the then ‘Dominion ‘ columnist Agnes-Mary Brooke criticised Pakeha clergy for wearing the same. She now calls herself Amy Brooke, and appears in one or two Australian publications sometimes writing what I consider fairly extremist views. Elderly George Armstrong, a Pakeha Anglican vicar veteran of the anti-Springbok tour protests, and tutoring at VU, was genuinely bewildered at her criticism. The then Dom editor, Richard Long, later a National Party advisor, took it upon himself, to incorrectly pluralise te Reo words by adding ‘s’. They published a letter of mine, removing a Maori word and replacing it with an English substitute which didn’t gel.

Social media, which I don’t participate in, has exacerbated everything. However the anti free speech censorship headed by Joanna Kidman and co at VU may be more social manipulation.

      • Yes Tui that’s becoming more and more prevalent by the day.
Close family of mine think they’re superior because they are employed by a University.Guess what they are fluent in Te Reo?

  5. I am proud of being from the UK but am happy to call myself a Pommie bastard .To be able to poke fun at yourself to me shows you have confidence in whom you are . This type of fuss puts genuine claims in danger of not being heard .When fighting a battle you should chose you targets well to get full impact. This claim could be counter productive

    • Good man Trev. That safari park in Australia where the notice warning visitors to remain in their cars and keep the windows closed, with an add-on reading, “Poms on bikes admitted free “ is uber culturally sensitive not referencing your parenthood or its deficiencies. Don’t you just love Aussies ?

        • Trevor That’s likely why Chris Luxon gets around encased in a shiny big
Mercedes, not recovered from his cheap Air NZ holidays – and a rabbit could come straight down Tinakori Hill onto Bowen Street and savage him. PTSD.

  6. The woke already cancelled climate change school strikes and warned the kids that they were racist if they kept protesting climate change.

They cancelled the pride parade, as being too triggering if the wrong types went.

They cancelled freedom of speech, because everyone is too racist to speak.

They cancelled Maori voices because some Maori are racist stereotypes.

They cancelled fun, because, well it’s fun to cancel fun! Nobody is allowed to have fun anymore.

They cancelled comedians because they are too racist and support fun and freedom of speech, which they cancelled!

They even cancelled real academics in the universities, and filled them with woke lecturers who cancel their own students who do not deserve to be employed at their future woke state world, NZ Police, Ministry of Justice or Department of Corrections….
    https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/475153/lecturer-emails-diatribe-to-students-after-many-failed-to-watch-online-class

What a wonderful woke world we live in! Sarcasm! I wonder why the kids now have given up on all the above activities and engage in mall rage and drug abuse (both illlegal and legal medical).

    • They also cancelled women who wanted to discuss a piece of legislation that would allow male bodied people to self id into their spaces.

Will this stupidity ever end? Please make it stop.

      • Anker

Au contraire: those women could discuss their bigoted transphobia anywhere they liked, as long as the hosting venue was ok with it. Some refused, as was their right. If I were a venue owner I wouldn’t host any speaker or conference discussing limiting human rights, either.

TERFs – those poor darlings – just aren’t all that popular, is all.

(Btw the “self ID” bill was passed unanimously in Parliament. Bunch of wokesters the lot, huh?)

    • (Be who you want to be, apart from if you are considered a bad Maori stereotype by woke jury, then you are cancelled for being the wrong look for Maori by lone woke Maori)

  7. What a dull world we are turning into.

I would have thought a ”Shed Pati” organised by the Maori students would be a good way for all races, genders etc to enjoy a cold beer, have a laugh and appreciate each other.
    What the heck.

  8. “Harmful stereotypes”, ugh.

I won’t surprised if a “cultural safety” module is brought into the compulsory OHS training at my workplace.

  9. That’s bc the PMC are know-betters. These “highly educated” apparatchiks feel they have pastoral responsibilities, to watch over and protect the flock and steer the wayward members back onto ideologically safe ground.

  10. ” now becoming a mental illness that borders on evangelical belief in magical pixies and invisible flying wizards….”
    It is a mental illness.

Ever since the great revolution of our time in 2015 onwards from the yellow vest rallys to the alt right protests in Germany and Italy and then the big one in the US BLM and the copycat riots in the UK and elsewhere.
Oh and those apprentice CC kids losing their shit and glueing themselves to buildings and roads.

If that’s not an example of a an entire generation of mental fuck ups I don’t know what is.
What have they been teaching them in school for the last 20 years?

  11. It’s the kiwi-as multi-billionaire sect using the msm to create friction between two vulnerable and easily inflamed factions of AO/NZ’s society to divide us. They used the same strategy in ‘groundswell’ and ‘ag action’ and I’m sure of that because otherwise why would anyone bother causing such trouble? There’s no money in it, there’s no point to it and it’d be a complete waste of time overall, which it is. The only answer I can come up with is that someone with a lot to lose in time to come, and that time’s coming in like a storm, is forward-planning to create social chaos to deflect inquiry. Every beautiful little flower has its roots dug deep into the cold dark ground after all.

  12. I don’t get what the supposed offence would be to dress up in your best hori attire. Is it seen as akin to black face? If I’m white and dress up in my best pakeha immigrant attire, for example, would that be seen as being offensive? Is any traditional “costume” now offensive? Who gets offended? I went to a toga party at high school and went in my best Roman toga attire. Would that be offensive today? It was fun

  13. I have to admit that this cancelling culture is getting out of hand! These fucken ‘PGMC’ fuckheads that live good lives compared to most Maori who can’t even speak english properly but with their half-pie slang are depicted by ‘PGMC’ as bums no-good for nothing species and are only acknowledge at their tangi (funeral) if they are fortunate to be received on their ancestral Marae (House of gathering).

These current generation speaking Maori have this elitish aurora and believe that their shit doesn’t stink. The older generation are more sympathetic to non speaking Maori as they understood this treasure wasn’t taught to non-speaking Maori at home nor used in their everyday lives and wasn’t valued in mainstream society. When a non Maori person speaks more Maori than a Maori person how inadequate does that Maori person feel? Its a conundrum, considering that the worse of people to criticize an already demonized group comes from this ‘PGMC’ who should know better than to undermine their own kind.

    • That link is fascinating darling But
I really think we should wait till we hear from RNZ’s ‘The Panel’ with ” old school Jesse ” before we give credence to anything that causes us to form an opinion.
I really need to hear from a few more rent-a-voices from the approved list before I can make a judgement even though I do attempt to follow the platforms the unimaginative editor-in-chief and His bromancer Willie the Wonker try to copy (as they struggle with a definition of public service widecasting)
Unfortunately ‘The Panel’ has a locum so it’ll have to wait for another day when I can truely take heed as the old school Jesse prepares his lycra for the short ride up the hill to Eden Terrace. It’s really frustrating for someone who’s such a rilly rilly dedicated follower

  14. This is entirely consistent with the woke conclave. Identity (sinner or sanctified) is secondary to belief (in-group or out-group).

You can have all the cis/het/white/male/right-handed/neurotypical/normally-abled privilege in the world. If you continually confess your sin and fight to overthrow the patriarchy then you are a good person and acceptable in polite society. Conversely you can have queer/black/trans/female/indigenous/left-hander victim points to spare but not act and speak in the prescribed ways (or worse speak against the faith), then you are an identity traitor to be twitter-stoned.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cnn2aGVcCEc

A sinner who sins is a heretic, no great surprise. A sanctified person who sins is a fallen angel in woke world. This could be why woke white people feel righteous in racism and sexism towards non-woke brown people and non-woke women.

  15. Remember it started with Noddy’s imagined relationship with big ears and I’m a bit scared to say the word
    G g g golliwogs. There I said it.

  16. puhlease word we can only rap and sing along with! Tell that word we can only sing and rap along with from dorkland makaurau that he’s a female dog garden implement word we can only rap and sing along with. As a hori I’ll use hori if I effing well effing please – regards George
