We here at TDB like to be first at pointing shit out, but in this never ending 24-7 news clusterfuck of a media environment we all live in, even we can slip up and miss something that should get more focus, so from time to time we’ll run Under the Radar News, things of note that escaped attention.

This week, We must urgently protest the BNZ art auction and TOP could be the kingmaker

We must urgently protest the BNZ art auction:

BNZ to auction off multimillion-dollar art collection

Works by some of Aotearoa’s biggest artists are up for grabs this weekend when the BNZ auctions off 350 pieces.

When I first saw the TVNZ news story with some shit eating grin auction gimp telling us all how wonderful the BNZ is for selling off their art collection, I actually yelled in rage and threw my remote at the TV!

Oh Goodness, did I wish to bash the shit out of whatever TVNZ cretin producer had put together that shit ‘news’ story.

The BNZ was bailed out by this country twice, they made $1.3Billion in profits last year and they are now taking the Art treasures of NZ and hocking them off to any rich prick?

TDB Recommends NewzEngine.com

They are taking the money they made from us, to buy our art and now they are hocking that art off?

These greedy pricks used monopoly rental profits to buy NZ Art and now intend to flog it off to the highest bidder – this is corporate vandalism of our most special artistic taonga!

Fuck the BNZ and we should feel totally agreeable to it being open season on them for anything.

This is prostituting the greatest Art we have for a Bank profit margin.

These rich fucks bought this Art as a pretence of philanthropy to escape tax, they are now going to sell that Art to the richest.

This is sacrilege! If you stupid Hobbits could get furious about the possibility of the Concert Program going, you should be outraged at this collection of the best NZ Art being sold to prop up BNZ profit margins.

Why can we all get angry about tone policing POC’s reaction to the Queen dying but a bank fucking us over again is perfectly normal?

TOP could be new kingmaker:

Latest internal poll shows a hung Parliament…

Latest political poll points to tight race for National and Labour with right and left blocs even

A recent political poll again points to a tight election next year with National and the right bloc neck and neck with Labour and the left.

A commercial poll from Talbot Mills, who also poll for the Labour Party, has National on 38 per cent and Labour on 35 per cent. NZ Herald obtained the poll.

The results, taken between August 31 and September 7, show a slight increase in support for National from the last poll; the party is up one point while Labour drops a point.

Compared to the August poll, Act has dropped one point to 9 per cent and the Greens one point to 8 per cent.

Those results would put National and Act at 47 per cent, pipping Labour and current support partner the Greens on 44 per cent.

Te Pāti Māori registered 3 per cent in support, placing support for the parties left of centre neck and neck with the right.

…with ACT/National neck and neck with Labour/Green/Māori, the possible King-Queen maker here could be TOP!

The Opportunities Party leader Raf Manji has a chance of winning Ilam now Gerry Brownlee has stood down. Sarah Pallett won the seat in 2020 during Labour’s red wave, but Manji was competitive against Gerry back in 2017. If Manji can steal the seat off Pallett and against a weak National newbie, TOP could enter Parliament AND bring in 2 MPs off the Party list.

TOP are talking about Housing and the political tax impasses that prevent Housing from being built, if they can convince the public that Raf can win in Ilam, then a vote for TOP isn’t wasted. If National were smart they would consider talking to TOP and offering them an Epsom deal in Ilam.

TOP are worth 1 electorate plus 2 MPs coat tailing off MMP list.

  1. “This is sacrilege! If you stupid Hobbits could get furious about the possibility of the Concert Program going, you should be outraged at this collection of the best NZ Art being sold to prop up BNZ profit margins.”
    This Hobbit IS equally outraged!
I’ve yet to see whether Grant and others are, and it’ll be yet another determinant of how I vote next year.
Almost as outraged too that we’ve been told year after year that we can’t have a commercial FTA television station (should actually be two) and that Labour seem to have been quite comfortable with artists, actors musicians and others having not been adequately supported. Our best and brightest usually just up and leave

  2. Raf Manji was popular in Ilam and could of taken the seat had he been not so damn haughty. He announced that he wouldn’t bother with canvassing and all that stuff.. his campaign launch was a cocktail party at his home in Fendalton! His support just never went anywhere, and he got bored and left Christchurch.

Labour usually carpet bags some North Island simp in to the Chch safe seats, and puts up a child or family pet to run in the usually safe Blue seats. The win of Ilam by Sarah Pallet is due to her personality, hard work and presence in her electorate, and Ilam voters tired of being taken for granted by Brownlee.

    • Good to hear these insights from different key electorates.
We have a heap of red wave MP’s up here in the North. Few of them will be returned. Some like Willow Jean Prime were high up the list anyway . She has done nothing in her time as an electorate MP . Shane Jones achieved more as a List MP. It is a pity his personality rubs people up th ewrong way as he gets stuff done. Depending on who the National candidate is it is highly unlikely Prime will return as an electorate MP.Reti will retake Whangarei it has been good to see that arrogant prick do some real work in the community whilst in opposition. He is capable and competent. Rare qualities in the house these days.
Manji is a an unknown in the rest of the country and I suspected he was just another condescending know it all pommy dick, thanks for confirming that. If Pallet is a genuine hardworking local she will get the seat back.

    • Interesting James. It gives insight into what went on in Ilam and I wondered how Brownlee could continue with it as an armchair seat. The springs gave out in the end apparently.

  3. Webb’s commission will be eye watering, funneling public money that was used to purchase art works by, an at the time state owned bank to go to a private company.
The art works themselves which are publicly funded taonga will end up in the hands of art speculators.
Hmmm public money further enriching the top at the expense of the bottom. Sound familiar?
The rich get richer the poor get the picture.

  4. Art and real estate. Two of the top methods used by individuals and businesses to avoid tax and launder money.
No surprises the banking cabal are heavily involved in both.

  5. So our children will never get to see these works by McMahon, Ralph Hotere, Rita Angus, and the rest. “The Bank of New Zealand art collection is without doubt the most significant collection of New Zealand art in private hands,” said Charles Ninow…but, but, but this art collection was bought with public funds- how does that work? There was a convoy of pristine Jags heading south yesterday, you could smell the money, they probably buy art with money from this ‘community fund’! nice to see Helen Clarke pointing out the thievery, during this time of mourning, tut tut. https://www.eventfinda.co.nz/venue/webbs-auction-house-auckland-city-newmarket 10am-6pm

  6. Yes people need to vote strategically in Ilam and get him in. He is a bit up himself but nevertheless better than anyone else who will stand in that electorate.

People need to stop thinking ‘we have two parties’ which will it be. They are both similar and I don’t want either and that is why back in the day i was a ground member of The new labour party. I will be voting and encouraging others to vote for one of the minor parties. They need to get a very large percentage so that we have real clout with one of the big boys, lets shift the balance.

    • If marginal Ilam is going to anything different other than voting back a National candidate again, it better get some baby kissing attention and some barrels of pork rolled out in Burnside Park.

  7. If TOP just go single issue on housing they stand a reasonable chance simply because Labour/Greens nor National/ACT, (who are the same shit, different bucket on that subject), have delivered anything worthwhile nor can be trusted!

Then maybe then we may get some progress!

  8. If the BNZ no longer want to be custodians of this art and why would a bunch of Aussies want a NZ art collection, then they need to be acheiving such bad PR over this that they are “shamed” into gifting it to Te Papa. Its ours.

They are idiots. If they put it on permanent display in a purpose built destination space for the people but covered in their branding they would receive so much kudos and extra business.

  9. Yet again we are having our taonga controlled by overseas financial interests for their financial gain. All those who have sold our country to foreign interests should be publicly shamed and have their knighthoods withdrawn.

  10. I just got stereo tingles in my titties. Fuck The Banks indeeds. Just make sure it’s not in that good way.
The Banks are THE problem. Not just for soon to be selling off great art but for their gleeful power grasping cruelties and the bnz is the master of that particular ceremony.
michael fay and david richwhite should be called upon for their views, as should alan trumpet-farm gibb and graham hart.
I’m writing a book about what the bnz did to my father and of how that impacted on my mother and myself. She’s a page turner mate. A real page turner with pictures. It’s quite the tome but if I took out all the fuck words it’d be a three page synopsis.
If you want to kill off the bnz and it’s foreign puppet masters then simply don’t bank with the fuckers. Nor the others either. ASB, ANZ and Westpac ( The gubbimint Bankster, including the police. ) There are local banks who’re customer owned. Bank with them instead.
