Not everyone necessarily likes it, but more and more of us are discovering the delights of gaming. In fact, alongside following the latest developments in the media and tucking into the occasional Netflix movie, people are turning to a wide variety of gaming platforms as a genuinely attractive entertainment option.

This evident change in habits is highlighted by a past GlobeNewswire study which suggests that we’re at the early stages of the industry witnessing new growth, with the gaming industry forecasted to grow at a CAGR of 12% between 2020 and 2025. Statista also suggests that online game revenue is estimated to reach a staggering $26.29 billion by the end of 2022. These are just two examples of how prominent gaming has become in the modern world, although it’s in evidence throughout society.

Smartphones have created new gamers

The rise of our sophisticated communication tools has enabled people to discover gaming for themselves. While mobile phones were initially created to send text messages and make and receive calls, they’ve evolved into internet-based devices that can house applications. One of the most popular apps for people to download is smartphone games, with people having the ability to access a title on the go or while relaxing in the evening. Games can be downloaded and loaded up within seconds, they’re designed to be picked up and put down, therefore providing a casual gaming package as a result, and they’re fun and entertaining.

There are games thriving away from the downloadable products also, with smartphone users sampling a selection of browser games, from progressive slot games to poker titles by Zynga through popular social media sites like Facebook. Smartphones have essentially enabled people that perhaps wouldn’t snap up a console or a PC gaming machine to enjoy a casual gaming option that can accompany them throughout a typical day.

Stereotypical image of a gamer has changed

In the past, gamers have typically been presented as teenagers who live sedentary lifestyles as they lock themselves away in their bedrooms and avoid any physical activity. While there are still gamers in this category, options like smartphone gaming have enabled a new breed of gamers to emerge. From parents and uncles to kids and young adults, anyone can game these days without being scrutinised. Technology-based advancements have certainly contributed to gaming’s change in image also, with society becoming reliant on a number of different forms of tech. As such, someone firing up a game and enjoying a solid gaming marathon is seen as a relatively normal activity in the modern world. As a result, people can game freely without being judged because everyone is essentially doing it.

People can purchase games in the digital world

Today, 83% of video game sales happen in the digital world. Previously, though, people had to purchase a game through a retail store, making the transaction a totally different experience on the whole. These days, the likes of Activision Blizzard distribute its impressive titles in many ways, with gamers able to access them without even leaving the house. Additionally, services like Steam and Apple Store have enabled people to access a comprehensive selection of releases easily.

Games are better than ever

Another reason why more and more of us are gaming is down to the ongoing advancements that are continually on show in the gaming arena. Games of old will always be fondly remembered and helped shape the gaming climate of today, but the overall gaming package in 2022 has never been so impressive. From advanced graphics and gameplay to augmented and virtual reality, the games people can access have never been so advanced.
