A man charged with threatening to kill Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was this morning restrained and handcuffed by police on the floor of a Tauranga courtroom, claiming he had been “kidnapped” and detained illegally.
…it’s like a militant policing of micro aggressions to literally seperate yourself away from all authority. Like a trance state that refuses to acknowledge any authority and refuses to engage.
We forget that the State requires us to respond even at the basic level of walking to and from where you are asked.

It is VERY hard to read the report on the New Lynn Terrorist Ahamed Samsudeen and not see how our intervention as the State in his life turned an angry young man into a knife stabbing terrorist.
Everything about our interaction with Ahamed Samsudeen radicalised him, and there really has to be some exceptionally hard questions asked of almost every State Service who dealt with him because all it looks like is we manufactured a terrorist by the way we treated him.
I fear that we are going to do the same thing with these sovereign citizen cultists by over reacting.
Legitimate domestic terror threats to the State must be nullified and prevented at all costs, but fantasists who believe in a magical world of make believe need to be responded to proportionally no matter how their behaviour frightens the rest of us.
As we struggle at the height of a Covid outbreak with all the economic and social pressures that are tearing us apart, I fear our fear will cause us to blunder it something worse.

Not paying debts, hardly working and feeling you are hard done by is perfectly ok in NZ, and you get huge government attention for your plight, a lot more than if you actually are a working medical professional who might catch Covid getting little respect and less and less financial gain in NZ.

It is an act of self defence – seeing how the NZ state trampled over the bill of rights to exile them and seek deterministic control over their body, and increasingly soul and mind. And given the lack of apology, the lack of reflection, and the lack of conversation about what is planned at elite levels the new normal, especiall in the incestuous little anglo-box we’re painting us into with our response to Ukraine, it is perfectly rational to respond to this trauma by “trying to get out”. Just go to the comments section of almost any MSN news story. Try the one about Bloomfield’s resignation. So much anger and abuse – can’t be healthy for those involved all the country for that matter. Conservatives have always had the need to be angry at something, but I suspect this goes beyond that.
I tend to agree with SaveNZ, we are seeing what happens when Identity Politics runs wild and when meritocracy goes out the window.
I do think the whole Covid experience has skewed our lives completely and we need to get back to being a community. Interacting widely, turning up to work, doing what our bosses tell us etc. For many people when you take the straitjacket off (loosen societal rules and interactions) they tend to wander or even go right over to Crazyville so I do think a lot of what we are seeing, is the breakdown of the social order directly attributable to the Covid era.
Having said that, the perniciousness and growth of social media is immense and is also part of the problem. My 2 kids were born 6 years apart and I am gobsmacked by the difference in attitude between them.
One was brought up pre social media (and was never interested in it) and one was immersed in it from Age 10.
The youngest of the 2 now has a set of behaviours and beliefs that are actually alien to the rest of the family. The behaviours that come with it are self centredness, a transactional approach to all interactions and unrealistic expectations of what others owe us or what we are entitled to. Finally and not least, a lack of respect for anything rules or law based.
As this generation hits the workforce, society will (and is beginning to) face massive change.
It is interesting to note amongst the many different nationalities that live here now, how pleasant and decent most of them are. I am beginning to think that NZ is not a decent, happy place, it looks good to people who have suffered and been endangered. It seems NZ is past it, we live in a place that has stripped away personal citizenship and is fake everything – fake concern about violence, fake protection against drugs, fake attempt to educate us in useful ways, fake concern about destruction of the environment, destruction of our living standards, erosion of our wages and our national economics situaton, fake concern about privacy with hacking and invasion of our personal records demanded by the government, picking out the most advantageous ways of winning votes, allowing people to decline who the government has had a hand in disrupting their stable lives and leaving them with erratic work,. low pay, and high rents i with pretence that they are concerned about their living standards. There doesn’t seem to be any true national feeling for ourselves as a country and government has just employed trained propagandists to destroy national feeling and feed us a line that sounds good, just enough to raise hopes and get re-elected again. Politicians are hard on each other because that is today’s zeitgeist and even environmentalists are often lacking in concern for their fellow citizens – it’s a time for negativity and fault finding, nothing good can be relied on to remain that people have held dear. Covid has caused us to stop and look at each other but that has led to higher mental unhealth – it’s too hard to look clearly at the dysfunction that we have been thrust into, never to get ahead of the bills, the low conditions, and have to suffer being despised by the better-off simply because we don’t look or sound right to the snobs of the self-centred middle class. And a future of being run by machines and have no humans in positions where they come into contact with the smelly hoi polloi. Robots will be bosses, if not actual ones, people who think like ones. I try to keep kind and real, but I see this all happening and getting more so, and if it is not reversed, we will be fractured beyond repair and all divide into gangs where we live with other similar people if we are lucky enough to find trustworthy and compatible people.
Who needs citizen terrorists when the government imports foreign ones? Outsource, people. Race to the bottom… it’s glorious!
