A salute to Dr Ashley Bloomfield from a bitter and ungrateful nation of moaners & feral lunatics

Few public servants have become household names like Bloomfield.

His calm performances, his stable grip of communication and immediate recall of vast tracks of real time information marks him as one of the greatest public servants ever and his results speak for themselves

Covid deaths:
Sweden: 18,365
Australia: 6,425
Denmark: 5,777
Aotearoa: 443

Ashley was part of a public health response that history will hold up as exemplary.

Sure there were mistakes.

Sure there was a challenge to the State where Health trumped all else and many other departments were rubbed up the wring way.

Yes the DHBs were useless in their community outreach and one wonders how a Māori Health Authority could have performed differently, but overall, he did a remarkable job.

The most extraordinary part of his performance was the jaw dropping bile and toxic hate rage that was vomited up upon him every day.

I’m not talking valid criticism or clever social media burns, I’m talking insane asylum sewer level radioactive invective that once read can’t ever be cleaned away.

The vile shit thrown at him for saving our collective lives is bordering on outright lunacy.

He represented our best, the toxic outrage represents our worst.

Thank you for your service Dr Ashley. There will always be parts of rational NZ who will welcome you and who are genuinely grateful for your leadership at a time of huge crisis.

Kia kaha.

  1. All those people who were not “allowed” to be with their loved ones during their loved ones last dying breaths will probably always remember Ashley and the faux empathy queens stand up routines.

    • It was a mild plague ex kiwi. Get a grip you great softie – the nation could not handle people just ignoring the risks because it was about all the country’s ability to cope as well as the poor people suffering and their relatives.
You actually refer to the heart of the problem and then blame the medical service because they weren’t able to help everybody. Which was why they made the restrictions in the first place. Goodbye ex kiwi we have enough dimwits here now – so good if you stay out of nz which sounds like the case.

    • Your right Bert seemores comments are typical coming from a little divisive grub like him. But the ungratefulness coming from other NZers disappoints me. We only need to look at what is happening across the ditch in NSW they are having major issues with Omicron and look at Shanghai. But now we have this nasty underbelly in this country and its not just disenfranchised peoples some of those complaining the loudest as usual are the well healed. And why is that? is it because they care only about themselves and not the majority of us. Despite us having low Covid death rates there are people still wanting business as usual. And if warmonger arse-kissing National and Act were in power thousands of Maori, PI and our elderly people would have died not hundred, thousands.

    • And all those that were saved by Ashley and the PM ( your complete lack of respect is noted ex Kiwi) will thank them for the best health response in the world. Australia deserves you but no doubt you’ll be back as a 501.

  2. Meh. The rats are jumping the sinking ship. We still don’t have morbidity data (all causes) for 2020 and 2021.

So it’s not just Bloomfield – they’re all getting the fuck out. I think there is some sort of covid disclosure coming out soon and they’re getting out in front of it. I don’t believe in these sort of coincidences. We’ll see.

    • The jumping off the ship as you say may be down to their fear of Nact government and rightly so. Look at the carnage that was left behind by Nact at their last turn in office, underfuning in the workforce, infrastructure, wages and future investment.
National MPs complaining now that we should get rid of Labour day as a consequence of the new Matariki public holiday. Yet the evidence is clear that the money spent on public holidays in the retail sector outstrips money lost in production. Add in the mental health wellbeing of staff and in fact staff are more likely to be productive.
It is typical though that the likes of ACT and National measure everything by the dollar yet can’t see the cost benefits of retail sales. Oddly bizzare.

  3. Some of those self-entitled to trouble-freedom consideration for our fellow citizens might not salute you Dr Bloomfield, but most of us do whole-heartedly. The fickle finger of fate will see us and our little individual concerns pass on as inconsequential in New Zealand’s and the world’s history of happenings, but you will be remembered as having set the standard and encouraged the whole medical response that has been so good for us in NZ.

other nations have noted and helped us also to be part of a mutually supportive worldwide interaction. And much of the successful effort at rising above the Covid19 disease problem has resulted from the work of yourself and similar colleagues around the planet. With hope that this approach in personal medicine can be as well applied to other troubling matters in future difficult times.

  4. Thank you for your service Dr Bloomfield.
To me you seemed a hard working and sincere public servant and should hold your head high for a job well done on your part.
I’ve not seen the bile and venom said to be directed at you, but it may be that some people reacted negatively at the wrong target, to the endless politicization of public health by government, and deification of public figures by media. Not your fault.

I hope you get the time to relax that you have earned.
