Why are we helping our Chinese Economic Overlords?

Wait, what?

NZ-China Free Trade Agreement upgrade coming into effect in April

New Zealand’s Trade Minister last week met with his Chinese counterpart to agree that an upgrade to our Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China will come into effect in April.

Damien O’Connor says the upgrade, signed in January 2021 but which has now been ratified by both countries, is a “significant step” and will assist with New Zealand’s economic recovery from COVID-19.

Yay, more raw materials will be taken from NZ with no significant manufacturing of the finished goods only so China can sell it back to us as a finished good!

Right when we acknowledge that our Chinese Overlords are malicious and running concentration camps and abuse human rights with a regularity you can set your Taiwanese made watch by, here we are for another economic cuddle?

We need to see our economic decoupling from China as a national security issue.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice – please donate here.

If you can’t contribute but want to help, please always feel free to share our blogs on social media.

  1. We have made a conscious decision to straddle the fence. At some stage we will have to pick sides by which time China will have us and half of the Pacific. Why do you think Australia has been so prepared to take economic brickbats – they know what is coming…..

  2. NZ failed housing policy, sell off our land and assets to Asia and the rest of the world funded by banks or dubious cash money being money laundered, and then take on government debt to pay for NZ residents who increasingly have a lower standard of living.

Since when did selling off state house land and privatising it, become a good housing policy for the left? It’s from the Thatcher days, with Globalist updates!

Who thinks that the Asian company backed by Goldman Sacs is going to sell off these houses cheap to the poor, or are they going to sell them at market rates, that increasingly those that are on NZ wages can’t afford?

When the issue is not enough housing for the growing poor in NZ, why is Kiwibuild taking taxpayers money to sell off to people who when audited didn’t seem very poor, and apparently was paying in cash or somehow was buying property without having a job that paid much income or just arrived in NZ in the last few years. Meanwhile the poorer people born here, live in hotel rooms in emergency housing.

Who thinks that when the houses have building problems the Auckland ratepayers will be the ones forced into litigation to fix them up?

  3. It’s not just the China NZ free trade deal, it is all the deals that are not about free trade, but forced trade, forced polluting (climate change and social good NOT allowed to be included) and the smaller countries like NZ are the most worst off.

Foreign buyers haven’t come to NZ to buy the milk and the wool, they came to NZ, bought up the farms, the hotels the assets, and then bought in their own labour pools (that NZ taxpayers largely subsidise their families coming to NZ with free health, education and superannuation and NZ citizenship – work elsewhere but just come back when it suits).

You can even buy NZ list MP seats where Chinese donations are more valuable than other nationalities according to Natz leaders.

So did this work…. increase the quality of NZ goods, increase NZ productivity and increase NZer’s standard of living and skills…. NOPE, everything has got worse!

    Failed policy, failed legislation.

Helping destroy the planet and keep the polluters and morally corrupt dinosaurs in business while destroying local economies and jobs whose products are not guaranteed to be used. (This helps the richest stay in business who can create monopolies and destroy any up in coming competition).

It’s a slide to the bottom with the most dominant, cheapest and most litigations removing local competition.

Along comes Covid and now nobody can get anything anymore as creating products from the furtherest parts of the world, is not that practical and takes a lot of time!

  4. How’s the investigation going into the cause and origin of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) ?

Experts agree that in excess of 20 million people have died a bad death from Covid thus far and economic ruin has been the consequence for many others. Countries turn on each other and their leaders that have tried to keep them safe and alive……..meanwhile, the country of origin of Covid bullies anyone who has the audacity to investigate how, why and where. As a result, that country has been gifted a free pass and it’s pretty much business as usual for them.

    Who said bullying doesn’t pay?

  5. Yeah, those funny Chinese who, year in, year out, continues to let their minority populations grow, none more so than the Uyghur. Why do they continue to operate outside of standard, US-led, Western narratives! And now look at what they are doing to us, buying our raw materials, now that’s beyond mean!

  6. Around 90% of the Meth precursors are originating from China.

Sadly the facts don’t seem to be reported very widely or governments doing much to stop the Chinese precursors being exported and sold.

  7. “Why are we helping our Chinese Economic Overlords?”

Er … because they’re our Economic Overlords ?

I, for one, welcome our new Cathay Overlords & am more than happy to spill the beans on others in exchange for a senior position in the new Regime.

  8. Can’t stop now Martyn, unless we reject Liberalism as the dominate form of thought in our society.

Mind you, Liberalism is the economic and social theory which eventually leads to totalitarianism. We are just sleep waking into it’s eventual conclusion.

  9. It is interesting that our government is so keen to get back into trading with China, and not unwise as China is such a large country and has a productive workforce. It is also worth noting that New Zealand has a trade deal with the UK in the works. There is a massive amount of positivity for New Zealand on the trade front.

  10. There is no problem doing business with China, the problem is that when we express our position on something, we are vulnerable to economic retaliation from China. So New Zealand should seek more markets to diversify risks. Doing business with a lying and untrustworthy business partner will not end well!
