Parliament Protest Meltdown – Winners & Losers

The insanity of the last week outside Parliament has been a slow motion train wreck crashing into a school bus of intellectually handicapped children, that then explodes into a petting zoo for adults with ADHD.

This disaster has been egged on by Far Right Steve Bannon inspired media and Trevor Mallard.

How it’s come to pass that the Speaker of the House is playing Chess with far right lunatics AND LOSING is as stupid as it is terrifying.

There are so many losers here, it’s difficult to know where to begin!

LOSERS:

NZ Mainstream Media – They all stood alongside the Speaker on his balcony filming the anger and became defenders of Mallard because he was defending them! It’s less journalism and more Stockholm Syndrome at this stage. They may as well just get John Campbell and the Breakfast TVNZ crew to Tic Toc dance for all the insight they are giving. Because Trev protected them from the smelly working class rabble, NO ONE IN THE MEDIA has criticised Trev’s disastrous call on Thursday. The NZ Media’s first rule of Trevor Mallard’s fight club is that you never mention Trevor Mallard’s fight club. None of the journalism outlets taking Government money have criticised Trevor’s spectacular cluster fuck – is this investigative journalism is it?

Middle Class Parliamentarian Staff & Wellingtonians – Smelly working class rabble said mean things to them and they cried to Trev to protect them because it was so scary! A BUS STOP HAD TO BE MOVED! How will they ever cope? There is no power on earth stronger than white middle class fear of smelly working class people.

Trevor Mallard – On Day 3 of this lunacy, the feral lunatics had attempted to invade Parliament and were bounced off  by a professional police response. That night the leadership of the factions imploded and many left in the morning. As the protest was losing momentum and dying off, what did Trev do? He waltzed out onto his balcony, threw a tantrum in front of the collective media and bewilderingly called on Police to clear the lawn. REMEMBER IT WAS DYING, and Trev responded by enflaming it by giving these lunatics a common enemy and a 10 hour live streamed recruitment video for fucks sake! THERE ARE NOW 5 TIMES AS MANY PEOPLE THERE THAN WHEN THIS STARTED! Trev, a politician with a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, issues is making decisions that are counter productive and enflaming this madness! He’s turned on sprinklers, brought in floodlights and is attempting a cheap psy-ops low grade music torture by playing shitty music at them all hours of the day. These people are pushed to the edge with nothing to lose, freezing them and trying to cause sleep deprivation will probably turn them violent. This is so counter productive you actually have to ask is Trev the Q from QAnon? Her’s less Speaker of the House and more a militant Humpty Dumpty at this stage.

TDB Recommends NewzEngine.com

Jacinda, Labour, Greens & Maori Party – Where the fuck are the adults? Why isn’t anyone reining the Speaker in to stop a full blown act of violence from erupting on the lawns of Parliament? Do they really live in such a protected little bubble that they have no concept of how this is going to end? Why isn’t anyone trying to de-escalate this? Do you really want riot police with batons, shields, police dogs and pepper spray to be your legacy? If we can’t control the Speaker, how are you going to control the protestors?

The Police – They have been flawless and professional in their handling of this, but they should NEVER have been sent in on Thursday Stupid Thursday because they created a common enemy and radicalised vast chunks of the population. The only way they can force the Lawn clear now is by excessive force which will have Labour and Greens voters cheering and the rest of us horrified.

Protestors – These feral lunatics are frightened and hurt by economic mandates. They have nothing to lose and their pain has been manipulated by far right fascists. A convergence of these AntiVaxxers is called ‘A Location of Ignorance’. They are to be pitied, not feared and by standing up to Mallard’s petty pranks, they are winning hearts and minds and are growing by the day. They are losers because there is no upper limit of violence that the State can employ to remove them from that lawn. 200 riot police with clubs, batons, pepper spray and dogs will clear that lawn, it’s just that the protestors don’t believe Labour would do that. They are wrong.

NZ Democracy – As Mallard looks to sanction extreme violence by the Police to clear the lawn, our Democracy is at threat. We should do everything in our power to avoid what is coming next, we should do everything in our power to de-escalate this, because once you’ve seen riot police beating poor people and old people and children, there’s no unseeing that. By sanctioning extreme force, Mallard could trigger a backlash that sees something far more dangerous to our Democracy.

Twitter Activist Left – Watching Woke Twitter cheer his provocation and senseless radicalization of this is jaw dropping! Remember – on NZ Tribal Left Twitter – IT IS NEVER TREV’S FAULT! Trev could order the Police to taser children and set dogs on old people right now and NZ Tribal Left Twitter would blame the protestors for having children and knowing old people! If you are on the Left and see no issues with what Trev’s actions are creating, you are part of the problem!

WINNERS:

Far Right Counterspin Fascists – I’ve been pointing out the impact of dark money from the American Religious Right since they interfered with our Cannabis referendum in 2020! The Counterspin outlet is backed by Steve Bannon and promotes conspiracy to manipulate working class misery and ignorance. They can’t believe the propaganda gift that is Mallard.

ACT & National – They get to feast on Mallard’s jaw dropping behaviour and strategic blunders. When the Police eventually use extreme force to remove the protestors, they get to point at Mallard’s behaviour as an accelerator while the PM was powerless to rein him in.

CONCLUSION:

I never thought I’d ever get to the stage in NZ politics where I was holding back the Left from calling on the the State to smash their fellow citizen – I always thought that was a threat from the Right!

We urgently require de-escalation here and Mallard must be removed from decision making!

The Far Right are manipulating the misery, fear and anger of the working classes there. Those working classes have been Facebook hate algorithmed into an alternative dimension and should be pitied rather than feared.

If the adults can’t push Mallard out, then the inevitability of extreme police violence dragging women, children and poor people from the lawns of Parliament while tribal political factions cheer will cause a rip in the NZ space time political continuum that will never heal.

  1. Democracy, and once again our beautiful children, came under assault last week, led by Trevor Mallard, but we all lose out whenever we damage kids – an evil where we’re world leaders and big hypocrites.

No one should have the power to launch a mindless onslaught against the people like Mallard did. Governments have been chipping away at our freedoms like ferrets, but some sort of inquiry is needed into how one idiot can cause so much damage, and we can expect nothing from the brainwashed media. It’s sickening that it was media up there on the balcony with Trevor looking down upon the people and he has to stop dragging us down to his level.

      • If you think that it’s ok to turn sprinklers on the way he did then you’re just as bad.
And Stalin would have had a tradition of glorious Russian music to call upon, but New Zealand politicians are pop star groupies – Ardern baked scones for Ed Sheerhan and got photographed with DJ’s – PM English went to Auckland just to see Adele – they all need to grow up.

      • Agreed. Hell when Muldoon was PM he brought in the riot squad who didnt hesitate to beat the crap out of us!

      • I’m pro-protest but those two Mallard moves – pretty canny. Especially in this age where protests have been met with extreme prejudice throughout the world, none more so than our near neighbour Australia.

    • @ Snow White … While I don’t agree with what Mallard did, because I consider it childish, he did use a soft option thank goodness. The situation could have been a lot worse, such as police using water canons, tasers or tear gas on the protesters.

As for the children’s presence at the protest … why are they there in the first place? A scenario such as this is no place for a child. Where is the parent’s common sense and responsibility?

    • In no way could a reasonable person condone the actions of the Speaker of the House. Otherwise Snow White, what a load of emotive BS!pdrobably No caring parent would expose “our beautiful children” to the protest in the first place. The kids were/are in an environment that includes aggressive and hostile people whose views and language are not too ‘beautiful’ – not to mention being in a place that is of necessity being policed. In this, they are probably having any respect for their potential protectors undermined. Who would continue to expose their children to an unsanitary environment where trench foot and eye infections are already established, even if they are not being exposed to raw faeces as has been reported (Covid as well??). One might also have concerns about the quality and quantity of food they are consuming as it would seem the usual catering requirements and health inspection are absent. If you think that is less concerning than Mallard’s antics it is suggested you have a serious re-think.

      • aom. What I think is irrelevant, got it ?

What is relevant is that parents/ carers decided to expose littlies to circumstances well beyond their comprehension, and not conducive to their well being.

From that moment on, the adult calling the shots on site, Trevor Mallard had a moral responsibility towards those children, and he failed them.

What’s more he was dumb enough to play right into the carers’ hands and let them further victimise children, keeping them in the front line, and bewailing , “ Think of the children,” just as Ardern did today, a couple of days too late.

Children are beautiful, they are our most precious taonga and they are our future, but not everybody thinks that way – their choice – but pity the children.

When Mallard commanded the sprinklers be turned on, dismayed senior police tried to get them turned off and Mallard said that he could do what he liked on his patch. It’s up to Mallard to explain himself here – he’s a big boy – in a manner of speaking.

The winner must surely be the naked girl who covered herself in coconut oil, leaving the coppers to drag her by her dreadlocks and thus portray themselves as perverted coppers dragging a defenceless naked woman by her hair. She knew exactly what she was doing, and she isn’t the first slippery woman to use her body to set others up – her choice, and it’s up to her to explain herself too, but she didn’t appear to be a shrinking pua.

        • snow white
if the children are so precious what do you think of the parents who put them in harms way and use them as human shields?

as for the naked woman manhandled by police that’s EXACTLY what she was hoping for and it’s what she got, didn’t think it through though did she? dreads make great handles maybe a number 1 cut next time she’s grandstanding.

          • I’m glad we are all thinking of the children.
Shame we weren’t thinking of the same children when we passed laws ostracizing their parents and severing these families from society?
Let’s vilify the people we amputated and pretend we haven’t affected their kids by doing that too, and then tell them they aren’t thinking of their kids when they protest.

Jesus this government gave millions of dollars to drug dealing gangs who use a nazi salute one guy was even made an essential worker , how can the same government mock and say such awful things about protesters affected by their own covid laws.

          • gagarin I personally cannot begin to understand any mother who would use her children in this way, or, for that matter, any adult who would use any child in this way, and I gather that this is not the first time that this has happened with police encounters in New Zealand.

The only similar happenings I know of are the continental gypsies who toss babies at strangers who instinctively raise their arms to catch them, and get robbed while doing so. Way back, in the context of law in society, we studied an African tribe where parents laughed at babies who tumbled into fires – this was recorded by a contemporary English anthropologist called Turnbull, whose book I no longer have.

The protesting naked female, was woman handled, not man handled. I gather that she was trying to get other women to take their clothes off also, and failed, and it may have been a cultural issue for the lubricated Maori girl. There’s no law stopping police from handling anybody by their hair but I daresay that the identity politics aficionados could quickly rustle one up.

Surprised though, that they who reported police dragging naked female by her hair omitted to say that she had allegedly covered herself in coconut oil, but this may not have suited their narrative.

  2. No one deared to believe the entire world would flip upside down. That a pandemic would completely do in capitalism. The response being, there is no alternative to capitalism. I’m just lmfao. What’s your definition of money you plebs?

  3. A bus-load of intellectually handicapped children?

So is that all the protesters or just those who’ve been kidnapped by the crazies? Or the Tamaki mob? Or those trouble seekers who want to take over the country and install themselves or the ‘right people’ as the leaders of the country?

      • Okay, list all MPs in order of merit to be PM from 1 to 120.

Now place Kelvyn Alp, Brett Power and Brian Tamaki where you think they would rank.

      • Jeremy. So do you reckon all the failed politicians from the past now putting their oar in, will help matters? Even a little ? Between you and me, Chris Bishop’s poor hungry old father driving around Wellington looking for a sausage roll, has more chance of finding one than a bunch of time-expired losers converging on the capital convinced that they’re Frank Sinatras doing it their way, will add anything constructive to Trevor’s cock-up.

What’s more, we, the taxpayers are probably paying for their airfares as part of the perks of the job they were never all that good at themselves. Could build a few houses with that money, use it to alleviate child povidy or other bona fide social ills.

  4. It makes sense if you remember Mallard, the 4th estate, and the interests they represent *are* the Right. A grouping that now encompasses the permanently upset Identitarian types that like to complain incessantly on the “Angry Bird app”.
Class consciousness has been KO’ed by a sucker punch from the vested interests.
    Time for the smelling salts…………

  5. Meanwhile the District Police Commanders has publicly condemned Mallard’s nasty moves against the protesters saying it’s made things worse. How embarrassing for the government!

Of course this can easily be resolved – end vaccine mandates and put a date on the ending of masking requirements. Surely everyone has at long last realized it’s all bullshit?

    • Of course the Prime Minister needs to be asked “does she support the police or Mallard?” but we know what will happen…she won’t be asked any pre-approved questions.

And the media wonders why no one trusts them?

    • This rabble speak for a few malcontents and they are beating a drum on many claims so just ending mandates will not satisfy some . Even professional protestors like John Minto say they are wrong in their approach.
Move the vehicles with forklifts and us water cannon on the protestors . They need a bath after living in shit for days on end .
All children should be removed before they get really sick.

      • Yes Minto did say that but he also said to let them be. This will go away.

The government are stupid for not giving a date to finish the mandate.

At that point teachers etc. could go back to their jobs. It is idiotic that a teacher twice vaccinated can get covid and give it to people but someone not vaccinated could regularly tested could be teaching in a classroom just the same as the teacher in the classroom next door. Both could get it and both could pass it on.

      • Agreed. Hell when Muldoon was PM he brought in the riot squad who didnt hesitate to beat the crap out of us!

    • Tell the surgeons in operating theatres that mask wearing is bs!
If you ever go under the knife, please insist they dont wear masks!

    • Andrew. Yep. Mallard’s ineptness has made things worse, including for the police dealing with the demonstrators, and now the PM and others are very conveniently leaving it all up to the police to sort – and with their hands tied : Mallard wouldn’t even turn the sprinklers off when asked to, by the police. The cops are the people out there in the front line being personally abused, not trouble-maker Trevor and his media cronies watching safely from the balcony up above. He really is a piece of work.

Saturday night was a wild and stormy night in Wellington, and Sunday morning I was concerned for those children being sprinkled on by order of Trevor Mallard. I see it as child abuse, sanctioned by the state.

  6. If these people protesting at Parliament are a ‘working class rabble’ as you put it Martyn, why aren’t they protesting against low wages, high living costs, housing, cannabis law reform and other working class issues? So far it appears they have only subscribed to conspiracy theory bs to do with vaccines.

  7. There is no power on earth stronger than white middle class fear of smelly working class people

This goes back to Hillary and “deplorables”, Marie Antoinette and “cake”.

The lack of respect for the “lower orders” by the Email Zoom castes is at the root of the protests.

Our middle classes swallowing official science and government propaganda so uncritically, yet accusing the untermenschen of following conspiracy theory, misinformation. That really is deplorable.

    • nick you’re right about the conditions that brought this about but that doesn’t make their cause right.

and it’s undeniable that many of their slogans are not backed by fact..so what would you prefer they be labelled ‘conspiracy theories’ or ‘delusional beliefs’?

      • Gagarin, try “debatable beliefs”. I’ve got some skill in stays, using CDC figures, UK NHS figures, WHO figures, all published official data I have done some basic tests. These indicate you could drive a bus through holes in the official government and media stories. They also support a number of antivax contentions. The problem with the stats however is that they raise more questions than answers. My position on this is that doubt is our most valuable tool, not entrenched positions.

        • indeed doubt is good, these protesters have an ideological position that is immune to doubt because it’s based on ‘feel feels’ though
and that’s a different kettle of worms.

          • Nick J offered figures from official data that doubt drives a bus through and your response is ‘indeed doubt is good but…’ without any further discussion of those dispositions? You show no interest in what that could mean to the purpose of this struggle ? That it might be government lying is the problem ?
identifies an ideological position immune to evidence against it.

            • yes years of lies from all politicos does play into it, and they are in the position of ‘the boy who cried wolf’ that’s why it’s beholden on us all to use our own judgement not ‘the internet school of advanced virology’

    • Good call. Here we have a protest being smeared as a right-wing-fascist-led manipulation! A smear because no one has provided verifiable evidence to the big claims being made. A news article that says something is ‘so’ does not make it ‘so’ if there is no evidence for what the article is peddling. And yet the anti-protest brigade not only laps this type of baseless information up, they shout it to the rafters also!

As if that behavior isn’t troublesome enough, remembering of course that they thought this protest to be a feral, lunatic, leaderless mob just a few days ago, but they accuse the colourfully named mob of behaving exactly as ‘they’ are behaving now, with a bit of added colour thrown into the mix – the mob source their material from the outer reaches of dark space while ‘they’ source their information from the always benevolent corporate/government media.

Almost makes me nostalgic, already, for the colourful names of yesterday. But no, now we’ve got a new level of dirt to deal with in NZ’s political landscape, with said dirt designed for one purpose only – to undermine the message by attacking the messenger!

    • “official science ”

      1) What’s that?
      2) What sort of science, if any, do you recommend instead of whatever the “official” stuff is, and why?

      • Official science is the “established facts” according to our political authorities. It may be true, it may be false. Scientists often dissagree, methods and results are questioned. Science should be challenged. Official science is however that delivered as divine truth.

  8. The logical conclusion to all cults is violence. The covid cult is no different. As Omnishambles is shown to be a mild flu to 99% of the population the fear, control and rush to big government will diminish. People will see Trevor’s actions for what they are – a temper tantrum.

Normally there is a walk back from politicians regarding changing politics. This is going to be difficult for the Blairite and poor man’s Gordon Brown given their all-in strategy and the remaining cultists (25% of Labour’s vote).

    • and by your own estimation then frankie, this mob of numpties are certain to turn violent too, actually more violent would be accurate as spitting their germ laden mouth effluent on other humans, can be seen as assault.

  9. The Feral Lunatics are on the balcony and in the offices of that parliament. Those on the lawns are citizens that have the guts full of these white collar wankers that have not at all been affected.
We are all in the Same Storm, but non of us is in the nice Yacht Jacinda and her band of useless fucks its. WE are in the paddle and rowing boats. This is just them without their masks on. Naked and Ugly as fuck.

  10. I hate to bring it up, but my SiL is one of those ‘woke’ activists calling on the police to smash the protestors. It is a sad indictment that most of the far left groups that protest the most and demand change the most are often just as fast to call for the destruction of those they oppose ‘by any means necessary’ as those on the right. Often I have found they are far less tolerant of differing views and less willing to take time to understand differing views than the actual vast majority of people.
I think a lot of the protestors are idiots, but there are a large enough group that have a valid point about the mandates that they should be able to protest. A friend near Levin has only had 2 jabs and wont gt any boosters as he had heart and breathing issues for 2 days after the second and he is rightfully scared of going through it again. Once his second jab runs out he is banned from a large chunk of society. His disagreement with the mandate is valid. Calling for the destruction of the entire protest just because some of the protestors are unreasonable sets a bad precedent as most protests have their share of unreasonable morons in the crowd. Just a pathetic reaction from this government who belive that whatever they say is the truth regardless of any information to the contrary.

    • Find someone in the protest mob or holding a placard in Whangarei or Whanganui and see if they believe that whatever they say is the truth regardless of any information to the contrary.

Let’s get rid of the Government which sources the information it thinks is best and makes decisions or get a cretin from Kaikohe or wanker from Waitaki to run things?

    • Its also a pathetic reaction to go after people exercising their own right to get vaccinated and wear masks if they wish. I think there is a difference in putting up with “morons” for a day. Its completely different went its a week and counting.

    • Its also a “pathetic” reaction to go after people exercising their own rights to get vaccinated, wear a mask, or vaccinate their kids. Unfortunately that appears to be on the agenda for an unquantified number of those in attendance.

    • So this seems to have been misunderstood. There are morons involved in the protests. Tjose calling for banning of the vaccines and all sorts of more fringe beliefs, also included for me would be the Trump fans. However there are still people engaged and or supportive of the protest who are vaccinated, but are against the strict mandates around access to things because of the mandate. I pointed out a friend who had a horrible reaction to the vaccine and isnt getting the booster. This doesn’t mean they are anti-vax or against othera getting jabs. Nut they are going to be banned from a lot of public places in about 2 months when their pass expires.

These sort of people in these situations need answers and the government and the Ministry of Health are outright ignoring them. My friend asked questions about the booster and his fears of reactions again. He was told get the jab or go home. No options, not even an alternative vacvine despite AZ supposedly being imported for this reason.

Yes there are nutters in the protests, but also nutters in power peddling some BS, and a lot of people aren’t getting the answers the government swears they are. Had Mallard or the PM or reps from the office attempted to engage any of the reasonable factions of the protest I would feel very differently compared to the current attitude of “get them out of sight.” At least the police were trying to manage yhings and keep them calm. Arrogance from Mallard has simply angered and emboldened the more radical, making the chance of problems much much greater.

  11. On the positive side it gives the media something different to write about other than RATs of some bleeding heart story about MIQ.

  12. This week-old incident is widely publicised and has the interest of a majority of the country. No sign of the Police Commissioner, Police Minister or Dear Leader as yet. No-one has a clue.
This may be a blueprint for the next few protests that do cover the costs of living and other issues faced by the class of people at the bottom of NZ society.
I hope this will be resolved peacefully. As stated by others it would be so easy to do by giving a timeline for ending mandates etc.
No one gets hurt either physically or politically (no more than already).

    • do you really think bannon and his cohorts are going to fund demos addressing genuine issues in NZ LIKE THEY HAVE THIS SHAMBLES…do me a favour.

in a fluid situation fixed timelines are just not possible and if one was cancelled by say a new strain of covid the numpties would be barking at the door again….and the covid situation worldwide IS in flux….let’s hope for milder and milder variants..but that IS NOT guaranteed..not by any means

  13. Prediction time.

I’m 100% certain Mallard is history in the role of Speaker of the House. His position is now absolutely untenable.

His decision making process has been questioned many times. Yet another example of that resulted in significant tax payer compensation being paid out in 2021 to the target of Mallard’s perspective.

Turning sprinklers on protestors and playing loud music at them is child like. Totally out of order from a person in his position. They were only ever going to strengthen the resolve of the protestors and potentially gain sympathy for them.

What really bends Mallard over a table are the comments made about his actions by the Police.

Mallard mistakenly foolishly, naively and arrogantly believed all political parties and the media were on the same page with his actions. If that was ever the case it was a 100% formality that dynamic would change very quickly. That is now unfolding.

Remember ex Health Minister David Clarke in July 2020 just a few months after the pandemic arrived here? He “resigned” after Ardern got sick of his relatively minor transgressions being turned onto her by the opposition and the media. Both Clarke and Ardern said it had become a “distraction’ when the Government was fighting Covid. We have EXACTLY the same dynamic now. The opposition and the media will turn on Ardern over Mallard. Nek minute, “Mallard has resigned as speaker of the house as the focus on him was becoming an unwelcome distraction”

Mallard couldn’t possibly have played his hand any worse than he has and will pay a high price for that.

The protestors and the opposition will rightfully claim this as a victory. The fallout for Ardern won’t go unnoticed. The Government will also suffer a denting in public confidence that such a high ranking Government MP has had to “resign”….cough cough.

    • All the same, lawn sprinklers and Barry Manilow and James Blunt.
      Epic response. Funny as hell.

Far more damage was done by MSM livestreaming the event as if it were a bloody cricket test.

      • Richard Christie,

Ten years ago I’d be splitting my sides laughing at what Mallard was doing. I would have sent him a bucket load of vile smelling potion and a few really annoying Christmas songs to drive them nuts with but those days are gone. The only way Mallard was going to get a free pass now is if the media and the opposition decided not to turn on him. That’s a fail. Mallard has self inflicted bullet wounds in both feet.

  14. This is easy to end. Just Give the rabble a pathway out of the mandates over the course of this year. Doesnt have to be instant.

  15. This kind of interclass turmoil is age old. Middle class are still workers, they just don’t like to think so–unless they are service industry or SME owners perhaps–who like to think their burnout is something to be proud of.

40 years of neo liberal hegemony has certainly given the class bag a shake as full time employment and life time careers morphed into contracting out and precarious work. Highly qualified Uber drivers!

I can tell TDB readers that back in the ’81 Tour winter, the people that gave me the hardest time as a visible anti tour supporter were working class people. A cop in a skip bin dented my helmet with a downward directed two handed baton blow at the final test at Eden Park. But most threats to my well being during those months came from swandri wearing true blue pro tour kiwis. Good old heartland and inner city kiwis screaming for “the rugby!!” The Stop the Tour campaign was largely middle class run and supported. Not exclusively, when the going got tough the working class elements were there alright.

Working class are the best people on their day in tight situations, as I know having helped lead lengthy strikes over the years. But they can also be reactionary, cruel bastards. Social media has played a role but do not cast working class and alienated elements as merely dupes of Steve Bannon and Zuckerberg–they are quite capable of being unpleasant sods all on their own as NZ domestic violence and suicide rates test.

  16. Ha. I think the whole thing was a boring fizzer if I must be honest
    “These feral lunatics…”
I don’t think they were feral lunatics, were they? While I personally don’t entirely agree with some of the issues they were protesting against. Not dying of a lab built virus is a better idea than refusing a vaccine on moral grounds is difficult to argue against.
I thought good on them actually. I also think that any action is good action. I like seeing people rise up out of their armchairs, dump the Brawndo in the bin then go out and make a din. I thought the protestors were quite brave and committed actually. They got the rats out of their well padded nests at least as can be seen by them seen scuttling about on the ramparts.
And why are we surprised about Quack mallard? He’s a died in the nylon neoliberal. He’s also a bully in dire need of a wee spanking but who cares? He’s a nobody like goff. A couple of losers who’ve puffed and pranced their way into politics because they were too useless for anything else.
The real and actual enemy, for the want of a better word, wasn’t the genuine protestors. It was almost certainly the status quo ( Not the band) keepers, the confederates who would have been planted within those groups of people to act to a carefully written script. Aye boys?
‘Ground Swell’ renamed ‘ Ag Action’? I mean, really? Is that the best you morons can come up with? And I don’t mean desperate farmers, I mean the deep state neoliberal-capitalists AKA fascists who dwell within polite society, who fly above our politics ( literally and metaphorically ) and who manipulate our news media and infiltrate our systems of governance.
Roger douglas, the pig pimp in a cheap suit. Remember it? It and his colleagues up ended our AO/NZ then poured all our money into his, and his cronies pocketsesssss nearly 40 years ago.
And he’s getting clean away with it while well intended people get soaked by a short little duck-man in a fit of diddle stiffening power freaking.
Sometimes… actually everytime’s, a situation like [this] must be looked at from every conceivable angle and perspective, not matter how absurd or desperate we might think the view might be.
A German film Director once told me ” Azzumptions, zey’re ze mozzer off all fuck ups.”
I have a question? Why were rebellious members of our primary industry calling all to arms to sit on the lawns out the front of OUR parliament buildings to protest something as absurd as not getting vaccinated and that we must all think of the children, the children, the children…?
    Ok. Two questions:
Why do a title change mid way through protesting ? From ‘Ground Swell’ to ‘Ag Action’ ? Trust me, I’m a farmer and I know a rat when I smell one.
In my humble opinion ‘Ground Swell’ and ‘Ag Action’ are a composite of deep state agents dispatched to quell any rebellious, proper and meaningful ground being gained by our bank enslaved agrarian primary industry and I firmly believe that all of this… all of it, comes from within the crypts where old stolen/sequestered/swindled/appropriated/agrarian primary industry money’s hidden.
Our farmers have ultimate power in AO/NZ. They don’t need to fuck about being hosed down by an expensive nutter while being forced to listen to Barry Manilow. All our farmers have to do is nothing.

  17. As far as I can see from the live feed, many of the protestors look like genetic sports from the deepest wop-wops. My daughter works in a pub in central Wellington and yesterday a middle-aged woman, when asked to show her vacc pass, through a punch. Somehow, my daughter, working alone at that time, managed to get the woman and her three buddies out (perhaps with help from the few customers). I have absolutely no sympathy for these misinformed, uneducated, primitive, vulgar and unmannered creatures outside of parliament.

  18. And how do you think a time-line can be formulated Magit, when it appears we are just coming into the acceleration phase of omicron and don’t have the measure of the beast for NZ conditions. Oh yeah, we could pull the answer from fresh air – just like the ‘simple’ solution.

    • Agreed AOM. Alternatively what if you said, assuming no new mutations the mandate ends in six months? I am quite sure this would not be a satisfactory answer to a number of anti mandate protestors.

    • There is no need of time-line, the mandates and passports can be revoked immediately as they do not work against spreading Omicron at all. My grandson in Europe double vaccinated plus booster, wearing mask, showing passport where necessary, got it. In 5 days he was back in work.

      • Alexandra Corbett Dekanova, you are simply confused.
Vaccinations are showing weak efficacy at slowing transmission but continue to provide strong protection against severe disease.
Mandates and passports continue to have a place in public health management and prevention of Covid disease here in NZ.

        • Nevertheless, he spread the virus to other members of the family. And this is the point. The passport does not mean that a person is not infected. Vaccinated spread the virus the same way as unvaccinated. Vaccination is private benefit, not public benefit. Those who should for their sake avoid public places are older people and immuno compromised, not the unvaccinated.

          • and the vaxxed amongst his contacts are less likely to be very ill….it’s not who can pass it, but the comparative effects likely on vaxxed and un vaxxed..

            • But the vaccine mandates and passports are about catching and spreading the virus. To prevent full hospitals the immuno compromised should be restricted from public places, they are at risk regardless of their vaccination status in Omicron era.

  19. 1 question martyn just the one…when this rag tag band of numpties demonstrate against abortion, or gay rights or the teaching of evolution, or graphic novels, or demand both sides of the holocaust be taught, will you repeat this exact same homily? because that’s exactly where this evangelical money will go next if jacinda folds.

  20. Well this govt. specialises in making things up as they go along so it should be a piece of cake for them. If they’re not sure they could channel Marie Antoinette.
In reality we are 90% vaxxed, the mandates have done their job along with the carnage of teacher, nurses etc. workforce reduction. What have they got to lose? They don’t do embarrassment and have plenty of experience with u-turns.

  21. BREAKING …”Protesters have struck back at Mallard by signing him up as a member of the National Party, the Act Party – and to Pornhub.
He said within five minutes he had three subscribers on Pornhub, and another three people wanted to be friends.”
A goat and a farmer and his mate.

Mallard the duck is about to get ‘owned!’

  22. Geez some water and music on a pack of miscreants is seen as abusive and inflamatory. Maybe the author wouldve prefered the speaker take a Muldoon approach by bringing out the riot squad to beat the begeezers out of the protestors?.

  23. National and Act are also losers here and have lost support from their voters for their dismissive attitude towards the protest

    • So we’ve got a house of parliament full of losers. So what your point?
Tell us something we didn’t know Cindy.

    • You obviously do not know any Act or National voters as the ones I know would suggest the police used water cannon and put a tank over their illegelly parked vehicles rather than talk to them

  24. My plan is employ reverse physiology no more music, sprinklers lights. Remove their cars, bring more porta loos get the army to bring in field kitchen and just leave them till the Wellington weather especially the Southerly just wears them down.

    • tedhesth. Exactly. There’s no reason why these people cannot occupy that space so long as they don’t clog up the streets or abuse law-abiding others going about their day- to -day business. They don’t really need the army, Bishop Brian and other nutters can take care of them.

      It’s people space, not Trevor’s.

  25. I was wondering how Jacinda was going to spin her way out of this. Didn’t take long: she simply labelled them “anti-vaxxers.” Funny that, these folks are protesting mandatory vaxing and losing their jobs (and their place in the team of 5 million I suppose?). They made it clear they are not anti-vax but anti mandate. So have all the media reporting them as anti mandators. But Jacinda says they are anti-vax, so they better be anti-vax.

    • So the the protester holding the sign ” Epstein didn’t kill himself” falls into which of your categories?

Mandatory vaxing or losing their job?

      • bert,

I think that comes from a different category Bert.

        This one:

“The clueless and delusional that want to protest but can’t make up their mind what to protest about”.

Epstein, Tamaki not being the Pope or Save the Snails.

        Eeny meeny miny moe…….

    • Krautenstein, Kraut by any other name.

Most people who are eligible to get vaccinated and don’t…..are anti-vax. Vaccine hesitant is just a softer way of saying anti-vax and looking like another expert-novice eggplant with a Facebook-Youtube degree. Have you noticed what percentage of the Wellington protestors are wearing a mask? Add that to their anti list. What a shame they haven’t tweeked to the fact we are in a Pandemic and with a variant 8 x more transmissible than the highly contagious Delta variant. They want others to respect their “freedom’ ……while displaying complete disdain for the freedoms of the rest of us who’ve made considerable sacrifices for the greater good of us all. Unselfish logic v selfish logic. Spot the difference.

If they had got jabbed they likely wouldn’t give a monkeys toss about vaccine mandates. Instead they would understand the need for a mandate. I value my freedom and that of my loved ones. I want my elderly folks especially to feel safe going for a coffee and muffin. They don’t deserve to have some unvaccinated selfish know it all fuckwit going into the venue minus a face mask demanding their poxy freedom. Fuck them and their bullshit misinformation, lies and conspiracies.

      • TM
Ok, scenario: what if every anti-vax person in your ‘venue’ was covid negative, and every vaxxed person in that venue was covid positive? That blows your theory because it’s quite possible

        • it would mean the vaxxed would probably live the unvaxxed might not….it doesn’t matter what outlandish scenarios you float…that basic metric still applies..my little heap of fermented cabbage

      • You are one hell of a self-righteous idiot, Thinking-man.

How is your elderly folks at danger from the unvaccinated? Omicron, even more than Delta, is being spread around by vaxxed. The places of interest are continually vax-exclusive. Israel is up to fourth shot and yet its infection rare climbs. The vaccine is stuck attacking an original spike protein and boosters will no doubt diminish against Omicron in a few months.

Even if they your elderly folks were at risk – where was your outrage from flu deaths, heart disease, and drivers before? I don’t recall anyone arguing for unvaxxed for flu, the obese, or bad drivers lose their job, access to public facilities, and societel alienation.

Human rights, including the right to refuse medical treatment, are so fundamental to a democracy that you need one hell of a big justification to override it. The current state of our vaccines – forever diminishing and can’t even stop transmission – is so underwhelming justification for a mass, public mandate and Soviet-like passports and for a disease that is so bias towards harming the elderly and obese and IFR even lower than Delta.

I’m sorry but your “but my mum” shit is emotional-ladden, dumb af reasoning. And don’t give me some “but the hospitals” – we don’t have one person in ICU right now and modelling has consistently excessively overrated serious illness.

Just as a lack of polling-booths doesn’t negate your right to vote, a Government failure to improve ICU capacity AT ALL doesn’t negate fundamental human rights. I don’t exist to respect, protect, and fulfil human rights – the Government does – try read every any human rights Treaty which starts with this at the top.

Covid has so labotomised your brain in ass-ended thinking you sound like a Government sycophant repeating nonsense until you believe your own lies. Governments around the world have figured out the cost/benefit is ridiculously out of whack here.

Surveys show the most vaccinated are the most fearful of Covid. Like all the Wellingtonians pissing themselves scared and not turning up to Jury Duty despite being overwhelming vaxxed and masked up everywhere.

The reality? It’s a fearful-fulled, political response. The solution? I suggest all the Covid-labotomisers like yourself go live somewhere else and can enjoy your Authoritarian hellhole whilst us normal people who enjoy democracy, proportionality, and common sense can get on with our lives.

          • gagarin,

Probably only two weeks bro. My prediction is we will have fifteen thousand plus new cases a day by the end of February. Proportionately, that will result in x number of cases in ICU.

Fairly certain the Wellington protest will become a super spreader event so that 15k number could easily blow right out.

          • In a month or less time you will not distinguish between vaccinated and unvaccinated but between healthy and ill.
We should finally try to live by common sense as we did during previous epidemias.

            • and who will the healthy/mild cases largely consist of?
and who will the unhealthy and possibly very sick consist of?…

answers on a postcard to the usual address.

        • Gordon,

Personal abuse off the bat = you lose the argument in your first sentence. Well done!

Next time try pausing for breath before highlighting who and what you are.

We haven’t discussed the “other” health issues you chose to raise so how would you know my perspective in those areas or is making wild sweeping generalizations your all day every day habit? It would appear so.

I’m sure you’re aware of the high profile nurses protesting about safe staffing levels etc in recent years? Do you believe those levels have suddenly been remedied? ICU is not the only area of concern in our hospitals. The more people that are admitted, the more pressure goes on the entire system. As a result, almost everyone suffers including more and more hospital staff who become close contacts or positive cases themselves. Do you honestly believe our hospitals can cope with losing important medical / clinical staff and it not negatively impact across the board? If so, you are even more ignorant than you appear.

Has your anti vax, anti mandate stance been consistent since the vaccine was available? If ICU is your only benchmark, how was your stance when we had the Delta variant and more people in ICU?

Fact is, the more people that contract Omicron, the more people will inevitably end up in ICU. Will your stance change then? Most people with a brain bigger than a sultana have grasped the fact you can’t wait until you’re in ICU to make a decision on getting vaccinated.

Security is only as strong as it’s weakest link. Tits on a bull to have unvaccinated people wearing no face masks mixing with the vaccinated population and having expert-novices saying that’s fine and reasonable. It’s not and that’s why we need mandates. The selfish wankers that think they know more than the experts who devoted their career and life to science.

I’m all in favour of people having the “freedom’ not to seek health treatment for themselves. That all goes out the window during a deadly pandemic where your decision can have serious implications on the health of others. This is why cigarette smoking laws were implemented and Covid is that situation with bells on.

As an aside. I will share some personal history. When our first daughter was born we did “research” on the vaccines she would be having. I was mortified with what I read. The vaccine being used in NZ was apparently the cheap generic version and devastating consequences such as brain seizures in healthy babies that were not rare and were being kept from the public. We made what we believed was an informed decision not to have any of our kids vaccinated. I should point out that I have multiple family and friends in the health profession. Most in senior positions. They were aghast at my decision. Everything changed when I took one of my kids to the doctor but not in the way you may expect. The doctor asked me about the vaccination status of my child. I explained I had made an informed decision not to have my children vaccinated. He laughed at me and dismissed my research as garbage. I’m 1.96 m tall. I weigh 125 kg and I’m covered in ink. I’ve never been laughed at and dismissed in the way the doctor did. I decided he must be fucking sure of what he was saying to be so disrespectful. This more than anything else motivated me to do more objective research. It was only then I discovered the anti-vax movement and the obscene tactics they routinely use. I felt genuinely embarrassed that I had been suckered in by it all.

My wife was heavily involved in the HPV and Meningitis vaccine campaigns. The sort of misinformation she witnessed was unbelievable. Every anti-vaxer were adamant they couldn’t possibly be wrong and were impossible to deal with. They specialized in totally misrepresenting facts to support their stance. This invariably involved omitting vitally important and highly relevant facts.

Yes, I’m concerned for my elderly parents regardless of what simpletons spout off. Most elderly have a number of Comorbidities. They invariably take extra precautions to stay safe…..and alive. The prospect of some arrogant arsewipe refusing to wear a mask and refusing to get vaccinated only to pass on the virus to them infuriates me. Nothing any eggplant says will make a blind bit of difference on that score. I could fill the town hall with what you don’t know.

You’re obviously not strong on math. I’m in the majority that support vaccination and understand the need for mandates. The Wellington protestors are exactly why we need mandates. I’m not a person who gets bogged down with fear. I understand and respect science. What you’re advocating is the majority of the NZ population that are vaccinated and understand mandates should go live elsewhere because a very small percentages of ignoramuses haven’t got the intellect to understand what democracy actually means.

          Democracy:

          Government by the people
especially : rule of the majority

As for the “hellhole” you believe we live in. The same hellhole that has one of the lowest death rates from Covid on the planet due to the way it’s been managed here. We and our loved ones are a long time dead. If you’re genuine about believing NZ is a hellhole, please fuck off as son as possible.

Wake up to yourself. There still may be time.

  26. You obviously do not know any Act or National voters as the ones I know would suggest the police used water cannon and put a tank over their illegelly parked vehicles rather than talk to them

  27. This is gonna play out like Ihumatao.
Peaceful like Ihumatao. Well resourced like Ihumatao.
    Friendly like Ihumatao.
Except for. It’s not an occupation of private land that is now part of a Treaty Settlement for Tainui Waikato. Whereas this protest is on public land in front of parliament next to a $350,000 kiddies slide and woodchip play ground.

Oh, anyone who supports the right to protest is right wing because the latte lefties said so!

  28. they were offered safe parking at the stadium, that’d clear the streets for wellingtonians and they could stay on the lawn…did they take it up…NO d’ya know why? the people behind this see compromise as weakness and so up the ante…that IS a lesson from the US evangelical right playbook.

    • Yes this is terrible optics taken by the protesters, take down Wellinhton businesses at all costs.
I might start up my own protest against the protesters..” Clear The Streets”!!!

        • You know what I find really concerning? The police gave the protesters an opportunity to support Wellington’s business community by removing their vehicles allowing for Sky stadium to house those vehicles. They rejected the offer by holding a party instead. Any credibility the protesters had was lost in that one defiant act.
