UNBELIEVABLE: New Oranga Tamariki footage will explode

What the hell just happened? Barely hours after Kelvin Davis shows his slavish devotion to Oranga Tamariki and promises to be a more captured Minister than Carmel Sepeloni is, and what do Oranga Tamairki do to their new Minister?

They throw Kelvin Davis under a fucking bus just as Parliament is opening!!!

NO ONE told him that Newsroom had just published a damning new Oranga Tamariki documentary THAT OT HAD KNOWN ABOUT where OT staff are now stealing Māori children off white step families AFTER TELLING the kids this was a ‘forever home’. The white elderly couple who had opened up their lives to these young children, SOLD THEIR HOUSE to buy  a bigger one for these kids after they had been told the placement was permanent!

I mean, if you wanted a more damaging incendiary device in NZ politics, you would need to plant a pipe bomb in a vegan kindergarten!

Oranga Tamariki, terrified that their despicable uplift program is getting them in trouble with their new political masters are now investigating all previous placements, finding the new families are ‘too white’ and now – DESPITE TELLING  THE KIDS AND CARERS THAT THIS PLACEMENT WAS PERMANENT,  Oranga Tamariki are just stealing them back!!!

These despicable, arse covering, Wellington bureaucrats are just jaw dropping in their venal self preservation skills aren’t they?

Kelvin Davis has been set up, the Government has been set up and Oranga Tamariki are showing the type of self interest that would make your average drug cartel blush.

This is a political emergency, once the rest of white NZ understands what Oranga Tamariki were doing here this will explode with rage because stealing babies off Maori is tolerated, removing them from elderly white folk who have sold their house and been told the placement was permanent, oh sweet Jesus, Oranga Tamariki may as well have taken a shit on an ANZAC memorial war grave while wearing a ‘Meat is murder & Rugby is dumb’ T-shirt.

Kelvin either fires Grainne Moss now or he gets really cruel and reads more of his Poetry to every Oranga Tamriki staff member.

I joke, but Labour is fucked here.

This is going to explode.

  1. Can’t fucken win can they!
So 7aa forces OT to seek to place children within whanau, hapu and iwi before non-kin care – yes the impact will be to take Maori children of non-Maori families with whom they have developed attachment and are safe and loved – to be placed with some unknown but hapu or iwi connected family they don’t know. The children suffer – the noon-kin carers withdraw their services and so there are less caregivers in the pool to care for the children coming into care due to abuse and severe neglect.
Those against OT simply hate children – nuff said

  2. The government hasn’t been set up. This is what happens when you have poor performers in tough cabinet positions. It happened with Clark in Health, Twyford in housing/transport and it will happen anywhere that Davis is involved in. The government has had 3 years to sort this out instead they collectively sat on their fist with regard to this festering turd of a department. A lot of blame has to be apportioned to Martin as well as one has to ask what was she doing for 3 years with this ministry.

This is the start – all the structural and performance-related issues in NZ are now all on the Government to fix. No 9-years-of-neglect; no Winstonbrake; no excuse about being a unexpected government/PM. This is where the rubber hits the road.

With Seymour and Collins in opposition you can expect these issues to be highlighted and exaggerated. There will no gentlemanly Bill or speech-challenged Simon this time. Say what you like about Collins these type of issues are fodder for her cannon.

    • Frank when Seymour and Collins were in government under their watch more EX PARTE orders were enforced than ever. They rebranded CYFS and they put all their cronies in who came from areas that have nothing to do with social work only one had any experience or qualifications in social work practises. This set up this organisation to fail miserably and to add to the fire they employed a CEO who was a foreign women to run OT and she has no expertise in this area and she also has a proven track record of corporate bullying.
So stop blaming the wrong people and can you be a bit more balanced.

  3. Unbelievable, literally unbelievable. This is child abuse from the Ministry responsible for the well being of children.

Nothing can undo the trauma caused by that Ministry to these vulnerable children. Cultural sensitivity has gone mad in this country when it is used to justify cruelty. Everyone involved should be dispensed with and not allowed anywhere near children ever again – but every party needs to explain itself first, every party, regardless of colour.

    • Snow White: “Nothing can undo the trauma caused by that Ministry to these vulnerable children.”

But hang on: isn’t it Maori who are insisting that Maori children be placed with extended family, not with non-Maori foster parents?

Given that a large proportion of OT staff are Maori, surely they’re just doing what their people want them to do?

Seems as if they can’t win either way.

      • FFS are yo this basic or are you doing it on fucking purpose?

NO ONE is fucking saying this is appropriate clown.

You passive aggressive racism is starting to wear thin.

So let me stipulate it in very short sentences for you to understand.

WHEN a child is identified as being in immediate danger and the child is Māori – THAT IS WHEN OT should step in WITH IWI to facilitate a safe home with extended whanau with support measures wrapped around the family so the kids can go back.

THAT DOES NOT MEAN taking children who are already housed and told they are there permanently.

Do you do this on purpose D’Esterre?

          • covid is pa: “Yes d estirer is a fucken stirrer a shit stirrer.”

Young person: I don’t call you names; kindly refrain from doing that to me.

Present a countervailing argument. If you cannot do that, best to keep shtum.

      • If Oranga Tamariki has policy which advises removing children from the security of an established home because the colours don’t match, then the policy itself is fundamentally flawed, and the policy makers must be called to account.

If Oranga Tamariki has policy which advises lying to children, and telling them that they have a permanent home knowing full well that their own processes can negate this further along the track, then the policy itself is terribly flawed, and the policy makers must be called to account.

If Oranga Tamariki has policy which shows young children that adults cannot be taken at their word, and that adults are untrustworthy, and will let them down, then the policy is flawed etc.

If Oranga Tamariki has policy which suggests to children, that they need to be removed from white people with whom they are happy simply because they are white, those poor children, at the very least, are going to be very confused, and any policy is fundamentally flawed which confuses children and treats them like ideological packages,
and policy makers need to explain why they advise doing this.

It is the policy makers who seem to be at fault in this instance. Round about the time MBA’s became flavour of the month, arts grads were also flocking off training to be policy advisers, but they are just as likely to come from Sth Africa, the UK, or anywhere. Govt Dept managers need policy advisers to explain their jobs to them.

  4. If she (Moss) had any dignity or pride she would resign immediately but she doesn’t want to, it seems she would rather her contract be terminated so she can get a big fat pay out. The sad things this documentary highlights is its the children that are getting hurt from the very people who are suppose to be protecting them. This also highlights that those in charge are not suited for the role. If we did an audit on the various government departments you will find a mismatch of people in critical roles. For example some people might have accountancy skills but they have no knowledge of managing or caring or looking after or understanding complex issues regarding people and behaviour they only know how to manage money. Can we see why so many of our government organisations continue to fail when many are top heavy with mostly Pakeha executives who cannot relate to those they are employed to help, protect or care for.

    • Tuibelle: “stick a rocket under her arse light it and watch her explode into a million smithereens.”

Crikey. I hope that’s not a death threat.

      • Well figuratively, Tuibelle’s verbalisation of intense frustration might conceivably be interpreted as a death threat by someone with an agenda. On the other hand, the actions of OT in its current and previous incarnations are a serious and sometimes fatal risk to fragile lives – as has been shown time and time again.

        • aom: “On the other hand, the actions of OT in its current and previous incarnations are a serious and sometimes fatal risk to fragile lives – as has been shown time and time again.”

No. The people who kill babies and children are solely responsible. Not OT, or any of its previous iterations.

        • covid is pa: “No she means a sky rocket D estere.”

Still sounds like a death threat.

And kindly spell my nom correctly. I do you the courtesy of making sure that your nom is right.

  5. Social services can’t win, if a child is killed or abused questions are asked, where is the intervention, if there is intervention they are child snatchers .
Best they devolve the department and let the care givers hurt and kill their kids as it must be part of the culture.and respected as such.
I was uplifted by Social Welfare from my fathers care in the late 60s as a 9 year old and placed with foster parents and all I can say is thanks so much for the States intervention . My father was a nut job and extremely violent, without the intervention I had no future.. I will for ever appreciate the help and support I was given by the State and especially my foster parents.

    • I am glad you were taken away from abusive caregivers. Many stories like this, one on my own family. Sick of people shitting on people doing a difficult job. Having said this I have no idea if OTs CEO is incompetent or not

  6. covid is pa: “….they employed a CEO who was a foreign women to run OT and she has no expertise in this area and she also has a proven track record of corporate bullying.”

Gráinne Moss is Irish. That by itself doesn’t disqualify her, I’d have thought. As to having no expertise: she’s the CEO, not a social worker. She’s paid to run the ship, not to do the social workers’ job for them.

Corporate bullying? If you have evidence of that, let’s be seeing it. Otherwise, it’s just libel.

  7. Just sick of this pile on about OT.

I know well a number of social workers who work on the front line. They are passionate about the kids, compassionate towards the families whose severe dysfunction sees them under OT in the first place, they work bloody hard in an under resourced system and frankly are paid a pittance for the work they do. They are dammed if they do, dammed if they don’t and those two Hawkes Bay social workers received death threats after the videos of the uplift were broadcast. And worse still these staff never get to tell their side of the story.

Anyone who thinks there a simple solutions to the problem of child abuse in NZ is bloody naive.

We have OT because we have a very real problem. The child homicide stas speak for themselves. Blaming OT for not providing a perfect service is f…king ridiculous and unhelpful to say the least.
I don’t mind if Maori take over looking after at risk/vulnerable children, but I would be surprised is outcomes would be better. Possibly they would be worse. But we can’t just hand the problem over and say give it a go. It’s too serious for that.

Btw I speak as someone of a very close friend who adopted a Maori baby being brutally abused by his whanau. She is one of the lucky ones to have been adapted by great(Pakeha) parents. After all good parents can be Paheha or Maori. We all know that.

    • Anker – Social workers have little choice but to carry out dept policy. The NZ police hate having to carry out uplifts, many are parents themselves, I’ve talked with them about it, but they are constantly vilified as being out to get Maori babies by persons who should know better – but it suits their agendas to do so.

The fact that over 80% of New Zealanders objected to Sue Bradford’s anti- smacking bill, speaks for itself. The majority would have been white. Incredibly, Nelson’s white Amy Brooke bleating in some Aus outlet, criticises Dr Bradford for her Kiwi accent, and for being an alleged Marxist, neither of which have any bearing whatsoever on the actual issue of the violence which we inflict upon our beautiful children, but that’s typical of how shallow our commentators are.

The dark psyche of this country may well derive from its being settled by a plethora of damaged Irish, Scots, Scots- Irish (shockersJ and English, with a deficit of continental Europeans with cultural histories, which although often also historically oppressive and violent, have evolved culturally to a higher level than we have yet attained, and we may be too dumb and damaged to do so any time soon.

Devolving responsibility for damaged children onto whanau is simplistic, enables govt to conveniently side-step responsibility for a hugely complex and tragic situation, and does little for child victims from nice white middle class families, adept at keeping up appearances in their obsession with being seen to be respectable.

    • Anker: “Just sick of this pile on about OT.”

I completely agree with this. And with all the rest of your comment, come to that.

It seems to me that many of those shouting about OT have absolutely no idea at all how utterly awful the family situations are for so many of our children.

The great shame of NZ is the egregious levels of family violence, along with violence to, and gross neglect of, children.

And it’s the great shame of Maori society that the children OT must rescue are disproportionately Maori. The reasons for this lie, not in that horribly over-used term “racism”, but in the prevalence in that part of society of poverty, drugs, gangs and crime. Along with the sequelae of drug abuse and violence – mental illness and brain injuries.

“I don’t mind if Maori take over looking after at risk/vulnerable children….”

That was the shift in focus from the late 1980s: more Maori social workers, Maori children placed with extended family as a default practice. It didn’t stop the deaths and injuries then, either. No reason why it should, of course.

I’d add that by-Maori for-Maori services are segregation. Write it into law, and it’s apartheid, a racist system my generation fought against (successfully) in other parts of the world. How bizarre that anyone at all would be proposing such a system in NZ, which is supposed to be a modern, representative democracy.

  8. The link has been taken down; really upsetting to watch. Awfully sad. They didn’t (the caregivers ) look that elderly, Martyn.

  9. I have seen bad placements and what happens to some of the kids and it ain’t just in brown and poor families.
