Hate Speech & light rail kicked for touch – NZ First steps up as Labour’s Green handbreak & Jacinda is grateful

GRANT: “Winston calm down, you don’t even have to look him in the eyes”
WINSTON: “And Marama, I can ignore her too right”.
JACINDA: “Guys, kindness please, James is right there, he can hear us talking about him”.
JAMES: “….”

NZ First are back above 5%.

Muller’s extraordinary decision to open the door a crack for Winston has allowed NZ First to regain their kingmaker mystique while also appealing to conservatives who see National not winning but Winston applying a hand break to Green/Labour aspirations.

NZ First has shot down light rail, the Hate Speech Laws, the Sexual Assault amendments and Porn filters.

James Shaw has gotten angry, but what’s he going to do really? Grant & Jacinda are naturally very cautious politicians and are grateful for NZ First being the excuse they use for why progressive change can’t occur.

That’s enough culture war grandstanding and woke bashing to gain 5%+, especially as Muller banned himself from that type of Simon Bridges styled politics.

The worst outcome for NZs progressive political left would be for Labour to return to power requiring NZ First.

That’s why Labour have to be snookered into a majority result and on the last round of polling, they still get there even if NZ First return.

Ensuring that Labour are snookered into a majority result however is going to require tactical voting on behalf of the progressive left.

Last election, TDB called on progressive voters to vote Green to keep them above the threshold because Labour couldn’t win without the Greens. This year we will be releasing our tactical advice before early voting opens.

Next month is a huge Left wing hui before the election bringing together Greenpeace, Better Futures Forum, Child Poverty Action Group, State Housing Action, School Strike for Climate, Extinction Rebellion, Unite Union, Council of Trade Unions, Migrant Workers Association, Just Speak, Quality Public Education Coalition, Action Station, Auckland Action Against Poverty and People Against Prisons Aotearoa to put together a progressive policy platform we will call upon the next Government to implement as part of their first 100 days.

The Daily Blog will be carrying the livestream. Let’s see if we can give Jacinda and Grant the vision we need to see to support a second term of Labour.

  1. National have proven once again no understanding of MMP. For 9 years they dictated to other coalition parties.Apart from their bastard child ACT, all have gone by the wayside.
If parties can’t agree in coalition, that is the result of freedom of thoughts. This is why National failed at the last election. They were hellbent on being the only voice and trying to kill off the kingmaker. They have not learnt one lesson.

  2. James Shaw needs to be reminded of the old saying “he who sups with the devil needs a long spoon”

  3. Pretty bloody sad that voting in lil ‘ole NuZull that punches above its weight has been reduced to a game of chess – especially in an MMP environment (in the voters’ space, going forward). But apparently it has.
More fool “us” but there ya go. I still maintain things might have to get worse before they can get better.
If so ………. que sera sera.
There was ekshully a possibility and reason to pull the plug on all this a few weeks back and go early.
Cudda Shudda Wudda ……. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and good things take time (even though it isn’t mandatory)

  4. “Let’s see if we can give Jacinda and Grant the vision we need to see to support a second term of Labour.”

It’s not just vision we need to give them – they are Labour for goodness sake. We need to give them a rark up and get them back onto Labour Party principles instead of this neoliberal, BAU, don’t frighten the horses rubbish.

    • I agree with you RosieLee and to do this we need the Maori party to get some seats which I believe they can if our people on the Maori roll vote strategically.

  5. WHY IS THERE NO ONE INVITED to the HUI for a progressive change in the health perspective ???????????????

Is it because no one gives a damn about health ?

With out good health it is a waste of time campaigning for a progressive welfare change.

  6. The real shame is not that NZ First opposes “Hate Speech” legislation, but that Labour apparently supports it.

  7. Labour fans.
The election is in the bag. Crack open the bubbly.
    This Coalition thingy is hilarious.

  8. I agree with you RosieLee and to do this we need the Maori party to get some seats which I believe they can if our people on the Maori roll vote strategically.

  9. Despite winston 1st putting the brakes on a cgt which is bloody annoying, he often speaks common sense no bullshit and you know exactly what he’s talking about. NZ needs him in power to knock some sense into the rest of them including our PM. National need a firing squad.

  10. Anyone who imagines that a Labour Party in government without NZFirst will behave any differently than they do now is a dreamer.
The Labour Party claims to have good politicians in its ranks, yet Winston wins every blue there is no horse trading eg “We’ll hold off on Capital Gains Tax only if you back off on your work for car dealers & oil companies n let us get Light Rail through” etc. Jacinda hasn’t taken a trick in an entire electoral term.

That doesn’t happen by accident, it happens because Jacinda & the rest of her crew of ersatz lefties, deep down, don’t want to stop the rich getting richer & the rest of us going backwards.

Labour & the Greens numbers would have made them an effective opposition running a wedge between NZF pissed at Natz super leak about Winston and a Natz government. They could have got a lot more done and not lost credibility to the degree they have now.
But these careerists aren’t interested in what is good for Aotearoa, their back-pedaling over the last 3 years reveals a mob of egocentric turds who only care about what is good for them personally.
If it wasn’t an election year they would have happily signed up to the five eyes attacks on China despite it being an obvious set up.
eg see the nonsense the US pulled at the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty talks earlier this week.

The talks were meant to be between the US & Russia but Marshall Billingslea, the chickenhawk loon in charge of the US delegation turned up early pulled a mob of miniature Chinese flags outta his briefcase then took some photos of empty desks with China flags n sent em off to Twitter.
China hadn’t been invited and didn’t need to be there as they have only 3 or 4 hundred nuclear warheads (probably less than the occupiers of Palestine) while Russia & US each have thousands.

Nothing that Jacinda & co have done or said of late would indicate that if they win without NZFirst there will even be a change to foreign policy, let alone the austerity nonsense they want to oppress us with domestically.
