For National to win the election, NZ has to lose to the pandemic

The Ghoulish Skull

The only chance National have of winning the election is if the voters turn on Jacinda for a perceived incompetence at the border.

Voters feel they have sacrificed and are grateful, but that gratitude can flick to anger if that sacrifice is squandered.

So that’s all National have, tirelessly trawling for any tiny infringement that they can paint out to be directly Jacinda’s fault.

For National to win, NZ has to lose and to that end they will be hunting for any issue to explode, even with holding information from the MoH so as to pull a political stunt.

National will become a political party of ghouls, lidlessly watching the border for treasons to sell the frightened voters.

National will sell anger to fear this election, thankfully Jacinda’s hope and empathy is the only antidote to that.

Increasingly having independent opinion in a mainstream media environment which mostly echo one another has become more important than ever, so if you value having an independent voice going into this pandemic and 2020 election – please donate here.

  1. I would argue this analysis is over simplistic. Yes the response, of lack of it will be important however this needs to be layered into an overarching approach that factors in:

a). An economic plan that will stimulate growth without a corresponding significant increase in debt
b). Law and order will be a large issue – the Massey shooting will not be a 1-off and gang-related crime plus the Police’s approach will be a trigger point
c). Treaty and Maori issues – there is significant discomfort and recent government positioning isn’t where the middle views this issue
d). Immigration – post Covid what do we want and how do we manage this?

If the hits keep coming regarding border security (which I suspect they will) then this election could possibly come down to a battle of ideas, which would be preferable to the “me too, i’m just a little less shit” approach both parties have been campaigning on over the past 20 years.

I won’t hold my breath and even now, it would take a severe case of idiocy from here for the government to lose the election and an opposition to have some brave and forthright positions of the above issues.

  2. Martyn Our family thinks that when National withheld the evidence about the two women going to Wellington without being tested first was horrific and National have proven that they can’t be trusted any more so they ‘burned their bridges’ to Govern over us.

    • Will the sheep notice. The accusations from NACT get traction as they are reported in headlines by MSM who the right can rely on to fudge the facts.

  3. National are playing/praying on peoples fears and in my view that is wrong it is morally wrong and shows they have no principles but the problem is they don’t have any morals its all about power.

  4. National are playing/praying on peoples fears and in my view that is wrong it is morally wrong and shows they have no principles but the problem is they don’t have any morals its all about power.

    • They have the power with money behind them, Business NZ trolling for them and talking heads on MSM filling the airwaves with crap.
Morals hardly strike fear into the hearts of those scared of loosing their job.

  5. If Todd “Shambles” Muller thinks his relentless negativity is a breath of fresh air from Simon Bridges relentless negativity then I hate to say it Toddy, it’s not.

Willing this disease to take control as National surely are praying for is possibly the most warped strategy I’ve ever seen.

  6. We (NZ) are fucked if National gets back in. If Trump gets back in, in the words of Noam Chomsky we are toast…that’s everyone on this planet. Have a good Tuesday.

  7. New Zealanders has helped fight COVID-19 together and we will do it again but New Zealander who were away couldn’t come home due to borders close are coming home not taking precautions bringing the virus. Because of no cases found and recorded 24 days straight and people coming through the border were being quarantined and isolated from others but no test carried out in the first 3 days of their arrival to confirm test results was a major blunder with lax approach than on the 12th day before the 14 day release from quarantine isolation no test done to confirm test results for COVID 19 viruses. Testing should be done at the border when people get off the plane or ship before immigration and customs clearance. Our Prime Minister with the coalition government and together we will do it again.

  8. I see Nationals mythical homeless man being put up at a quarantine hotel in Auckland has never been found.

Has National resorted to pure bare faced lying as part of it’s dirty politics gig?

    • You’re talking about Michael Woodhouse here. He had ‘reliable’ information over the women heading to Hutt Valley and he has ‘reliable sources’ this week.

One thing that has to be kept in mind is that there are people right through the country who hate Ardern and the Labour Party and think that one party has the God given right to rule. They will feed any snippet of information to any scumbag politician to knit into the most sinister story possible and there is a desperate feral media who would kill for any sensational story of anything to hint at sensation.

If a member of a Government were responsible for a story such as the homeless man in the managed isolation and it was shown to be false, there would be calls for that member to resign.
MPs like Michael Woodhouse would go berserk about it, Nick Smith would be spluttering and frothing at the mouth and Mark Mitchell would be on the highest of high horses. Let’s see how that story pans out.

Of course Labour can lose the election. In our, flaky emotional political environment bullshit and tiny, almost nothing events can be built into something big.

That’s why Ministers can’t afford to stuff up. No MP can afford to say anything dumb. The climate though is such that a Minister doing or saying something which isn’t stuffing up will have efforts made to have it perceived as wrong. An MP not saying something dumb will have some mongrel twisting it.
