Our comment here is now to pay the railway to deliver the freight not long-haul trucks, as truck drivers are very many’ (estimated at 20, 000 NZTA) and now are most ‘carriers of this Covid 19 virus’ that is spreading like wildfire through our communities as we speak.
This is happening while;
• our railway uses far less people to carry the same freight than truck use do, because of the staff needed to move large amounts of freight.
• So to reduce the “community transmission” please and take the truck drivers off the job, as they are spreading the virus far wider than railway workers would do.
I agree that rail would be much better than long-haul trucking. It’s usually much more efficient, saves wear and tear on the roads (at the expense of wear on the rails, but they seem better able to handle it), and also saves on congestion. It’d also potentially save lives through less trucks for idiots to blindly drive into/under.
However, I would be interested to know your evidence that most truckies are carriers of Covid-19, or that it is running rampant through the community (which I also suspect is quite possible, but do like to see evidence of things myself before I believe them).

The Sharetank App from Z is a great way to buy petrol while it’s really cheap. You buy it now using the ShareTank App on your phone and stays in your Virtual Fuel Tank. Then when you are able to drive places again you will have lots of cheap gas at the ready. It finds the cheapest gas for 30kms around you and charges you at that price. At the pump you just fill up and scan the barcode on the App or take your phone to the counter and they will scan it for you.
