It’s the Green Party – too woke to joke

The dour and puritanical woke are not to be joked with. The Greens put out a pretty sad attempt at satire and ended up looking like smug middle class arseholes mocking Simon’s provincial accent.

I think Simon’s position on electric cars is pathetic, however making his accent a joke makes the Greens look classist and snide and seeing as the Greens are the very first to ever micro aggression police anyone else for doing this, it just made them look like hypocrites.

What was more eye rolling than a flat joke was the immediate self censorship by the Greens once the woke made their displeasure known. If you are going to offend, own it and do it purposefully.

It’s like the Green Party are held hostage by the Wellington Twitterati.

The Identity Politics left are too woke to joke and there is no one as humourless as green party activists on social media, but it is funny watching the Greens hoisted by their own wokeness.

  1. While I feel NZ may be laying into the Greens a little too much, this attempt as a joke probably came down as awkwardly as the Avocado toast recipe from the Greens prior to the election.

I like to see a bit more focus on Labour with TPPA, Kiwibuild, more OIA assets being sold overseas, lower paid jobs meaning people have only $7 a meal left after WORKING a 40 hour week, 14,000 more people on Jobseeker in the past year as 250,000 temporary visas and 33,000 new residents are waived through who can now claim free welfare here and go on the state house waiting list if their ‘job’ suddenly disappears….

Today’s scary news is they have put the modern neoliberal David Parker in charge of RMA reform working with the Natz… he did such a great job on TPPA…

Or we could investigate why Phil Goff is happy to waste the billions raised in petrol taxes that has public transport seemingly either sidelined for ‘safety’ and ‘upgrades to bus terminals’ and the holiday highway to the airport being a major priority, so the actual transport part has been descaled, now Phil is thinking ahead to a congestion charge. Maybe that’s for the extra bus or two they plan to produce in 2050 along with the carbon solution?

A congestion charge is really going to help inequality for the poorer workers who can’t afford to live in close suburbs to CBD anymore, whose apartment is leaking and they have to move out to the suburbs without public transport while it is being repaired, or the renters who can’t afford $1500 p/w for the blue greens warm dry villa in Grey Lynn, that has replaced the run down ones that students use to be able to afford before it was illegal to rent a run down property without the middle class stamp of approval on quality… funny enough if you waste $1500 on rent each week you also can’t save for a deposit for a house.

Your wages are probably not going to go up, if you compete against nearly 5000 new workers per week coming into NZ on work permits last year, you have to fight to get into the city with all those new cars on the road joining them and the 634 new permanent residents per week that can now legally claim jobseeker if their ‘job’ suddenly disappears!

  2. But why is Simon’s accent so protected? No one else seems to have the same privilege. Let’s be honest, when he speaks it makes you envy the deaf. Yes he is worse in every other aspect of a human being, but that he can’t be pilloried for offending our ears hardly seems reasonable. The greens look silly apologising for a joke that everybody else in this country makes regularly. Yes they should be better, but when you are dealing with sleepy hobbits, how do you get your message through without stooping a little?

    • Because we should be dealing with the issues not personality politics

Personality politics suggests we’ve run out of intelligent argument and gave to play the man instead of the ball

We dont like it when the Right attack someone personally. In fact we’ve condemned cameron slater and donald trump for doing just that. If we engage in similar tactics how are we any better ??

    • The Green Party isn’t perfect, the way Materia was handled was utter trash (Materia actually has a cool back story that got shit on because the women’s hatred for old white men’s fight) many of The Green Party’s ambitions cant keep up with its vocal factions.

      • “Materia actually has a cool back story”

Unfortunately she got stabbed in the back by some of her family members who had a lingering grudge against her and her partner

        • Well you have to wonder the likelyness of a politician being stabbed in the back by asking the question – do politicians have backs?

The Greens don’t lie. Y’know who else has a superior sense of honour? Need Stark.

Yes I know Ned is a fictional character but immediately you should be aware that that even the nicer niceley Greens can take there ideology way to far.

    • It does mean something though. https://www.dictionary.com/e/slang/woke/
“Woke” comments, seemingly crafted primarily to annoy normal people who don’t give a flying about this stuff, is what “Social Justice Warriors” (aka SJWs) spend all day tweeting. We’re fast approaching peak “First World Problems” when it comes to Green Party Policy.

      • 100% Nitrium

Martyn, can we stop using the term WOKE? Its pointless and utterly meaningless and heaps confusing

I prefer “trendy lefties”. It implies we have excellent tastes in political action

  3. Fuck! The Woke have turned up at Ihumatao! There will be tears before bedtime! And a tantrum, most probably.
