This isn’t the first time Mike has lashed out at Pacific Islanders, but by trying to paint out this aid budget as robbing the poor in NZ to splash cash around for feckless Islanders is ugly, especially because I can’t recall Mike ever articulating any concern for poor people needing access to cheaper health care in his entire media career.
NZ requires an Opposition that will hold the Government to account, what we have however is a Party wilfully happy to manipulate and lie to generate divisive anger in their supporters.
We can’t outspend China, but we can play a far smarter game.
The organisation widely known as WINZ, but in reality Work and income, has been in the media again. There is widespread acknowledgement, even by the Minister, that Work and Income is not operating as it should, causing distress and lack of entitlements for thousands of people, many of whom are living below the poverty line.
Getting tangled up in making it compulsory is missing the opportunity to progress while requiring focus on the structural racism that blights NZ.
