Andrew Little reaffirms Governments moral compass with news of Pike River Mine re-entry

We are all responsible for those miners dying at Pike River Mine.

We elect the politicians, the politicians maintain the regulations that keep us safe.

When Pike River happened, the regulation that was supposed to keep those men safe had  lapsed, the new National Party Government didn’t do anything to update that lapse.

Our Government failed those workers. We elected that Government.

Some say this costs too much. It’s $36m compared to the $27million Key wasted on a flag vanity project, so I have no time for National Party toadies complaining the cost and I also find it jaw dropping hearing National Party supporters claim the money would be better spent on the poor and homeless…

…since when the fuck did Hamish Price care about the homeless?

That mine is a crime scene and by wanting to cement it over, National made this a political football.

We owe those families a debt and this week Andrew Little paid the first downpayment on that obligation.

He and this Government has reaffirmed the Governments moral compass.

NZ was made a better place this week.

  1. Andrew, if your response has any depth, how is it that 400 workers have died in workplace accidents since Pike River?

Looks to me that something is not working correctly.

  2. Andrew Little is leading the way to redress part of what the Pike River families have suffered. He is restoring our country’s humanity – for all of us.

Martyn you understand all the issues, great blog. On the other hand, Andrew’s list of National’s attempts to tidy up law in areas they had let lapse, seems like a whitewash. The list doesn’t appear to cover mine inspectors which was a significant loss to mine operations, contributing to the disaster.
