It was a privilege to go to Penny Bright’s funeral this afternoon, there was a lot of great kōrero.

Penny was a big supporter of Radio Waatea, particularly of Titewhai Harawira and Aunty Vapi Kupenga.

She never ever stopped fighting for justice and supported kaupapa Māori whenever possible.

When I was on RadioLIVE, they barred her regularly from participating however John Tamihere and I always tried to have her on our show.

Her contribution will always be remembered.

No reira e Penny, moe mai, moe mai, moe mai ra.

  1. She was a great larger than life figure who fought back against the Establishment. Watch out St Peter, Ms Bright is on her way, no doubt with some hard questions to ask on how Heaven is being managed!!

    Says it all.

    Scum.

  3. Penny was a friend. She was an orator, giving some stirring speeches at rallies, saying what the crowd needed to be said. She was contentious, like when she supported Russia bombing the Syrian rebels. So I don’t think of her as St Activist, but a brave woman who spoke out against what she opposed.

  4. Dear Penny you have certainly earned your rest although I bet you would rather still be here campaigning as hard as ever. Those people who opposed you are the scared and timid types who prefer to believe what they want to believe belched out by an establishment that demands conformity from their weak adherents who were prepared to sell their souls for a couple of pieces of silver – but not you. Fly free you wonderful angel.
