So the NZ State hired dirty corporate spies for big oil???

The enormity of what we have just found out about the NZ state hiring dirty corporate spies for big oil is extraordinary…

Fresh links between the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and the controversial private investigation company accused of spying have been revealed by 1 NEWS

Documents obtained under the Official Information Act show a close relationship between Thompson and Clark and MBIE going back five years.

“When you read these emails, it’s amazing how friendly it all is. ‘Let’s go for a beer. Let’s go for a coffee.’ There’s discussion of skiing together,” Mr Norman said.

In 2015, Thompson and Clark began supplying MBIE with weekly intelligence reports it was pulling together for the oil and gas industry on protest groups.

Thompson and Clark then started using MBIE to drum up more work with foreign oil and mining companies.

“Since when is it the government’s job to help a spy agency like Thompson and Clark to get new contracts with mining companies?” Mr Norman said.

In the three months to February this year, MBIE admits handling more than 2000 documents and emails relating to Thompson and Clark.

Despite this, MBIE denies having a contractual relationship with Thompson and Clark since 2013.

…why the Christ is the NZ Government not only bring corporate spies as dirty as Thompson and Clark, but then trying to get Big Oil and mining companies to continue funding Thompson and Clark?

This would all be absurd if the then Minister, Simon Bridges, hadn’t also suggested laws to attack activists…

A proposal targeting anti-mining protesters with harsh new laws, by the relatively new Minister for Energy and Resources, Simon Bridges, has been attacked by members of the opposition and a group of high-profile civil rights activists.

Mr Bridges has proposed new offences, under the Crown Minerals Act, which attract maximum fines up to $50,000 for an individual, 12 months’ jail or $100,000 for a body corporate, for damaging or interfering with mining structures, vessels or their activities – but primarily targeting offences , on the high seas, beyond New Zealand’s 12-mile territorial limit.

Mr Bridges defended his seemingly anti-protester stance, also denying oil company interests had lobbied him for the change.

…that last claim by Simon that he hadn’t been lobbied for a change turned out to be a lie because they did meet and he changed the law. Russel Norman makes the point…

…so let’s get this straight.

MBIE hires corporate spies Thompson and Clark (who have a dirty history in NZ), to spy on activists and then MBIE encourages big oil companies to hire Thompson and Clark to spy on Greenpeace while advising the Minister Simon Bridges who passes new anti-activist laws while Greenpeace get arrested and punished under new laws!!!

How is this a functioning democracy?

When we face a catastrophic climate change future, who are the NZ Government working for? NZers or big oil?

These new papers suggest it is big oil who Wellington works for.

  1. See, why isn’t this the lead story on RNZ, the MSM and certain political blogs, instead of endless babble about Trump and The Russians??

The powers that be really need to send Putin and Trump a large bunch of flowers for being such a nice distraction to take over the Political headlines now that the whole isis/terrorist thing has worn out its welcome

    • RNZ has two sides. The news is full of US sourced pro war propaganda and out right lies about world situations.

Evidence is denied air time across a broad spectrum of building falling down with planes miraculously causing that even when a building was not touched, to SAS “construction team” Kiwi insurgents somehow murdering locals.

We are still hearing rewritten history of WWI and WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Lebanon, Syria and a host of struggling nations especially in the Americas; being demonised by corporate USA/UK revisionists.

The other side of RNZ is the valiant efforts by some front people to judiciously open out a very different discussion. Fewer hear that side.

NZ is a UK colony but most who escaped “mother England” to NZ wanted away from the ruling power based corruption of wealth extraction and social control for ruling elite.

To allow our independence or thought be eroded with this drip drip of absolute propaganda shit, is a massive concern with deadly consequences for Kiwis and other victims.

      So who rules RNZ.

      • I’ve been blocked from emailing them. I was especially critical of their constant parroting of BBC bullshit re Syria in particular.

Tragic to now see Jacinda falling in line and talking about possibly more actions against Russia over this farcical and dangerous claim by the UK re poisoning without a shred of actual evidence. Makes her time as a senior policy analyst under Blair take on a bit more significance?

At least Helen Clark had the moral fortitude to say no to the USA re Iraq in 2003 and that was a less obvious piece of bullshit than this case.
Lange and the nuclear free movement was another special time.

        Shocking from Ardern, utterly shocking.

        • @ Kaya

Your man the guy with the Snorkel – Oil Seeker Simon Bridges has lied.

We are so used to your lot lying, we offer you sympathy.

It’s a real pity your leaders are so cheap and nasty Kaya. But tha’s National, isn’t it.

  2. al these wunderkinds with there sellphones, laptops, too many comix and computer games playing cops and robbers. complete infantilisation of the state.

  3. I have for many years now been no longer under any illusion, that this is a functioning ‘democracy’.

Sadly so many do not see it, they are brainwashed to the extreme, and too busy with their own selfish and short sighted agendas, the rest do not care, it seems, as long as enough morsels drop onto their plates.

It is time to clean the stables, time for this government to take REAL action and clean out the rot.

    • There is no chance of this government taking REAL action. Ardern just rolled over like the poodle she is to support the UK and their lunatic assertions re the false flag chemical attack in the UK. She is talking about taking further actions against Russia and has stopped any work on a free trade deal with them.
There is nobody to clean out the rot.

  4. It is all pretty filthy but not really surprising. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Labour had used spies as well on their watch.

There are a number of laws that the Labour government should have reversed as soon as they got into government one is
‘primarily targeting offences, on the high seas, beyond New Zealand’s 12-mile territorial limit’
which they didn’t agree with AT THE TIME. We should have had a list of these prior to the election to demand that they do this if they became the government.

I see Labour have already reduced the number of children they will get out of poverty because Treasury made a stuff up in the numbers. And this all by 2021 – rather a long way off methinks!

  5. Oh Kaya

When did your friend Jacinda “lay over like a poodle” ?

You must have felt awful you poor chap. Did you get Simon to rub your tummy and make you feel better? He is your Leader. A Liar.

You are well and truly in the right party Kaya. Suits you down the dirt.

  6. Doesn’t matter who’s in or who’s out. Our Government follows the policies handed out by the Bilderberg. The Bilderberg follows the instructions of the Jesuits. We bow to QEll first then to the Pope.
Government/corporate life doesn’t get any more simple than that.
Wake up sheeple. We were born slaves. It’s not rocket science.
Better still sheeple stay asleep and believe that your government loves you and that we really do have “new” clouds and that our weather is just “mother nature” and that there is no such thing as United Nations and Agenda 21 and that Day Care really does care.

  7. Corporate in bed with Government ( or is it vice versa)? Who would’ve thought. Straighten up and fly (up) right Jacinda.
