Why Steven Joyce’s $11b budget hole is a climate deniers spin attack straight out of Crosby Textor playbook

2011 and 2014 was dirty politics using Cameron Slater and David Farrar as the delivery vehicles, 2017 it’s dirty politics via the power of incumbency.

National are fighting this election by lying about Labour & playing to the pettiest bigotries of their rump vote – bootcamps for delinquents, benefit cuts for druggie beneficiaries & human rights erosion‬ for gang members.

Their latest lie to the electorate is that Labour’s budget has an $11billion hole in it.

The truth is that not one person in the entire country other than Bill English agree with him.

It is obvious that the notorious right wing hate merchant spin doctors Crosby Textor  have once again be employed by National because this $11billion budget lie is pure climate denialism 101.

Big polluters and the Political Right know that human beings aren’t stupid and at some point will start to notice extreme and catastrophic climate change, what they know they need to do to stop people from demanding fundamental change, which could damage their profit margins, is inject some doubt.

This is a strategy that big tobacco used when trying to pretend cigarettes didn’t cause cancer, inject some doubt and allow people to believe that it’s an open question and it robs them of the desire for change.

That’s what Joyce is trying with this $11billion budget hole. National need to spook middle class voters into believing that Jacinda and Labour can’t actually manage the economy. Sure NZ voters know poverty is a problem, inequality is a problem, housing affordability is a problem, mental health services are a problem, skyrocketing homelessness and suicide is a problem – but if National can just sow a tiny seed of doubt  that maybe Labour will damage the economy and hurt their illusion of wealth from property speculation, they can convince those middle class voters to stay with National.

It’s politics of deception and falsehoods, but that’s all National have now as the true impact of their cutting money from public services to create tax cuts starts becoming impossible to ignore.

The real question is how easily led are NZers?

  1. Love this quote…

“Any election involving Crosby Textor will include dead cats, and we’ve just been thrown one”.

The reason Crosby Textor are involved, is because there is no intelligent strategy from National, which in turn, renders Joyce as absolutely useless.

  2. ‘Dirty Politics’ ;

Now this coercion and lies by Steven Joyce as National Party’s Minister for Electoral strategy must be challenged in court to finally kill off dirty politics, why?

Firstly if TOP leader can do a claim to court now taking place today for his party rights to fair broadcast time without interference and now after the radio NZ Finance Ministers debate this morning between Labour’s Grant Robertson & steven Joyce where Grant Robertson made clear cut claims that Joyce made lies and false words mis-representing the truth Labour must follow this to the Court to finish National;s lies and deceptive practices national are using as dirty politics again, as voter’s need an assurance of the truth here.

This Legal claim may rid dirty politics in NZ, and now we have the lightening rod to allow labour to make claims to be heard in court as to a campaign illegally perpetrated by National to falsify and undermine our whole electoral system and our democracy by not allowing the fair free election devoid of false lies and deception for real this time!!!!!!

TV one Coleman Brunton poll due at 6 pm on TV One so if Labour stalls it is because of the lies that Steven Joyce told about the $11 billion hole.

Labour should take a court case about lack of ‘real debate policy’ rights given to all opposition parties leading up to this election because if their policies were made clear months before this election most of the lies and misrepresentations/confusions left for the voter will have been worked through leaving a seamless simple choice election for all voters by now.

This case would be argued on ‘the public good interest’ case.

    • Good point by a blogger ‘Keith’ over at The Standard could be ‘option 2’ from my choice of a legal court injunction of National Party strategy lies and deceit.

Nationals strategy of throwing as much horse shit at Labour with the knowledge some will stick has to be countered.

I would love to see Jacinda give an impromptu press release as soon as possible not only highlighting Joyce’s lies but pledging to end Dirty Politics once and for all with her government at least. Turn it back on National.

Highlight the 11 billion dollar lie.
Highlight the smear campaign against Winston the previous week.
Highlight the Dirty Politics smear machine that operates or operated directly out of the PM’s office since 2008.
Highlight that this is all the National Party have left and why.
Pledge that misinformation, dishonesty and immoral behaviour that Stephen Joyce so ably demonstrates will end with her.
Pledge that misuse of privileged information given to ministers will end, vis a vis Paula Bennett etc.
Draw a very bold line between what her government will bring and what the current government is.
Whatever happens do not take Nationals misinformation strategy with a stiff upper lip anymore! Do something now.

    • Some say 60% of voters never change there vote habits sticking to Labour or National and that’s tribalism.

Another 20% of voters causally looking for a fling.

      About 4% are undecided

And 6% of voters look for the perfect solutions.

I say it’s all BS because parliament is full of stupid as the last 100 years or more of New Zealand’s democratic experimental history shows.

Personally I think Mark Twain said it when describing a miner – “A miner is a lier standing next to a hole” – and you can generalise that across all sectors, markets, and industries.

And that’s why it’s soo soo important to be to give your crew shit and crush corruption.

    • Interesting.

You can tell the Nats are panicking when they make up lies o attack their opponents. They’ve done it in the paso their critics like Jon Stevenson and Nicky hager, so not surprising they tried it on with labour. Fortunately this time the media were awake this ploy. Question is, if john key had made the same bs comment, would the media have scrutinised it as closely? I shudder at the thought……

  3. Considering how Tracey Watkins still feels life stopped before the arrival of John Key and has stopped again since his infamous resignation last night’s CHCH Press debate would have been a lot harder on Jacinda but she would have still performed well on the night.

As it was Jacinda provided the only excitement and you could see the disappointment on the moderators face as the Jacindanator ripped English apart as the CHCH Press has never been a supporter of the Labour party.

No repeat of the infamous ” show me the money ” which was repeated ad nauseam in 2014 yet ” tell us the truth john ” would have been more to the point.

English and his performance’s show how he thought he could just cruise all the way to the election and what worked the three times would work for them again , his arrogance is plain for everyone to see and how he views his opponents with contempt.

  4. Well, well, well. What do we have here? A ‘ three way’ jonky sandwich?
Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber flanking a deviant little runt.
There goes my sexy times until I can drink/drug away the image above from my brain-thing.
