All along the Thames coast toilets have been removed over the last 20 years. I’m sure it’s the same everywhere and is a simple ploy to force campers into expensive camping grounds. The councils and the government deserve every piece of shit they get. They have indeed asked for it.
In a similarly syndical ploy I am quite sure the national health service is being deliberately run down to force everyone into private health care and health insurance.
I hope Jacinda can do differently , but that trend has been going on for a long time and I doubt the Labour hierarchy has any significantly different philosophy.

Very confusing signals from National.
They allow people from countries that drive on the right hand side of the road to freely drive cars and camper vans on NZ roads without any restrictions or tests, but then lay the smackdown on tourists for allegedly spending a penny in the wilds.

Totally agree. I bought a VW Kombi Camper in England 1977, brought it here in 1981. I have so often slept in it, but in 40 years I have NEVER soiled the environment as tourists do, it seems. I often sleep in the van outside a friend’s place after a wine-tasting…

But you are right, DJS. It is part of a deeper evil. National wants entrepreneurs as they like to call them profit-gouge out of Health.
Health is a social good. The state therefore has full duty – not profit-gougers.
Sorry to rain on the parade but I truly doubt that half of New Zealanders will not be paying more than $8 to go to the doctor. My doctor’s fees are $48 a time, my 4 adult children pay the same as I do or thereabouts they all have 2 kids (yes there children are free). None of them have community cards but I wouldn’t say any of them were well off either. So I find that hard to believe. GP visits should be free for anyone on a benefit of any sort and for those trying to live on the minimum wage with families etc., and all students at any level I don’t know how lots of people can afford to go to the doctor.
Shame that Ardern has ruled out any increase in taxes. Why after all when the Nats got in they reduced tax on the wealthy and this should go back up NOW. The top tax rate should be way higher. And half of the rich list who pay tax on LESS than $70,000 a year should be investigated!
From people I have spoken with, it says, policy is not that much that matters now. It is all too much of a lolly scramble, and nobody really expects any of the parties to deliver what they are on about. They rather seem excited about personalities, such as a young, inspirational, positive, inclusive, attractive and also articulate woman leading Labour now.
That seems to matter more than any detail of policy, which few will expect to be put into law.
We are now where America has been for years, welcome to the future, dear Kiwis.

Good to see Labour upping their game and outplaying National in this regard.
Now we need to see them outplay National on social housing. National are offering to build 2000 state homes compared to Labour’s 1000.
Not only do labour need to up their game because National is offering more (which Labour should find embarrassing) it may also cost them votes and may be problematic in the up and coming leaders debate.
On a side note,10,000 homes compared to a 1000 state homes indicates to voters where their values sit. As a comparison, Hone is offering to build 10,000 state homes.
Additionally, and more importantly, Labour need to up their game in this area because what they’re offering is vastly insufficient. As shown by the Salvation Army Report.
Folks don’t understand what slow growth is. Got to take it all. Ok so the Aucks unitary plan pretty much says spread out but not up. That’s dwarfism not slow growth and Arnold approves.

McFlock’s argument was only a fool would believe National, implying National offering more isn’t a problem.
Nevertheless, as housing is a hot topic, National will use their commitment to offer more (regardless who believes it) to show up Ardern (highlighting Labour’s insufficient offering) in the up and coming leaders debate.
Thus, despite whether or not voters believe National, the coverage will expose Labour’s weakness in this area to a wider audience. Leaving them questioning (there’s currently around 5000 on the housing waiting list) Labour’s credibility in addressing this problem. Which, of course, may negatively impact their support.
And if that isn’t enough incentive for Labour to up their game in this area, they need only consider how their failure to commit to more will prolong homeless and its related ills.
At a 1000 a year, Labour will face another election before they house the 5000 currently waiting.
If National was so great Jacinda wouldn’t have a chance. And that’s dangerous for the public because in a democracy the public want a competition between two competent parties. So if parliament is full of duds then focus on fundamentals, how to leave the State in safe hands is essential.
