Time the State apologised for child abuse – Labour Party

It’s time the Government listened to the growing chorus of leading opinion calling for an apology and an independent inquiry into historical abuse claims of children in state care, says Labour’s Justice spokesperson Jacinda Ardern.

“I welcome today’s call from prominent New Zealanders spearheaded by the Human Rights Commission.

“Labour has long committed to issuing a public apology when we are in government. We must acknowledge publically the mistreatment of so many young children in state care. There should be an independent inquiry; their voices need to be heard.

“National’s continuing failure to act on Judge Henwood’s recommendations is a dark stain on its record in government.

“Bill English as a new Prime Minister has the opportunity to show that his Government does really care about the well-being of all those who have been abused and he should act now,” says Jacinda Ardern.

  1. YES AND BILL English SHOULD ALSO APPOLOGISE TO THE FAMILIES WITH THOSE CHILDEN HE ABUSED WHEN HE PRAISED GOVERNMENT FOR REMOVING THEM OFF THE DOLE AND PUSHED THEM OUT OF THEIR HOMES TO LIVE IN CARS OR TENTS.

HE IS ALSO AN ABUSER IF HE ALLOWS THIS TO CONTINUE THIS YEAR GOING INTO ANOTHER WINTER.

    • +100, thats blinglish trying to deny his theory of labour isn’t Marx theory of labour.

That workers own there own labour is Marx theory of labour. What a farce

    • Not only families but young people who have disabilities that winz refuse to put on the invalids benefit because they think they are capable of working when their ( persons doctor) quite clearly thinks the opposite. Also young people being unable to get public hospital care and having to raise money to go private even when they are getting no benefit or earning wages or if they are working the wages are so pitiful they don’t even cover their meds let alone rent or food. Then there are those young people on meds that are not subsidised by pharmac because of the 1.8 billion underfunded health system.
